Claims
- 1. A liquid crystal display unit comprising:
- two electrodes facing each other;
- liquid crystal material disposed between said electrodes; and
- an oriented film disposed on at least one of said electrodes for aligning said liquid crystal material, said film being a monomolecular film formed by adsorption of a chlorosilane-type surfactant with only one long linear carbon chain having a long linear hydrocarbon chain of 10 to 25 carbon atoms and a total carbon number of 11 to 26 and a chlorosilane-type surfactant with only one short carbon chain whose total carbon number is less than 7;
- wherein the proportion of the surfactant having the long hydrocarbon chain to the surfactant having the short hydrocarbon chain is 10:1 to 1:10.
- 2. A liquid crystal display unit comprising:
- two electrodes facing each other;
- liquid crystal material disposed between said electrodes; and
- an oriented film disposed on at least one of said electrodes for aligning said liquid crystal material, said film being a monomolecular film formed by adsorption of a silane-type surfactant bonded with a liquid crystal molecule and a silane-type surfactant with a short hydrocarbon chain whose total carbon number is less than 7.
- 3. Liquid crystal display unit according to claim 2 wherein nematic liquid crystal is utilized as the liquid crystal molecules.
- 4. Liquid crystal display unit according to claim 2 which comprises a monomolecular film formed by adsorption of a silane-type surfactant bonded with ferroelectric liquid crystal as the liquid crystal molecules and a silane-type surfactant with a short carbon chain.
- 5. Liquid crystal display unit according to claim 4 wherein an azomethyne-type, an azoxy-type, or an ester-type liquid crystal is utilized as the ferroelectric liquid crystal.
- 6. A method for production of a liquid crystal display device in which first, a mixture of plural kinds of silane-type surfactants dissolved in a nonaqueous organic solvent are chemisorbed onto a first substrate with a first electrode group fixed in a matrix in advance, and a second substrate with a second electrode group fixed so that they face the first electrode group so as to form single layers of monomolecular film as the alignment film for liquid crystal on the surfaces of said substrates, respectively by the chemical bonding between the silicone in the surfactants and a natural oxidation film on the surface of said electrode; next, said first and second substrates are fixed by adhesive facing each other; and finally, the specified liquid crystal is inserted between said first and second substrates.
- 7. Method for production of a liquid crystal display unit according to claim 6 including n-paraffin as the nonaqueous solvent.
- 8. Method for production of a liquid crystal display unit according to claim 7 wherein the n-paraffin is n-cetane.
- 9. A liquid crystal display unit comprising:
- two electrodes facing each other;
- liquid crystal material disposed between said electrodes; and
- an oriented film disposed on at least one of said electrodes for aligning said liquid crystal material, said film being a monomolecular film formed by adsorption of a chlorosilane-type surfactant with only one long linear carbon chain having a total carbon number of 11 or more and a chlorosilane-type surfactant with only one short carbon chain whose total carbon number is less than 7;
- wherein at least one of the surfactants comprises a trichlorosilyl group.
