Claims
- 1. A nonionic surfactant corresponding to the formula:
- 2. The surfactant of claim 1 wherein R is lower alkyl ranging from about C1 to about C4.
- 3. The surfactant of claim 1 wherein R is ethyl.
- 4. The surfactant of claim 1 wherein R is 2-propyl.
- 5. The surfactant of claim 1 wherein R is n-butyl.
- 6. The surfactant of claim 1 wherein R is methyl.
- 7. In a process for preparing a petrochemical free, nonionic surfactant, the improvement which comprises:
catalytically reacting an alkyl polyglucoside with a reactant selected from the group consisting of:
(1) an alkyl halide, (2) an alkyl tosylate, (3) an alkyl sulfate, and (4) mixtures thereof.
- 8. The improvement of claim 6 wherein the reactant is an alkyl tosylate.
- 9. The improvement of claim 7 wherein the tosylate is selected from the group consisting methyl tosylates, ethyl tosylate, 2-propyl tosylate, n-butyl tosylate and mixtures thereof.
- 10. The improvement of claim 7 wherein the reactant is an alkyl halide.
- 12. The improvement of claim 10 wherein the alkyl halide is methyl iodide.
- 13. The improvement of claim 10 wherein the reactant is methyl chloride.
- 14. A detergent comprising:
the surfactant of claim 1.
