Claims
- 1. A medical valve having an open mode that permits fluid flow, and a closed mode that prevents fluid flow, the medical valve comprising:
a housing forming an interior having a fluid chamber; a valve mechanism within the interior, the valve mechanism having a movable member, the movable member including a needle that extends into the fluid chamber when the valve is in the open mode.
- 2. The medical valve as defined by claim 1 movable member forms a fluid channel that is open when in the open mode, and closed when in the closed mode.
- 3. The medical valve as defined by claim 1 wherein the valve has draws back between about one and several micro-liters when transitioning from the open mode to the closed mode.
- 4. The medical valve as defined by claim 1 wherein the valve has pushes fluid distally from the valve when transitioning from the open mode to the closed mode.
- 5. The medical valve as defined by claim 1 wherein the valve has neither a positive push nor a drawback when the valve transitions from the open mode to the closed mode.
- 6. A medical valve having an open mode that permits fluid flow, and a closed mode that prevents fluid flow, the medical valve comprising:
a housing forming an interior having a fluid chamber, the volume of the fluid chamber remaining substantially constant as the valve transitions between the open mode and the closed mode.
- 7. The medical valve as defined by claim 6 further including means for maintaining the volume of the fluid chamber substantially constant as the valve transitions between the open mode and the closed mode.
- 8. The medical valve as defined by claim 6 further including a valve element that at least in part forms the fluid chamber.
- 9. The medical valve as defined by claim 6 wherein the fluid chamber causes the valve to be a neutral design.
- 10. A medical valve having an open mode that permits fluid flow, and a closed mode that prevents fluid flow, the medical valve comprising:
a housing forming an interior having a fluid chamber; means for controlling fluid flow through the valve; and means for maintaining the fluid chamber at a substantially constant volume as the valve transitions between the open mode and the closed mode.
- 11. The medical valve as defined by claim 10 wherein the controlling means includes a valve element.
