- 11. A package, as claimed in claim 10, wherein:
said plurality of shock pads includes an end pair of shock pads positioned near an end of said top cover, said plurality of shock pads further including at least a pair of intermediate shock pads spaced longitudinally from said end pair of shock pads.
- 12. A package, as claimed in claim 11, wherein:
said end pair of said shock pairs have a first height and said pair of intermediate shock pads have a second higher height.
- 13. A package to secure a plurality of computer disk drives therein, said package comprising:
a main insert including a plurality of compartments formed therein to receive the disk drives, said compartments arranged in at least one row extending in a longitudinal direction, and at least one compartment of said plurality of compartments extending transversely to said longitudinal direction, said plurality of compartments being defined by at least two corresponding side walls, one of said side walls being an outer side wall; a top cover for covering said compartments of said main insert, said top cover including an upper surface and a lower surface; and means communicating longitudinally along said top cover for displacing the disk drives in contact with said outer side walls of said compartments to constrain the disk drives from transverse movement.
- 14. In subcombination, a top cover used to cover a package containing a plurality of computer disk drives loaded therein, said top cover comprising:
a body having an upper surface and a lower surface, said lower surface being placed adjacent the disk drives loaded in the package, said top cover further comprising a central rib extending away from said lower surface of said top cover and contacting the disk drives, to constrain the disk drives from movement in the package at least in a transverse direction.
- 15. In subcombination, a top cover used in combination with a package having a plurality of computer disk drives loaded therein, said top cover comprising:
a body having an upper surface and a lower surface, said top cover further comprising means communicating longitudinally along said lower surface for contacting the disk drives to constrain the disk drives from movement in the package in at least a transverse direction.
- 16. In subcombination, a top cover used in combination with a package having a plurality of computer disk drives loaded therein, said top cover comprising:
a body having an upper surface and a lower surface, said top cover further comprising means communicating longitudinally along said lower surface for displacing the disk drives in contact with an outer side wall of the package to constrain the disk drives from transverse movement in the package in at least a transverse direction.
- 17. A method of securing computer disk drives during shipment, said method comprising the steps of:
providing a main insert including a plurality of compartments formed therein, at least some of said compartments having corresponding computer disk drives loaded therein; providing a top cover including a central rib; placing the top cover over the main insert; and displacing the disk drives in a transverse direction by the central rib during said placing step so that the disk drives are held in contact against outer side walls of the corresponding compartments to prevent transverse movement of the disk drives in their compartments during shipment.
- 18. A method of securing computer disk drives during shipment, said method comprising the steps of:
providing a main insert including a plurality of compartments formed therein, at least some of said compartments having corresponding computer disk drives loaded therein; providing a top cover; providing a central rib; positioning the central rib in communication with said disk drives so that the disk drives are held within the compartments to prevent transverse movement of the disk drives in their compartments during shipment; and placing the top cover over the main insert.
