Claims
- 1. A roller assembly, said assembly comprising,
an exterior portion adapted to support a conveyor element; and a bearing sub-assembly positioned within the exterior portion about a central axis thereof, said sub-assembly comprising;
at least one bearing; at least one sealing element positioned outboard of the bearing, said sealing element having an elastomeric sealing portion; and at least one standoff also positioned outboard of the bearing, wherein the standoff further comprises a groove positioned on an outer surface thereof, said groove being adapted to receive the elastomeric sealing portion therein.
- 2. The roller assembly of claim 1, wherein there are two bearings.
- 3. The roller assembly of claim 2, wherein the bearings are held in place by a snap ring.
- 4. The roller assembly of claim 2, wherein there are two sealing elements, each positioned outboard of the bearings.
- 5. The roller assembly of claim 4, wherein there are two standoffs, each positioned outboard of the bearings.
- 6. The roller assembly of claim 1, wherein the standoff has an inclined surface on an inboard side thereof, said inclined surface adapted for installing the elastomeric sealing portion gradually without damage thereto.
- 7. The roller assembly of claim 1, wherein the exterior portion has outer surfaces such that no surface thereof is parallel to the central axis of the assembly.
- 8. The roller assembly of claim 1, wherein the diameter of the standoff is about the same as the diameter of the elastomeric sealing portion.
- 9. The roller assembly of claim 1, wherein the standoffs have surfaces outboard of the groove, wherein said surfaces are tapered downward as viewed from above the assembly.
- 10. The roller assembly of claim 6, wherein the elastomeric sealing portions are oriented to face outboard at about 45 degrees with respect to the axis of the assembly.
- 11. The roller assembly of claim 1, wherein the central axis of the exterior portion comprises a tapered opening, such that the opening is tapered wider as the opening approaches exterior surfaces of the roller.
- 12. The roller assembly of claim 11, wherein the tapered opening is large enough to accept a snap ring therein without compression of the snap ring.
- 13. The roller assembly of claim 1, wherein the horizontal length of the standoffs may be chosen so as to offset the exterior portion of the roller assembly a predetermined distance with respect to the conveyor element.
- 14. A roller assembly for use in agricultural machinery, said assembly comprising,
an exterior portion adapted to support a conveyor element; and a bearing sub-assembly positioned within the exterior portion about a central axis, said sub-assembly comprising;
two bearings; two sealing elements, each having elastomeric sealing portions positioned outboard of the bearings; and two standoffs, each positioned outboard of the bearings, wherein the diameter of the standoffs are about the same as the diameter of the elastomeric sealing portions and wherein the standoffs further comprise a groove positioned on an outer surface thereof, said grooves being adapted to receive the elastomeric sealing portions therein.
- 15. The roller assembly of claim 14, wherein the standoffs each have an inclined surface on inboard sides thereof, said inclined surfaces adapted for installing the elastomeric sealing portions gradually without damage thereto.
- 16. The roller assembly of claim 14, wherein the exterior portion has outer surfaces such that no surface thereof is parallel to the central axis of the assembly.
- 17. The roller assembly of claim 14, wherein the horizontal length of the standoffs may be chosen so as to offset the exterior portion of the roller assembly a predetermined distance with respect to the conveyor element.
- 18. The roller assembly of claim 15, wherein the elastomeric sealing portions are oriented to face outboard at about 45 degrees with respect to the axis of the assembly.
- 19. A roller assembly for use in agricultural machinery, said assembly comprising,
an exterior portion adapted to support a conveyor element, wherein the exterior portion has outer surfaces such that no surface thereof is parallel to the central axis of the assembly; and a bearing sub-assembly positioned within the exterior portion about a central axis, said sub-assembly comprising;
two bearings; two sealing elements, each having elastomeric sealing portions positioned outboard of the bearings; and two standoffs, each positioned outboard of the bearings, wherein the standoffs each have an inclined surface on inboard sides thereof, said inclined surfaces adapted for installing the elastomeric sealing portions gradually without damage thereto, wherein the diameter of the standoffs are about the same as the diameter of the elastomeric sealing portions and wherein the standoffs further comprise a groove positioned on an outer surface thereof, said grooves being adapted to receive the elastomeric sealing portions therein.
- 20. The roller assembly of claim 19, wherein the horizontal length of the standoffs may be chosen so as to offset the exterior portion of the roller assembly a predetermined distance with respect to the conveyor element.
- 21. The roller assembly of claim 19, wherein the elastomeric sealing portions are oriented to face outboard at about 45 degrees with respect to the axis of the assembly.
