Claims
- 1. A method for inhibiting ovulation which comprises administering to a mammal an effective amount of a benzodiazepine of the formula: ##STR9## wherein R.sup.1 is an amine function of the formula; ##STR10## R.sup.2 is hydrogen, alkoxy of about 1 to 6 carbons, alkyl of about 1 to 6 carbons, trifluoromethyl, halogen, nitro, hydroxy or dialkylamino of about 2 to 10 carbons;
- R.sup.6 is hydrogen, alkyl of about 1-6 carbons, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl wherein the alkoxy group contains 1-6 carbons or phenyl; and
- R.sup.7 is hydrogen, alkyl of about 1 to 8 carbons, alkoxycarbonyl wherein the alkoxy group contains 1 to 6 carbons or alkyl of about 1 to 8 carbons substituted by a single substituent selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, alkoxy of about 1 to 6 carbons, phenoxy or alkoxycarbonyl wherein the alkoxy group contains 1 to 6 carbons, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier.
- 2. A method of preventing implantation which comprises administering to a mammal an effective amount of a benzodiazepine of the formula: ##STR11## wherein R.sup.1 is an amine function of the formula: ##STR12## R.sup.2 is hydrogen, alkoxy of about 1 to 6 carbons, alkyl of about 1 to 6 carbons, trifluoromethyl, halogen, nitro, hydroxy or dialkylamino of about 2 to 10 carbons;
- R.sup.6 is hydrogen, alkyl of about 1-6 carbons, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl wherein the alkoxy ground contains 1-6 carbons or phenyl; and
- R.sup.7 is hydrogen, alkyl of about 1 to 8 carbons, alkoxycarbonyl wherein the alkoxy group contains 1 to 6 carbons or alkyl of about 1 to 8 carbons substituted by a single substituent selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, fluoro, chloro, bromo, iodo, alkoxy of about 1 to 6 carbons, phenoxy or alkoxycarbonyl wherein the alkoxy group contains 1 to 6 carbons, and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, in association with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier.
