Abstract
An anchor covering assembly for cushioning a bow anchor on a boat when the boat is docked includes a plurality of mitts. Each of the mitts is positioned on an associated one of a plurality of protrusions on a bow anchor of a boat when the boat is docked. Additionally, each of the mitts is comprised of a resiliently compressible material to inhibit the protrusions on the bow anchor from injuring a passerby when the passerby strikes the protrusions.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The disclosure and prior art relates to covering devices and more particularly pertains to a new covering device for cushioning a bow anchor on a boat when the boat is docked.


BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a plurality of mitts. Each of the mitts is positioned on an associated one of a plurality of protrusions on a bow anchor of a boat when the boat is docked. Additionally, each of the mitts is comprised of a resiliently compressible material to inhibit the protrusions on the bow anchor from injuring a passerby when the passerby strikes the protrusions.


There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.


The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 10 thereof, a new covering device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.


As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 10, the anchor covering assembly 10 generally comprises a plurality of mitts 12 and each of the mitts 12 is positioned on an associated one of a plurality of protrusions 14 on a bow anchor 15 of a boat when the boat is docked. The boat may be a yacht or any other type of boat that commonly employs a bow anchor 15. Each of the mitts 12 is comprised of a resiliently compressible material to inhibit the protrusions 14 on the bow anchor 15 from injuring a passerby when the passerby inadvertently strikes the protrusions 14 while walking. Each of the mitts 12 has a first end 16, a second end 18 and an outer wall 20 extending therebetween. The first end 16 corresponding to each of the mitts 12 is open such that the first end 16 corresponding to each of the mitts 12 receives the associated protrusion 14.


A plurality of cushions 22 is provided and each of the cushions 22 is positioned within the outer wall 20 corresponding to an associated one of the mitts 12 for cushioning the associated protrusion 14. Each of the cushions 22 is coextensive with the outer wall 20 of the associated mitt 12 and each of the cushions 22 is comprised of a resiliently compressible material, such as rubber or the like. Thus, each of the cushions 22 enhances the associated mitt 12's ability to inhibit the passerby from being injured by the bow anchor 15. A plurality of cables 24 is provided and each of the cables 24 is coupled between each of the mitts 12 such that the plurality of mitts 12 is coupled together. The cables 24 may comprise rope, chain and any other type of flexible cable that resists being damaged by salt water and freshwater. Each of the mitts 12 may be structured in a shape that corresponds to the design of the bow anchor 15 and each of the cables 24 may have a length and orientation to accommodate the design of the bow anchor 15.


As shown in FIG. 4, the plurality of mitts 12 may include a central mitt 26 and a pair of outward mitts 28. Each of the outward mitts 28 may be spaced from opposite sides of the central mitt 26 and the first end 16 corresponding to each of the outward mitts 28 may be directed toward the central mitt 26. Thus, the plurality of mitts 12 as shown in FIG. 4 may accommodate a fluke style bow anchor. As shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the outward mitts 28 may be spaced apart from each other and the central mitt 26 may be spaced from the outward mitts 28. Additionally, the first end 16 corresponding to each of the outward mitts 28 may be directed toward the first end 16 corresponding to the central mitt 26. Thus, the plurality of mitts 12 as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 may accommodate a Plough bow anchor. Additionally, the central mitt 26 as shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 may have a triangular shape.


As shown in FIGS. 7 and 8, each of the outward mitts 28 may be spaced from opposite sites of the central mitt 26 and the first end 16 corresponding to each the outward mitts 28 may face the same direction and the first end 16 of central mitt 26. Thus, the plurality of mitts 12 as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8 may accommodate a Bruce/Claw bow anchor. As shown in FIGS. 9 and 10, a single mitt 12 may be provided and a single cable 24 may be coupled to the single mitt 12 to form a loop. The single mitt 12 as shown in FIGS. 9 and 10 may be positioned on a tip of a Rocna anchor and the single cable 24 may be looped around the Rocna anchor to retain the single mitt 12 on the Rocna anchor. Additionally, the mitts 12 and cables 24 may be structured and oriented to accommodate all types of bow anchors 15.


In use, each of the mitts 12 is positioned on one of the protrusions 14 on the bow anchor 15 when the bow anchor 15 is fully retracted and the boat is being docked at a marina or the like. Thus, the mitts 12 inhibit the protrusions 14 on the bow anchor 15 from injuring a person walking past the bow anchor 15 when the person inadvertently strikes the protrusions 14 on the bow anchor 15. In this way the mitts 12 and cables 24 enhance safety for people walking on docks at a marina with respect to accidentally striking anchor bows. Each of the mitts 12 is removed from the bow anchor 15 prior to deploying the bow anchor 15 for anchoring the boat.


With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.


Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.

Claims
  • 1. An anchor covering assembly being configured to be positioned on a bow anchor of a boat thereby inhibiting the bow anchor from posing a striking hazard when the boat is docked, said assembly comprising: a plurality of mitts, each of said mitts being configured to be positioned on an associated one of a plurality of protrusions on a bow anchor of a boat when the boat is docked, each of said mitts being comprised of a resiliently compressible material wherein each of said mitts is configured to inhibit the protrusions on the bow anchor from injuring a passerby when the passerby strikes the protrusions; anda plurality of cables, each of said cables being coupled between each of said mitts such that said plurality of mitts is coupled together, each of said cables consisting of one of rope and chain wherein each of said cables is configured to be resistant to damage by saltwater and freshwater.

The assembly according to claim 1, wherein each of said mitts has a first end, a second end and an outer wall extending therebetween, said first end corresponding to each of said mitts being open wherein said first end corresponding to each of said mitts is configured to receive the associated protrusion.
  • 3. An anchor covering assembly being configured to be positioned on a bow anchor of a boat thereby inhibiting the bow anchor from posing a striking hazard when the boat is docked, said assembly comprising: a plurality of mitts, each of said mitts being configured to be positioned on an associated one of a plurality of protrusions on a bow anchor of a boat when the boat is docked, each of said mitts being comprised of a resiliently compressible material wherein each of said mitts is configured to inhibit the protrusions on the bow anchor from injuring a passerby when the passerby strikes the protrusions, each of said mitts having a first end, a second end and an outer wall extending therebetween, said first end corresponding to each of said mitts being open wherein said first end corresponding to each of said mitts is configured to receive the associated protrusion; anda plurality of cushions, each of said cushions being positioned within said outer wall corresponding to an associated one of said mitts for cushioning the associated protrusion, each of said cushions being coextensive with said outer wall of said associated mitt.

An anchor covering assembly being configured to be positioned on a bow anchor of a boat thereby inhibiting the bow anchor from posing a striking hazard when the boat is docked, said assembly comprising: a plurality of mitts, each of said mitts being configured to be positioned on an associated one of a plurality of protrusions on a bow anchor of a boat when the boat is docked, each of said mitts being comprised of a resiliently compressible material wherein each of said mitts is configured to inhibit the protrusions on the bow anchor from injuring a passerby when the passerby strikes the protrusions, each of said mitts having a first end, a second end and an outer wall extending therebetween, said first end corresponding to each of said mitts being open wherein said first end corresponding to each of said mitts is configured to receive the associated protrusion;a plurality of cushions, each of said cushions being positioned within said outer wall corresponding to an associated one of said mitts for cushioning the associated protrusion, each of said cushions being coextensive with said outer wall of said associated mitt; anda plurality of cables, each of said cables being coupled between each of said mitts such that said plurality of mitts is coupled together, each of said cables consisting of one of rope and chain wherein each of said cables is configured to be resistant to damage by saltwater and freshwater.
