Claims
- 1. A polymer of formula (I): ##STR68## wherein A.sub.1 is a radical of formula (V): ##STR69## and A.sub.2 is selected from radicals of formula (V) and radicals of formula (VI):
- --R-- (VI)
- n is an integer of 0 or 1;
- m is an integer of 0 or 1; ##STR70## are independently selected from mono- and polycyclic aromatic radical; R is an arylene radical of 6 to 10 carbon atoms unsubstituted or substituted with one or more lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, haloalkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms in which the halo is fluoro, chloro or bromo, or halogen or a straight or branched chain alkylene radical of 1 to 10 carbon atoms,
- p is an integer of 2 to 100,
- s is an integer of 0 to 100, and
- p+s is an integer of 2 to 100.
- 2. A polymer of claim 1 wherein A.sub.2 is said radical of formula (VI), s is greater than 0 and R is an arylene radical.
- 3. A polymer of claim 1, wherein s is 0.
- 4. A process of producing a polymer of formula (I): ##STR71## wherein A.sub.1 is a radical of formula (V): ##STR72## and A.sub.2 is selected from radicals of formula (V) and radicals of formula (VI):
- --R-- (VI)
- n is an integer of 0 or 1;
- m is an integer of 0 or 1; ##STR73## are independently selected from mono- and polycyclic aromatic radicals; R is an arylene radical of 6 to 10 carbon atoms unsubstituted or substituted with one or more lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, lower alkoxy of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, haloalkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms in which the halo is fluoro, chloro or bromo, or halogen or straight or branched chain alkylene radical of 1 to 10 carbon atoms,
- p is an integer of 2 to 100,
- s is an integer of 0 to 100, and
- p+s is an integer of .2 to 100,
- comprising polymerizing a dianhydride of formula (VIII): ##STR74## wherein n is an integer of 0 or 1, and Ar.sub.1 is a mono- or polycyclic aromatic radical with at least one diamine selected from diamines of formulae
- H.sub.2 N--A.sub.1 --NH.sub.2
- and
- H.sub.2 N--A.sub.2 --NH.sub.2
- wherein A.sub.1 and A.sub.2 are as defined above.
- 5. A polymer according to claim 1, of formula ##STR75## wherein ##STR76## , n, p and s are as defined in claim 1 and Z is a bisphenol or a biphenol linking radical.
- 6. A polymer according to claim 1, of formula ##STR77## wherein ##STR78## n and p are as defined in claim 1.
