Claims
- 1. An alignment tool comprising a first coupling device having means for engaging a first conduit, a second coupling device having means for engaging a second conduit, a plate connecting the two devices together, and an actuating device for moving the first and second coupling devices relative to one another so that relative movement of the first and second coupling devices urges movement of the conduits to align their ends, characterized in that the tool includes an adjustable brace for stabilizing the tool against a part of one of the conduits.
- 2. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 1, wherein movement of the first coupling device is actuated by a hydraulic cylinder.
- 3. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 1, wherein the adjustable brace comprises a brace which is slidably mounted in a sleeve.
- 4. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 3, wherein the adjustable brace is locked in position by an annular ring which is screw-threaded.
- 5. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first and second coupling devices are capable of moving relative to one another.
- 6. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 1, wherein the relative movement results in the first coupling device moving downwards and the second coupling device moving upwards.
- 7. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first coupling device comprises a surface which is planar and is adapted to contact the other conduit.
- 8. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first coupling device comprises a movable surface.
- 9. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 1, wherein the second coupling device is adapted to fit into a bolt hole in a flange on the end of the first conduit.
- 10. An alignment tool according to claim 1, wherein the adjustable brace has at one end a surface for contacting one of the conduits.
- 11. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 8, wherein the movable surface is selected from the group consisting of a rotatable wheel and a pivot point.
- 12. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 1, wherein the plate is provided with a plurality of locating holes and the second coupling device is provided with at least one projection capable of engaging the locating holes.
- 13. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 12, wherein the second coupling device can be moved relative to the first coupling device by engaging the projection in one of the locating holes.
- 14. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 1, wherein the adjustable brace is attached to the plate and extends away from at least one of the coupling devices.
- 15. An alignment tool as claimed in claim 10, wherein the surface is curved to conform to the exterior of the conduit.
