Claims
- 1. An ATV comprising:
a frame; at least three wheels suspended from the frame, at least one of which is a front wheel and at least one of which is a rear wheel, the front wheel defining a front axis and the rear wheel defining a rear axis, the front axis and the rear axis defining a wheelbase of between 52 and 72 inches; a power unit for driving at least one of the wheels disposed on the frame; a straddle-type seat including a main seat portion for a driver and a secondary seat portion, rearward of the main portion, for a passenger; right and left footrests that each include a front footrest for the driver and a rear footrest for the passenger; and a steering member for steering at least one of the wheels.
- 2. The ATV of claim 1, wherein:
the at least three wheels comprise only four wheels, two of which are front wheels and two of which are rear wheels; the front wheels define the front axis and the rear wheels define the rear axis; each of the wheels includes an ATV-type tire; and the steering member comprises handlebars.
- 3. The ATV of claim 2, wherein each rear footrest comprises:
an upper sheet member that defines a platform for the passenger's foot; a front sheet member that extends downwardly from a forward end of the upper sheet member; and a side sheet member that extends downwardly from an outer lateral edge of the upper sheet member.
- 4. The ATV of claim 2, wherein the front footrest and the rear footrest of each of the right and left footrests are separate, respectively.
- 5. The ATV of claim 2, wherein the front footrest and the rear footrest of each of the right and left footrests are integral, respectively.
- 6. The ATV of claim 5 wherein a longitudinal length of each of the right and the left footrests is at least 17 inches.
- 7. The ATV of claim 5, wherein a longitudinal length of each of the right and the left footrests is between 20 and 35 inches.
- 8. The ATV of claim 5, wherein the longitudinal length of each of the right and of the left footrests is between 24 and 35 inches.
- 9. The ATV of claim 5, wherein the longitudinal length of each of the right and of the left footrests is between 28 and 35 inches.
- 10. The ATV of claim 2, further comprising a heel stop provided for each of the front and rear footrests.
- 11. The ATV of claim 2, wherein the front footrests and the rear footrests each include upper surfaces, and wherein the upper surface of the front footrest is positioned below the upper surface of the rear footrest, for each of the right and left footrests, respectively.
- 12. The ATV of claim 2, wherein the front footrests and the rear footrests each include upper surfaces, and wherein the upper surface of the front footrest is positioned below the upper surface of the rear footrest by at least 1 inch but less than 10 inches, for each of the right and left footrests, respectively.
- 13. The ATV of claim 12, wherein the upper surface of the front footrest is positioned below the upper surface of the rear footrest by at least 4 inches but less than 8 inches, for each of the right and left footrests, respectively.
- 14. The ATV of claim 10, wherein the upper surface of the front footrest is positioned below the upper surface of the rear footrest by at least 4 inches but less than 6 inches, for each of the right and left footrests, respectively.
- 15. The ATV of claim 2, wherein the front and rear footrests each include upper surfaces that are substantially horizontal.
- 16. The ATV of claim 11, wherein the upper surfaces of each of the footrests are substantially horizontal.
- 17. The ATV of claim 2, wherein at least one of the front and rear footrests is angled with respect to horizontal, for each of the right and left footrests, respectively.
- 18. The ATV of claim 11, wherein at least one of the upper surfaces of the front and rear footrests is angled with respect to horizontal, for each of the right and left footrests, respectively.
- 19. The ATV of claim 2, further comprising right and left side guards associated with the right and left footrests, respectively.
- 20. The ATV of claim 19, wherein the side guards extend laterally outwardly beyond the right and left footrests, respectively.
- 21. The ATV of claim 19, wherein a portion of each side guard angles laterally outwardly as it progresses rearwardly.
- 22. The ATV of claim 19, wherein the side guards comprise tubular members.
- 23. The ATV of claim 19, wherein a portion of each side guard angles upwardly as it progresses rearwardly.
- 24. The ATV of claim 5, a ratio of the wheelbase to a longitudinal length of the footrests is less than 2.6.
- 25. The ATV of claim 2, wherein the front axis and the rear axis define a wheel base of between 55 and 65 inches.
- 26. The ATV of claim 2, wherein the front axis and the rear axis define a wheel base of between 56 and 64 inches.
