Claims
- 1. An agricultural implement comprising a frame and a plurality of soil working members journalled in a hollow transverse frame portion of said frame, said soil working members being rotatably mounted on corresponding upwardly extending shafts and each shaft being supported by said frame portion through at least one bearing connection, driving means engaging said soil working members and said driving means comprising intermeshed pinion gears housed within said frame portion, said bearing connection including a bearing enclosed in a protective housing and said housing being secured in an opening of an upperwall of said frame portion, said housing comprising two separable portions that are connectable to one another and eveloping the bearing and secure same to said upper wall, said portions being positioned on and secured to opposite sides of said upper wall and the outer circumferential surface of said bearing being surrounded and and enclosed by at least one of said housing portions, at least one of said portions having an annular rim that fits within said opening said portions together enclosing and securing said bearing in place.
- 2. An implement as claimed in claim 1, wherein said housing is secured to said frame portion by bolts and said bolts are interconnected by a metallic ring.
- 3. An implement as claimed in claim 1, wherein said housing has an upper portion that is comprised of deformable sheet material.
- 4. An implement as claimed in claim 1, wherein the center of the sheet material has an upwardly extending projection that receives a free upper end of said shaft with a minimum of clearance.
- 5. An implement as claimed in claim 1, wherein said housing is secured to the frame portion by bolts and said bolts are fastened to a metallic ring arranged in coaxially surrounding relationship with a respective shaft.
- 6. An implement as claimed in claim 5, wherein said ring is U-shaped in cross-section and the bolts are secured to the upper limb of the ring, the lower limb of the ring being adjacent a gear and a hub of said gear.
- 7. An implement as claimed in claim 1, wherein said shaft is rotatably supported by a second bearing that is located below and in spaced relationship from the first mentioned bearing, said second bearing being carried by a lower wall of said frame portion.
- 8. An implement as claimed in claim 1, wherein each portion of said housing engages said upper wall and said lower portion is a soft cast material having rotary bearing properties.
