Claims
- 1. A process for recombinant production of an alcohol dehydrogenase, comprising transferring or transfecting a prokaryotic or eukaryotic cell with a nucleic acid molecule which encodes the protein of SEQ ID NO:8, culturing said cell, expressing said alcohol dehydrogenase, and isolating said alcohol dehydrogenase produced thereby.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said nucleic acid molecule comprises the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:7.
- 3. An isolated nucleic acid molecule from Lactobacillus brevis encoding an alcohol dehydrogenase which catalyzes the conversion of acetophenone to R-phenylethanol, wherein said alcohol dehydrogenase retains at least 95% activity after about 30 minutes incubation over a temperature range of about 20° C. to about 60° C.
- 4. The isolated nucleic acid molecule of claim 3, wherein said alcohol dehydrogenase comprises the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:8.
- 5. The isolated nucleic acid molecule of claim 3 consisting of the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:7.
