Claims
- 1. A compound having the formula ##STR37## wherein for the l isomer or racemic mixtures containing it B is NH.sub.2, ##STR38## or N.sub.3 ; u is 1 or 2;
- R.sub.3 is H, alkyl of 1-10 carbon atoms, or cycloalkyl of 3-8 carbon atoms;
- R.sub.4 is H, alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms, alkenyl or 2-4 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3-4 carbon atoms, or OR.sub.5 ;
- R.sub.5 is alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms;
- X is NR.sub.6 ;
- R.sub.6 is H or alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms;
- n is 1-3; and
- R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 taken together are .dbd.NOH, .dbd.NOR.sub.5 or ##STR39## to a pharmaceutically suitable salt thereof.
- 2. A compound of claim 1 wherein B is ##STR40## where R.sub.4 is H, CH.sub.3, or OR.sub.5.
- 3. A compound of claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 taken together are .dbd.NOH.
- 4. A compound of claim 1 wherein n is 1 or 2.
- 5. A compound of claim 1 wherein:
- (a) B is ##STR41## where R.sub.4 is H, CH.sub.3, or OR.sub.5 ; (b) R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 taken together are .dbd.NOH; and
- (c) n is 1 or 2.
- 6. A compound of claim 1 wherein B is ##STR42##
- 7. A compound of claim 6 wherein n is 1.
- 8. A pharmaceutical composition consisting essentially of a pharmaceutically suitable carrier and an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 1.
- 9. A pharmaceutical composition consisting essentially of a pharmaceutically suitable carrier and an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 2.
- 10. A pharmaceutical composition consisting essentially of a pharmaceutically suitable carrier and an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 3.
- 11. A pharmaceutical composition consisting essentially of a pharmaceutically suitable carrier and an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 4.
- 12. A pharmaceutical composition consisting essentially of a pharmaceutically suitable carrier and an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 5.
- 13. A pharmaceutical composition consisting essentially of a pharmaceutically suitable carrier and an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 6.
- 14. A pharmaceutical composition consisting essentially of a pharmaceutically suitable carrier and an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 7.
- 15. A method of treating a bacterial infection in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 1.
- 16. A method of treating a bacterial infection in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 2.
- 17. A method of treating a bacterial infection in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 3.
- 18. A method of treating a bacterial infection in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 4.
- 19. A method of treating a bacterial infection in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 5.
- 20. A method of treating a bacterial infection in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 6.
- 21. A method of treating a bacterial infection in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal an antibacterial amount of a compound of claim 7.
