Claims
- 1. 2,7-Dialkylsubstituted-9-substituted xanthen-6-hydroxy-3H-3-one covalently linked to a heteroatom of an organic compound of at least 125 molecular weight, said covalent linking being from the 2 or 9 position of said xanthenone.
- 2. A xanthenone according to claim 1, having at least two chloro substituents at other than the 1,8-positions.
- 3. A compound of the formula: ##STR9## wherein: .alpha. is an organic compound covalently bonded to one of .psi. or .psi.';
- .rho. is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group of from about 1 to 12 carbon atoms.
- .psi.' is hydrogen or non-oxo-carbonyl;
- L is a bond or divalent radical;
- .psi. is a linking group bonded to .alpha. or a group terminating in a heteroatom containing functionality when not bonded to .alpha.; and
- .upsilon. is 1 to the molecular weight of .alpha. divided by 500.
- 4. A compound according to claim 3, having at least two chloro substituents on the portion of the molecule in the brackets at other than the 1,8-positions of the xanthenone.
- 5. A compound according to claim 3 or 4 wherein L is phenylene having from 0 to 4 substituents.
- 6. A compound according to claim 3, wherein L is alkylene.
- 7. A compound of the formula: ##STR10## wherein: R is alkyl or carboxyalkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms;
- Z is carboxy;
- A is a ligand or receptor;
- W is a bond or divalent radical of from 0 to 8 carbon atoms;
- Y is methylene or a heteroatom containing linking functionality;
- m is 0 to 3;
- n is 1 to the molecular weight of A divided by 500; and
- said portion in the brackets of said formula having from 0 to 6 chloro groups at other than the 1,8-position of the xanthene portion of the molecule.
- 8. A compound according to claim 7, being 4,5-dichloro substituted.
- 9. A compound of the formula: ##STR11## wherein: E.sup.b is hydrogen or chloro;
- R.sup.2 is alkylene of from 1 to 2 carbon atoms;
- D.sup.2 is hydrogen or carboxy;
- m.sup.2 is 1 to 3;
- x.sup.2 is 1 to 3;
- a.sup.2 is 0 to 1;
- A.sup.2 is hydroxyl, an electrophilic ester activating group, a ligand, or a receptor, said ligand and receptor being linked by amide linkages;
- n.sup.2 is 1 when A.sup.2 is hydroxyl or an electrophilic ester activating group and is otherwise 1 to the molecular weight of A.sup.2 divided by 500.
- 10. A compound according to claim 9, wherein E.sup.b is hydrogen, R.sup.2 D.sup.2 is methyl, m.sup.2 is 1 and x.sup.2 is 3.
- 11. A compound according to claim 9, wherein E.sup.b is hydrogen, R.sup.2 D.sup.2 is carboxyethyl, m.sup.2 is 1 to 2.
- 12. A compound according to claim 9, wherein E.sup.b is chloro and R.sup.2 D.sup.2 is methyl.
- 13. A compound according to claim 9, 10, 11 or 12, wherein n.sup.2 is 1 and A.sup.2 is hydroxyl.
- 14. A compound according to claim 9 wherein E.sup.b is hydrogen, R.sup.2 D.sup.2 is methyl, m.sup.2 is 1, x.sup.2 is 3, a.sup.2 is 0, A.sup.2 is human IgG, and n.sup.2 is 1 to the molecular weight of A.sup.2 divided by 500.
