Claims
- 1. A method for eliciting an onset hastened and enhanced analgesic or anti-inflammatory response in a mammal, comprising administering to said mammal a pharmaceutical composition comprising:
- (a) an analgesically and anti-inflammatorily effective amount of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug comprising an oxicam derivative or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof selected from piroxicam, sudoxicam, isoxicam and [4-hydroxyl-1,2-benzothiazine-1,1-dioxide-4-(N-phenyl)-carboxamide]; and
- (b) an amount of caffeine sufficient to hasten the onset of and enhance the analgesic or anti-inflammatory response.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 wherein in the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is piroxicam.
- 3. A method according to claim 1, wherein the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is sudoxicam.
- 4. A method according to claim 1, wherein the non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drug is isoxicam.
- 5. A method according to claim 1, wherein the non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drug is [4-hydroxyl-1,2-benzothiazine-1,1-dioxide-4-(N-phenyl)-carboxamide].
- 6. A method according to claim 1, comprising from about 60 mg and about 200 mg caffeine.
- 7. A method according to claim 6, comprising from about 65 mg to about 150 mg caffeine.
- 8. A method according to claim 2, comprising from about 25 mg to about 600 mg of said oxicam derivative or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and from about 60 mg to about 200 mg caffeine.
- 9. A pharmaceutical composition of matter for use in eliciting an onset hastened or enhanced analgesic or anti-inflammatory response in a mammal, said composition comprising:
- (a) an analgesically and anti-inflammatorily effective amount of a non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drug comprising an oxicam derivative or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof selected from piroxicam, sudoxicam, isoxicam and [4-hydroxyl-1,2-benzothiazine-1,1-dioxide-4-(N-phenyl)-carboxamide]; and
- (b) an amount of caffeine sufficient to hasten the onset of and enhance the analgesic or anti-inflammatory response.
- 10. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 9, wherein the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is piroxicam.
- 11. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 9, wherein the non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drug is sudoxicam.
- 12. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 9, wherein the non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drug is isoxicam.
- 13. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 9, wherein the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug is [4-hydroxyl-1,2-benzothiazine-1,1-dioxide-4-(N-phenyl)-carboxamide].
- 14. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 9, comprising from about 60 mg to about 200 mg caffeine.
- 15. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 9, comprising from about 65 mg to about 150 mg caffeine.
- 16. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 9, comprising from about 25 mg to about 600 mg of said oxicam derivative or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and from about 60 mg to about 200 mg caffeine.
- 17. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 9, further comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable inert carrier.
- 18. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 17, said composition being adapted for oral administration.
- 19. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 18, said composition being formulated as a tablet or capsule.
- 20. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 9, wherein said composition is in sustained release form.
- 21. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 10, comprising from about 10 mg to about 20 mg piroxicam, and from about 65 mg to about 150 mg caffeine in sustained release form.
- 22. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 19, said composition being adapted for rectal administration.
- 23. A pharmaceutical composition according to claim 22, said composition being formulated as a suppository.
