- 1. A process for the manufacture of 2-phenyl-4-methyl-4-benzyl-oxazolinone-(5), which consists essentially of: reacting 2-phenyl-4-benzyl-oxazolinone-(5) with methyl iodide in an anhydrous aprotic solvent in the presence of a tertiary amine selected from the group consisting of triethylamine, ethyldiisopropylamine, a Hunig's base, N,N-dimethyl-cyclohexylamine, pyridine and a picoline at temperatures of from about -10.degree. C. to 100.degree. C.
- 2. A process for the manufacture of 2-phenyl-4-methyl-4-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-2-oxazolinone-(5), which consists essentially of: reacting 4-methyl-2-phenyl-2-oxazolinone-(5) with 3,4-dimethoxybenzyl chloride in an anhydrous aprotic solvent in the presence of a tertiary amine selected from the group consisting of triethylamine, ethyldiisopropylamine, a Hunig's base, N,N-dimethylcyclohexylamine, pyridine and a picoline at temperatures of from about -10.degree. C. to 100.degree. C.
