Claims
- 1. An air intake system for an internal combustion engine, the system comprising:
- a housing having an air inlet, an air outlet, and an air conduiting path therebetween, the air conduiting path including an air filter receiving area and means for changing air flow direction and velocity at least four times each along the path; and
- an air filter located in the air filter receiving area, wherein the air filter includes filter element means, a seal, and a screen, the air filter having a first section with a portion of the screen located adjacent the filter element means, and a second section adjacent the first section having a portion of the screen but not the filter element means, the seal being connected to a perimeter of the screen.
- 2. A system as in claim 1 wherein the means for changing air flow velocity includes four air flow apertures in walls of the housing with relatively larger cross-sectional areas located between the air flow apertures.
- 3. A system as in claim 1 wherein a portion of the seal extends between the first and second sections and, forms a seal between two walls of two housing members of the housing.
- 4. An air intake system for an internal combustion engine, the system comprising:
- a housing;
- an air filter located in the housing; and
- means for controlling harmonic waves comprising an air flow path through the housing with at least four directional changes along the path and at least four velocity changes caused by passage of air through narrowed passages along the path, the directional changes and velocity changes combining with walls of the housing and the air filter to control the harmonic waves from the engine to a substantially non-audible, non-influencing frequency, wherein the means for controlling directs the air flow path through the air filter twice in different directions.
- 5. A system as in claim 4 wherein the air filter includes filter element means, a seal, and a screen.
- 6. A system as in claim 5 wherein the air filter has a first section with a portion of the screen located adjacent the filter element means, and a second section adjacent the first section having a portion of the screen but not the filter element means, the seal being connected to a perimeter of the screen.
- 7. A system as in claim 6 wherein a portion of the seal extends between the first and second sections and, forms a seal between two walls of two housing members of the housing.
