Claims
- 1. A mobile material spreader comprising
- a main frame,
- a tank mounted on said main frame for receiving material to be transported and distributed,
- a ground engaging wheel assembly mounted on said main frame for supporting said tank for transport across the ground,
- a pair of augers rotatably mounted in said tank for conveying said material received in said tank to a discharge area,
- an opening in said tank in the vicinity of said discharge area, and
- an expeller assembly mounted on said main frame for receiving said material conveyed to said discharge area,
- said expeller assembly comprising means for discharging said material conveyed to said discharge area,
- said pair of augers comprising a first auger having a tubular element and continuous flighting extending from said tubular element along a substantial portion thereof, and a second auger mounted parallel and adjacent said first auger, the improvement comprising
- said second auger comprising a second tubular element and interrupted flighting elements extending from said second tubular element along a like substantial portion thereof for breaking up clumpy material.
- 2. A mobile spreader as set forth in claim 1 further comprising
- means for driving said pair of augers in a common rotational direction.
- 3. A mobile spreader as set forth in claim 2 wherein
- the diameter of the cylindrical path of the outer edge of said continuous flighting of said first auger is less than the diameter of the cylindrical path of the outer edges of said interrupted flighting of said second auger.
- 4. A mobile spreader as set forth in claim 3 wherein
- said interrupted flighting elements extend from said second tubular element along a generally spiral path.
- 5. A mobile spreader as set forth in claim 1 further comprising feed assist means located in the vicinity of said discharge area.
- 6. A mobile spreader as set forth in claim 5 wherein said feed assist means comprise
- a plurality of paddles for engaging said material conveyed to said discharge area and urging said material laterally toward said expeller assembly.
- 7. A mobile spreader as set forth in claim 6 wherein said plurality of paddles comprise
- a first set of blades affixed to and extending from said tubular element in a generally radial direction.
- 8. A mobile spreader as set forth in claim 7 wherein said plurality of paddles further comprise
- a second set of blades affixed to and extending from said second tubular element in a generally radial direction,
- said second set of blades adjacent to and offset from said first set of blades.
- 9. A material spreader comprising in combination
- a main frame,
- a tank mounted on said main frame for receiving material to be transported and distributed,
- a pair of augers rotatably mounted in said tank for conveying said material received in said tank to a discharge area,
- an opening in said tank in the vicinity of said discharge area, and
- an expeller assembly mounted on said main frame for receiving said material conveyed to said discharge area,
- said expeller assembly comprising means for discharging said material conveyed to said discharge area,
- said pair of augers comprising a first auger having a tubular element and continuous flighting extending from said tubular element along a substantial portion thereof, and a second auger mounted parallel and adjacent said first auger,
- said second auger comprising a second tubular element and interrupted flighting elements extending from said second tubular element along a like substantial portion thereof for breaking up clumpy material.
- 10. A material spreader as set forth in claim 9 further comprising
- means for driving said pair of augers in a common rotational direction.
- 11. A material spreader as set forth in claim 10 wherein
- the diameter of the cylindrical path of the outer edge of said continuous flighting of said first auger is less than the diameter of the cylindrical path of the outer edges of said interrupted flighting of said second auger.
- 12. A material spreader as set forth in claim 11 wherein
- said interrupted flighting elements extend from said second tubular element along a generally spiral path.
- 13. A material spreader as set forth in claim 9 further comprising feed assist means located in the vicinity of said discharge area.
- 14. A material spreader as set forth in claim 13 wherein said feed assist means comprise
- a plurality of paddles for engaging said material conveyed to said discharge area and urging said material laterally toward said expeller assembly.
- 15. A material spreader as set forth in claim 14 wherein said plurality of paddles comprise
- a first set of blades affixed to and extending from said tubular element in a generally radial direction.
- 16. A material spreader as set forth in claim 15 wherein said plurality of paddles further comprise
- a second set of blades affixed to and extending from said second tubular element in a generally radial direction,
- said second set of blades adjacent to and offset from said first set of blades.
