Claims
- 1. A cosmetic composition comprising a cosmetic vehicle and at least about 0.05 percent by weight based on the total weight of said composition of a compound of the formula ##STR78## wherein PG,62 R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl containing 1 to about 12 carbon atoms and optionally branched carboxyalkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms,
- R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkoxy containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, at least one alkyl and carboxyalkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and halogen, ##STR79## wherein m is 0 or 1 and n is 0, 1 or 2, and
- each of R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms, carboxyalkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms and alkoxy containing 1-4 carbon atoms.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein R.sub.3 represents --S--CH.sub.2 --COOH, --S--CH.sub.2 --COOC.sub.2 H.sub.5 or ##STR80##
- 3. A cosmetic composition comprising a cosmetic vehicle and at least about 0.05 percent by weight based on the total weight of said composition of a compound of the formula ##STR81## wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl containing 1 to about 12 carbon atoms and optionally branched carboxyalkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms,
- R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkoxy containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, at least one alkyl and carboxyalkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and halogen,
- R.sub.3 is --S(CH.sub.2).sub.3 N(CH.sub.3).sub.2, --S(CH.sub.2).sub.2 N(CH.sub.3).sub.2 or --S(CH.sub.2).sub.2 NHC.sub.4 H.sub.9, and
- each of R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms, carboxyalkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms and alkoxy containing 1-4 carbon atoms.
- 4. A process for protecting a cosmetic composition liable to deteriorate in the presence of light radiation which comprises incorporating therein in an amount from about 0.05 to about 5 percent by weight based on the weight of the composition a compound of the formula ##STR82## wherein R.sub.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl containing 1 to about 12 carbon atoms and optionally branched carboxyalkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms,
- R.sub.2 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkoxy containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms, at least one alkyl and carboxyalkyl radical containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and halogen,
- R.sub.3 is selected from the group consisting of --SCH.sub.2 COOH, --SCH.sub.2 COOC.sub.2 H.sub.5, --SCH(CH.sub.3)COOH, --S(CH.sub.2).sub.3 N(CH.sub.3).sub.2, --S(CH.sub.2).sub.2 N(CH.sub.3).sub.2, --S(CH.sub.2).sub.2 NHC.sub.4 H.sub.9, H, --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 COOH and --CH.sub.2 COOH, and
- each of R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, alkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms, carboxyalkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms and alkoxy containing 1-4 carbon atoms, with the proviso that when R.sub.3 represents hydrogen at least one of the radicals R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 is not hydrogen.
