- 3. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said base further comprises a mounting means, a collection trough and a drain tube, all being integrally part of said base.
- 4. An air-treating apparatus comprising a housing including a base and a cover; evaporator means mounted in said housing; and water distribution means disposed above said evaporator means for providing a substantially uniformly distributed flow of water to said evaporator means regardless of the flow rate of water; wherein said cover includes a pair of holes and a pair of inserts selectively attachable to said base, each of said inserts substantially disposed in one of said holes in said cover when said inserts are attached to said base; and wherein said water distribution means includes a tray comprising a bottom wall having a plurality of openings in fluid communication with said evaporator means; a liquid reception area for receiving water; and a plurality of channels equal to the number of said openings in said bottom wall, each channel being in fluid communication between said liquid reception area and one of said openings; and a wick disposed in said liquid reception area of said tray to at least partially absorb the water received and to direct the water into each of said channels in a substantially uniform manner.
- 5. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said inserts are sealing inserts that substantially close said holes of said cover.
- 6. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said inserts are by-pass collars that accommodate the connection of a conduit to said cover.
- 7. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 4, wherein one of said inserts is a sealing insert that substantially seals one of said openings in said cover and the other of said inserts is a by-pass collar that accommodates the connection of a conduit to said cover.
- 8. An air-treating apparatus comprising a housing; evaporator means mounted in said housing; a source for delivering water; and water distribution means disposed above said evaporator means for providing a substantially uniformly distributed flow of water from said source to said evaporator means regardless of the flow rate of water; wherein said water distribution means includes a tray comprising a bottom wall having a plurality of openings in fluid communication with said evaporator means; a liquid reception area for receiving water; and a plurality of channels equal to the number of said openings in said bottom wall, each channel being in fluid communication between said liquid reception area and one of said openings; and a wick disposed in said liquid reception area of said tray such that said water from said source first contacts said wick and is at least partially absorbed thereby to direct the water into at least two of said channels in a substantially uniform manner.
- 9. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said water delivery source includes an outlet disposed directly above said wick.
- 10. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said water delivery source is enclosed within said housing.
- 11. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said water delivery source includes a water solenoid having a fitting removably attached thereto, and wherein said water solenoid is removably secured within said housing by said fitting.
- 12. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said wick is a rigid, flat sheet of water absorbent material.
- 13. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 12, wherein said flat sheet of water absorbent material is made of a blend of cotton, synthetic and wood fibers.
- 14. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said wick ex tends at least partially into each of said channels.
- 15. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said tray further comprises a plurality of vertical walls extending upwardly from said bottom wall, said vertical walls defining said plurality of channels.
- 16. An air-treating apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said housing includes a base and a cover, said base comprising an opening to allow air to flow to said evaporator means; a first rib adjacent said opening; and a second rib adjacent said first rib and supporting said evaporator means; said first and second rib defining a channel for directing any excess water away from said opening.
