1. Field of the Invention
The present invention relates generally to a system for anchoring bolts and more specifically it relates to an anchor bolt installation system comprised of a single-use capsule containing a mono-component anchoring substance for anchoring fastening articles to walls or similar structures.
2. Description of the Related Art
Any discussion of the related art throughout the specification should in no way be considered as an admission that such related art is widely known or forms part of common general knowledge in the field.
Wall anchors have been in use for years. Wall anchors are generally utilized to provide a receptacle to which a fastener such as a bolt or screw may be attached to retain a load. Previously existing wall anchors have generally been comprised of anchor screws which are inserted into a wall and then used as an anchor for additional fasteners. However, such anchor screws are often installed in such a way that allows the anchor or fastener to wiggle or loosen over time, thus compromising the integrity of the anchoring system and creating a risk that the load will become dislodged and fall away from the wall.
Anchoring systems have been introduced which utilize adhesive components within a wall anchor. However, these anchoring systems, such as the capsule disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 5,104,266, have used multiple components which, when manually mixed, form an adhesive compound. These systems require that the installer properly mix the multiple components to form the compound, and failure to do so can compromise the integrity of the anchor. Additionally, the requirement of mixing multiple components can often create a mess for the individual installing the anchor and, in some cases, requires the use of specialized tools which would not otherwise be needed for installing an anchor within a wall or other structure.
Because of the inherent problems with the related art, there is a need for a new and improved anchor bolt installation system comprised of a single-use capsule containing a mono-component anchoring substance for anchoring fastening articles to walls or similar structures.
A system comprised of a single-use capsule containing a mono-component anchoring substance for anchoring fastening articles to walls or similar structures. The invention generally relates to an anchoring system which includes an open-ended capsule containing a plurality of apertures formed in an outer wall thereof. A mono-component anchoring substance is placed within a cavity in the capsule. A sleeve is positioned around the outer surface of the capsule and a cap is positioned to cover the opening of the capsule to prevent premature hardening of the anchoring substance. A guide member may be positioned within the opening of the capsule to guide and center a fastener being inserted therein. After removing the outer sleeve and cap, the capsule may be placed within a borehole of a wall. A fastener may then be inserted within the capsule, causing the anchoring substance to be excreted through the apertures of the capsule to firmly secure the capsule and bolt within the wall.
There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, some of the features of the invention in order that the detailed description thereof may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the invention that will be described hereinafter and that will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto. In this respect, before explaining at least one embodiment of the invention in detail, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited in its application to the details of construction or to the arrangements of the components set forth in the following description or illustrated in the drawings. The invention is capable of other embodiments and of being practiced and carried out in various ways. Also, it is to be understood that the phraseology and terminology employed herein are for the purpose of the description and should not be regarded as limiting.

The first end 21 of the capsule 20 will generally include an opening 22 through which a fastener 15 may be inserted. A cavity 25 will preferably be present within the capsule 20 extending from its first end 21 to its second end 24. A flange 23 may also be included at the open first end 21 of the capsule 20 to provide additional structural support and guidance when the present invention is in use. The flange 23 will also prevent the capsule 20 from being inserted fully within the borehole 14.

While the figures illustrate apertures 26 comprised of a rectangular shape, it is appreciated that any shape may be utilized for the apertures 26 without affecting the overall operation of the present invention. Further, the number and spacing of apertures 26 present on the outer surface of the capsule 20 should not be construed as being limited to the arrangement shown in the figures. Preferably, however, the apertures 26 will extend completely around the body of the capsule 20 so as to allow even distribution of the excreted anchoring substance 30 in a manner which completely surrounds the capsule 20.
The present invention will generally utilize an anchoring substance 30 to secure the capsule 20 within a borehole 14 of a wall 13. The anchoring substance 30 will generally be positioned within the cavity 25 of the capsule 20 such that, upon introduction of a fastener 15 or other items within the cavity 25, the anchoring substance 30 will be excreted out of the capsule 20 through its plurality of apertures 26.
The anchoring substance 30 of the present invention will generally be comprised of a substance or material which hardens with exposure to humidity or air. The anchoring substance 30 may be comprised of various types of materials, including moisture-curing polyurethane, moisture-curing urethane, epoxy monocomponent resin, silicone adhesives, acrylic adhesives, methacrylate adhesives, cyanoacrylate adhesives and sikyl terminated modified polymers. In a preferred embodiment, the anchoring substance 30 will be comprised of mono-component anchoring substance 30 such as an adhesive comprised of a moisture-curing polyurethane.
It should be appreciated that various other types of anchoring substances 30 may be utilized with the present invention without affecting its overall operation so long as the substance 30 is capable of being excreted through the apertures 26 of the capsule 20 and provides the requisite adhesiveness for securing the capsule 20 within the borehole 14 of a wall 13 or other structure. Further, the anchoring substance 30 may be comprised of a substantially solid substance as shown in the figures or a more liquid substance. It should be appreciated that the viscosity of the anchoring substance 30 may vary so long as it may be excreted through the apertures 26 upon introduction of an object within the cavity 25 of the capsule 20.

The sleeve 40 will generally include an outer surface 42 and an inner surface 44. Generally, the inner surface 44 of the sleeve 40 will be removably attached to the outer surface of the capsule 20 in a manner which covers all of its apertures 26. The sleeve 40 may be removably attached to the outer surface of the capsule 20 through various means, including the use of an adhesive 12 along the outer perimeter of the inner surface 44 of the sleeve 40 as shown in

It should also be appreciated that any number of materials and/or methods may be utilized to removably attach the sleeve 40 to the capsule 20 so long as the sleeve 40 is easily removable therefrom and is secured in a manner so as to prevent premature hardening of the anchoring substance 30.
