Claims
- 1. A planar membrane formed from amphiphilic copolymers having hydrophobic and hydrophilic segments.
- 2. The planar membrane of claim 1, wherein the amphiphilic copolymers are ABA copolymers, wherein one of A and B is a hydrophilic polymer and the other is a hydrophobic polymer.
- 3. The planar membrane of claim 1, wherein the planar membrane is stabilized.
- 4. The planar membrane of claim 3, wherein the planar membrane is stabilized through crosslinking.
- 5. The planar membrane of claim 4, wherein the crosslinking comprises end group polymerization.
- 6. The planar membrane of claim 5, wherein the end groups are polymerizable via photopolymerization.
- 7. The planar membrane of claim 1 further comprising a molecule incorporated within the membrane.
- 8. The planar membrane of claim 7, wherein the molecule is a membrane protein.
- 9. The planar membrane of claim 1, wherein the copolymers are biodegradable.
- 10. The stabilized planar membrane of claim 3, wherein the membrane is biodegradable.
- 11. A method of making a stabilized planar membrane, comprising: forming a planar membrane from an amphiphilic copolymer; and stabilizing the planar membrane.
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the planar membrane is stabilized by crosslinking the copolymers to each other.
- 13. The method of claim 12, wherein the copolymers are stabilized through end group polymerization.
- 14. The method of claim 11, wherein the amphiphilic copolymers comprise an ABA copolymer, where one of A is hydrophilic and the other is hydrophobic.
- 15. The method of claim 12, wherein the copolymers comprise polymerizable end groups and the vesicles are stabilized by polymerizing the end groups.
- 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the step of stabilization further comprises crosslinking the copolymers internally.
