Claims
- 1. A method for the safe and effective collection, storage and transfusion of blood comprising the steps of,
- collecting blood from a donor into a polymer-iodine coated container to receive said blood,
- storing said collected blood in a polymer-iodine coated storage container prior to transfusion, and then
- transfusing into a recipient the blood from a polymer-iodine coated transfusion container, wherein the iodine released from each polymer-iodine coated container aids in inactivating toxic microorganisms in said blood.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein the iodine is removed from the stored blood prior to the transfusing.

No. 07/661,699 filed Feb. 27, 1991 (now abandoned), the disclosures of which are hereby incorporated herein in their entirety.
