Claims
- 1. A fluid recirculating cleaning device, comprising:
an exhaust port defining an exhaust port longitudinal axis, said exhaust port having an exhaust end and a fluid source end, said exhaust port exhaust end defining a first cross-sectional area; a suction port defining a suction port longitudinal axis, said suction port having a fluid entrance end and a fluid exit end, said suction port fluid entrance end defining a second cross-sectional area that is greater than said first cross-sectional area, said suction port defining a second outer surface that extends from said entrance end toward said fluid exit end; a vacuum blower motor for creating fluid flow away from said vacuum motor and toward said exhaust port exhaust end, said vacuum blower sucking fluid in through said suction port fluid entrance end; wherein said exhaust port exhaust end is recessed from said suction port fluid entrance end, and wherein said exhaust port and said suction port are located with respect to one another so that fluid flow from said exhaust port will be effectively drawn into said suction port.
- 2. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, wherein said exhaust port longitudinal axis and said suction port longitudinal axis are each angled with respect to a bisecting axis.
- 3. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, wherein said exhaust port longitudinal axis and said suction port longitudinal axis are separated by an angle of approximately 25 degrees.
- 4. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, wherein fluid from said exhaust port exhaust end is discharged toward and impinges upon said second outer surface.
- 5. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, wherein said second cross-sectional area is approximately four times greater than said first cross-sectional area.
- 6. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 5, wherein said exhaust port longitudinal axis is generally parallel to said suction port longitudinal axis.
- 7. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, wherein said second cross-sectional area is generally rectangular.
- 8. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 7, wherein said first cross-sectional area is generally rectangular.
- 9. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, wherein said exhaust port and said suction port are dimensioned and configured so that the fluid flow out of the exhaust port creates a low pressure zone immediately in front of said suction port fluid entrance end.
- 10. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 9, wherein said exhaust port and said suction port are dimensioned and configured so that the suction power in the suction port is at least two times what it would be when the exhaust and suction ports are separated.
- 11. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, wherein said exhaust port longitudinal axis is angled with respect to a vertical axis that generally bisects said exhaust port longitudinal axis and said suction port longitudinal axis.
- 12. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, wherein said exhaust port defines a first generally rectangular cross-sectional area at said exhaust end.
- 13. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 12, wherein said exhaust port defines a second generally rectangular cross-sectional area proximate said fluid source end, wherein said second generally rectangular cross-sectional area is defined at a distance of at least five times the width of the exhaust port exhaust end width from said exhaust end.
- 14. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 13, wherein the width of said exhaust port exhaust end is approximately 0.25 inches, and wherein said second generally rectangular cross-sectional area is equal to said first generally rectangular cross-sectional area.
- 15. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, wherein said second cross-sectional area is at least four times greater than said first cross-sectional area, but less than six times greater than said first cross-sectional area.
- 16. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, including at least one baffle disposed within said exhaust port proximate said exhaust port exhaust end.
- 17. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 1, including two baffles disposed within said exhaust port.
- 18. An air-recirculating surface cleaning device, comprising:
an exhaust port, said exhaust port defining an exhaust port longitudinal axis that is angled with respect to a vertical axis when said air-recirculating surface cleaning device is oriented horizontally, said exhaust port having an exhaust end and an air source end, said exhaust port exhaust end defining a first generally rectangular cross-sectional area, said exhaust port defining a first outer surface that extends from said exhaust end toward said air source end; a suction port, said suction port defining a suction port longitudinal axis that is angled with respect to a vertical axis when said air-recirculating surface cleaning device is oriented horizontally, said suction port having an air entrance end and an air exit end, said suction port air entrance end defining a second cross-sectional area that is greater than said first cross-sectional area, said suction port defining a second outer surface that extends from said entrance end toward said air exit end; a vacuum blower motor for creating air flow away from said vacuum blower past said exhaust port air source end and toward said exhaust port exhaust end, said vacuum blower sucking air in through said suction port air entrance; wherein said exhaust port longitudinal axis and said suction port longitudinal axis are non-parallel with respect to each other and each defines an angle of at least ten degrees with respect to said vertical axis, and wherein air from said exhaust port exhaust end impinges upon said second outer surface.
- 19. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 18, wherein said suction port second outer surface includes an inner panel disposed adjacent said exhaust port exhaust end and an outer panel disposed opposite said exhaust port.
- 20. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 19, wherein said suction port inner panel and said suction port outer panel are generally parallel.
- 21. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 19, wherein said suction port inner panel and said suction port outer panel are generally parallel, and wherein said suction port longitudinal axis is generally parallel to said suction port inner panel and said suction port outer panel.
- 22. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 19, wherein said exhaust port first outer surface includes an inner panel disposed adjacent to said suction port inner panel and an outer panel disposed opposite said suction port inner panel.
- 23. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 22, wherein a first portion of said exhaust port inner panel forms a portion of said exhaust port exhaust end and wherein said first portion is in contact with said suction port inner panel.
- 24. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 22, wherein said exhaust port inner panel and said exhaust port outer panel are generally parallel, and wherein said exhaust port longitudinal axis is generally parallel to said exhaust port inner panel and said exhaust port outer panel.
- 25. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 22, including at least one baffle disposed on at least one of said exhaust port inner panel and said exhaust port outer panel.
- 26. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 22, including a first baffle disposed on said exhaust port inner panel and a second baffle disposed on said exhaust port outer panel.
- 27. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 26, wherein said second baffle is disposed closer to said air source end of said exhaust port than said first baffle.
- 28. The air-recirculating surface cleaning device as in claim 22, including a rotatable paddle wheel disposed for rotation about an axis adjacent said exhaust port outer panel.
- 29. A fluid recirculating cleaning device, said fluid recirculating cleaning device comprising:
an exhaust outlet having an exhaust end and a fluid source end, said exhaust outlet exhaust end defining a first cross- sectional area at said exhaust end; a suction port having a fluid entrance end and a fluid exit end, said suction outlet fluid entrance end defining a second cross-sectional area at said fluid entrance end that is greater than said first cross-sectional area; and a filter disposed between said suction outlet fluid exit end and said exhaust outlet fluid source end for removing debris from said fluid as said fluid moves from said suction outlet toward said exhaust outlet, wherein one of said suction outlet and said exhaust outlet is disposed radially within the other of said suction outlet and said exhaust outlet, wherein said suction outlet fluid entrance end and said exhaust outlet exhaust end are correspondingly shaped, and wherein said exhaust outlet and said suction outlet are located with respect to one another so that fluid flow from said exhaust outlet will be effectively drawn into said suction outlet.
- 30. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 29, wherein fluid is sucked into said suction outlet in a first direction, and wherein said exhaust outlet is disposed radially within said suction outlet and wherein said exhaust outlet exhausts fluid in a second direction that is generally parallel to and opposite from said first direction.
- 31. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 29, wherein said suction outlet is disposed radially within said exhaust outlet and said suction outlet sucks air into said suction outlet fluid entrance end in a first direction, and wherein said exhaust outlet exhausts fluid in a second direction that is angled with respect to said first direction.
- 32. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 29, wherein said suction outlet and said exhaust outlet are dimensioned and configured so that the fluid flow out of the exhaust outlet creates a low pressure zone immediately in front of said suction outlet fluid entrance end to significantly increase the overall suction power of the fluid recirculating cleaning device.
- 33. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 29, said suction outlet including an inner panel and an outer panel, said exhaust outlet including an inner panel and an outer panel, wherein a first distance measured in a direction perpendicular from said exhaust outlet outer panel to said exhaust outlet inner panel is greater than a second distance measured in a direction perpendicular from said suction outlet outer panel to said suction outlet inner panel.
- 34. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 33, wherein said first distance is approximately four times as great as said second distance.
- 35. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 33, wherein said suction outlet is disposed radially within said exhaust outlet.
- 36. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 29, wherein said fluid recirculating cleaning device is a hand- held device that includes a handle for orienting said suction outlet fluid entrance end to clean above and below a user's head.
- 37. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 29, wherein said suction outlet defines a generally circular shape at said fluid entrance end.
- 38. The fluid recirculating cleaning device as in claim 33, wherein an outer surface of said suction outlet outer panel at least partially defines said exhaust outlet inner panel, and wherein said suction outlet outer panel and said exhaust outlet inner panel are parallel with respect to each other.
- 39. An air recirculating cleaning device, comprising:
an exhaust port having an exhaust end and a fluid source end, said exhaust port exhaust end defining a first cross- sectional area at said exhaust end; a suction port having a fluid entrance end and a fluid exit end, said suction port fluid entrance end defining a second cross-sectional area at said fluid entrance end that is greater than said first cross-sectional area; and a vacuum blower motor for creating air flow away from said vacuum blower toward said exhaust end, said vacuum blower sucking air in through said suction port air entrance; wherein said suction port fluid entrance end and said exhaust port exhaust end are correspondingly shaped, and wherein said exhaust port and said suction port are located with respect to one another so that fluid flow from said exhaust port will be effectively drawn into said suction port.
- 40. The air recirculating cleaning device as in claim 39, said exhaust port including a central panel disposed between a right side panel and a left side panel, said suction port including at least one outer panel and at least one inner panel, wherein said exhaust port defines a first distance between said central panel and said right side panel, and wherein said suction port defines a second distance between said at least one outer panel and said at least one inner panel that is greater than said first distance.
- 41. The air recirculating cleaning device as in claim 40, wherein said first distance is approximately one-half said second distance.
- 42. The air recirculating cleaning device as in claim 40, wherein said first distance is approximately one-quarter of an inch.
- 43. The air recirculating cleaning device as in claim 40, wherein at least a portion of said central panel extends further toward the surface to be cleaned than said left side panel and said right side panel.
- 44. The air recirculating cleaning device as in claim 39, said exhaust port including a left side central panel and a right side central panel and a right side outer panel and a left side outer panel, said suction port including at least one outer panel and at least one inner panel, wherein said exhaust port left side central panel and said right side central panel are separated by a distance of at least one inch, wherein a forward end of at least one of said left side central panel and said right side central panel extends past a forward end of said exhaust port right side outer panel and said exhaust port left side outer panel.
- 45. The air recirculating cleaning device as in claim 44, including a roller brush disposed for rotation about an axis between said left side central panel and said right side central panel.
- 46. The air recirculating cleaning device as in claim 39, said suction port including a first suction port and a second suction port, said cleaning device including at least one movable valve disposed in at least one of said first suction port and said second suction port and configured to permit said valve to at least partially block flow between at least one of said first suction port and said second suction port and said vacuum blower motor.
- 47. The air recirculating cleaning device as in claim 46, said exhaust port including a first exhaust port and a second exhaust port, said cleaning device including a movable valve disposed in said exhaust port and configured to at least partially block flow between said vacuum blower motor and at least one of said first exhaust port and said second exhaust port.
