The field of this invention relates generally to the field of training apparatuses and more particularly toward an upper body training apparatus.
The human anatomy contains about six hundred muscles which enables the body to perform daily tasks. In order for these muscles to work well it must be in good condition. Humans need regular exercise to strengthen their muscles. The device of the instant invention enables a person to condition or develop his or her upper body strength, targeting upper body muscles, such as the shoulders, chest and back muscles. The device is portable, lightweight and durable that can be utilized by anyone, young, old, male or female.
It is the object of the instant invention to provide a piece of exercise equipment that can warm up muscles; maintain existing muscles with regular use; strengthen existing muscles with regular use; and develop new muscles with extended use. The device is designed to enable the user to bring it anywhere with convenience, i.e., it is portable and safe to use nearly anywhere.
The basic embodiment of the present invention teaches a portable, foldable exercise apparatus comprising: a main body, said main body having a top face, a bottom face, and four side faces; a hinge in the center of said main body; a plurality of apertures between said top face and said bottom face of said main body; a plurality of feet extending downward from said bottom face of said main body; and at least one hole proximate one end of said top face of said main body portion.
The above embodiment can be further modified by defining that said plurality of apertures are between 2-4 inches wide.
The above embodiment can be further modified by defining that said plurality of apertures are separated from each other by at least 2 inches.
The above embodiment can be further modified by defining that a distance between said top face of said main body portion and a bottom of said plurality of feet is at least 4 inches.
An alternate embodiment of the instant invention teaches a method of performing a push up comprising the steps of: acquiring a portable, foldable exercise apparatus, said portable, foldable exercise apparatus further comprising: a main body, said main body having a top face, a bottom face, and four side faces; a hinge in the center of said main body; a plurality of apertures between said top face and said bottom face of said main body; a plurality of feet extending downward from said bottom face of said main body; and at least one hole proximate one end of said top face of said main body portion; placing said portable, foldable exercise apparatus on the ground such that said plurality of feet are contacting the ground; positioning a user on said portable, foldable exercise apparatus such that a user's fingers are placed through said plurality of apertures between said top face and said bottom face of said main body; and performing a push up without said user's fingers contacting the ground.
The above embodiment can be further modified by defining that the method further comprises the step of folding said portable, foldable exercise apparatus at said hinge in the center of said main body.
The above embodiment can be further modified by defining that the method further comprises the step of hanging said portable, foldable exercise apparatus on a wall at said at least one hole,
The above embodiment can be further modified by defining that said plurality of apertures are between 2-4 inches wide.
The above embodiment can be further modified by defining that said plurality of apertures are separated from each other by at least 2 inches.
The above embodiment can be further modified by defining that a distance between said top face of said main body portion and a bottom of said plurality of feet is at least 4 inches.
For a better understanding of the present invention, reference is to be made to the accompanying drawings. It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the precise arrangement shown in the drawings.
Turning to the drawings, the preferred embodiment is illustrated and described by reference characters that denote similar elements throughout the several views of the instant invention.
The preferred embodiment of the instant invention provides for a portable, safe and easy to use piece of exercise equipment designed to train the muscles of the upper body. Most upper-body training equipment on the market today is bulky, inconvenient and unstable. The device of the instant invention is designed with convenience and reliability in mind. It has several grips or handles to accommodate wider arm positioning. It is elevated from the ground which prevents accidental flipping during exercise. Located at the bottom are several foot bases which serve as stands and provides stability.
Another key feature of the device is its portability. It can be folded, thereby reducing its size by half. It can easily be hug on a wall or tucked into a bag for storage and transport. It is made from rigid plastic, is light and durable and will last a long time. It is mainly used for upper body development and strengthening the chest, shoulders, back and arm muscles. The handles double as grip-enhancers. Overall, this article of exercise equipment can be considered as a well-rounded portable gym.
The device comes in two sections which are attached in the middle by a hinge, making it foldable. There are six rectangular holes, three on each section. These holes serve as the grip or handle. Holding these handles enables the user to grab the equipment firmly during push-ups. Also, grabbing these handles makes the execution of the exercise more snug and stable. The user will be able to adjust the width of his or her dips depending on which of these handles is held.
The bottom of the device is supported by several one-inch feet or stands which also prevents the fingers from touching the ground during use. Exercises done with the instant device can maintain the develop the shoulder, chest and back muscles. Proper warm up and stretching of the muscles can also be achieved. Increasing the repetitions of exercise will further increase muscle mass. The unit is portable and very convenient to use anywhere. For easy storage, two holes are placed on each side for hanging the unit while it is folded.
The invention illustratively disclosed herein suitably may be practiced in the absence of any element which is not specifically disclosed herein.
The discussion included in this detailed description is intended to serve as a basic description. The reader should be aware that the specific discussion may not explicitly describe all embodiments possible and alternatives are implicit. Also, this discussion may not fully explain the generic nature of the invention and may not explicitly show how each feature or element can actually be representative or equivalent elements. Again, these are implicitly included in this disclosure. Where the invention is described in device-oriented terminology, each element of the device implicitly performs a function. It should also be understood that a variety of changes may be made without departing from the essence of the invention. Such changes are also implicitly included in the description. These changes still fall within the scope of this invention.
Further, each of the various elements of the invention and claims may also be achieved in a variety of manners. This disclosure should be understood to encompass each such variation, be it a variation of any apparatus embodiment, a method embodiment, or even merely a variation of any element of these. Particularly, it should be understood that as the disclosure relates to elements of the invention, the words for each element may be expressed by equivalent apparatus terms even if only the function or result is the same. Such equivalent, broader, or even more generic terms should be considered to be encompassed in the description of each element or action. Such terms can be substituted where desired to make explicit the implicitly broad coverage to which this invention is entitled. It should be understood that all actions may be expressed as a means for taking that action or as an element which causes that action. Similarly, each physical element disclosed should be understood to encompass a disclosure of the action which that physical element facilitates. Such changes and alternative terms are to be understood to be explicitly included in the description.
