Claims
- 1. A compound of the formula ##STR20## wherein Q is ##STR21## or --XR'; X is oxygen or sulphur;
- R.sup.1 is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy;
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkynyloxy, mono-, di- or tri- halomethyl, trifuluoromethoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylthio, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 branched alkylthio, nitro, or cyano;
- R.sup.3 is hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
- R.sup.4 is heterocyclylalkyl, wherein the heterocyclic moiety is morpholinyl, piperidinyl, pyrrolidinyl, piperazinyl, oxiranyl, oxetanyl, furanyl, tetrahydropyranyl or tetrahydrofuranyl;
- R' is C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 haloalkenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxyalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylthioalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 hydroxyalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 acyloxyalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 aroyloxyalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 aminoalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylaminoalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 dialkylaminoalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 trialkylsilylalkyl, wherein each of the aforementioned alkyl moieties may be straight-chain or branched; C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylphenyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 arylalkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.12 alkarylalkyl, or heterocyclylalkyl, wherein the heterocyclic moiety is morpholinyl, piperidinyl, pyrrolidinyl, piperazinyl, oxiranyl, oxetanyl, furanyl, tetrahydropyranyl or tetrahydrofuranyl;
- R.sup.5 is hydrogen, halo, methyl, mono-, di- or tri-halomethyl; and R.sup.6 is
- 1) R.sup.Z --NH--, wherein R.sup.Z is ##STR22## wherein R.sup.a and R.sup.b are independently hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl; and Z.sup.1 is O or S; ##STR23## wherein Z.sup.2 is O or S; and R.sup.A is:
- a) fully unsaturated, partially or fully reduced or substituted oxathiinyl, furanyl, dithiinyl, dioxinyl, thienyl, thiazolyl, oxazolyl, isoxazolyl, isothiazolyl, thiadiazolyl, pyrazolyl, pyrrolyl, imidazolyl, pyranyl, oxathiazinyl, oxadiazolyl, or indolyl;
- b) substituted or unsubstituted, linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkenyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkynyloxy, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 mono- or di-alkylamino; C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 cycloalkylalkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkenyl, unsubstituted or substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or C.sub.7 -C.sub.8 phenylalkyl; or
- c) aryl, aralkyl, aryloxyalkyl, or cycloalkylaryloxy wherein each alkyl moiety contains from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and each aryl moiety is naphthyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by one or more halo, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, carboxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylthio, phenyl, nitro, amino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxycarbonylamino, hydroxyl, acetyl, acetyloxy, phenoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxycarbonyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylcarbonyl:
- (d) R.sup.7 --W--, wherein
- W is O, NH or NR.sup.f wherein R.sup.f is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; and
- R.sup.7 is linear or branched, unsubstituted or halo-substituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alknyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkenyl unsubstituted or substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, unsubstituted phenyl or phenyl substituted by halo, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, carboxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkythio, phenyl, nitro, amino, hydroxyl, acetyl, acetyloxy, phenoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxycarbonyl, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylcarbonyl; furanylalkyl, tetrahydrofuranylalkyl, oxetanylalkyl, or oxiranylalkyl;
- e) R.sup.8 --W--R.sup.e, wherein
- R.sup.e is a linear or a branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylidene;
- W.sup.1 is O or S; and
- R.sup.8 is linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl;
- f) R.sup.9 R.sup.10 --N --R , wherein
- R.sup.e is as defined above; and
- R.sup.9 and R.sup.10 are independently linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; ##STR24## wherein R.sup.e is as defined above;
- W.sup.2 is O, S, NH, NR.sup.11 or CR.sup.12 R.sup.13 ; wherein R.sup.11 is linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; R.sup.12 and R.sup.13 are independently hydrogen or linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; and
- n' and m are independently 1, 2 or 3;
- h) R.sup.14 --O.sub.2 --C--R.sup.e, wherein
- R.sup.e is as defined above; and
- R.sup.14 is linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkenyl, or C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkynyl; or C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, or C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkenyl, unsubstituted or substituted by C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl;
- i) U--R.sup.e --, wherein
- R.sup.e is as defined above; U is hydroxyl, acyloxy, aryloxy, arylsulphonyloxy, nitro, cyano or trimethylsilyl;
- j) 1-adamantyl, 2-adamantyl or bornyl;
- k) Ar.sup.1 --R.sup.e --, wherein
- R.sup.e is as defined above; and
- Ar.sup.1 is phenyl or phenyl substituted independently with one to three halogen, mono-, di- or tri- halomethyl, nitro, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkenyloxy, or C.sub.3 -C.sub.4 alkynyloxy.
- 2. A compound as recited in claim 1 wherein R.sup.6 is ##STR25## Z.sup.2 is O or S; and R.sup.A is
- a) fully unsaturated, partially or fully reduced or substituted oxathiinyl, furanyl, dithiinyl, dioxinyl, thienyl, thiazoyl, oxazoyl, isoxazoyl, isothiazoyl, thiadiazolyl, pyrazolyl, pyrrolyl, pyranyl, oxathiazinyl, or oxadiazolyl;
- b) linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkenyloxy, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkynyloxy, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 mono- or di- alkylamino; C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkenyl;
- c) phenyl or phenyl substituted by one or more halo, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylthio, phenyl, amino, hydroxyl, carboxyl, acetyl, acetyloxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxycarbonyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylcarbonyl or phenoxy; C.sub.7 -C.sub.8 phenylalkyl or C.sub.7 -C.sub.8 phenoxyalkyl.
- 3. A compound as recited in claim 2 wherein R.sup.A is
- a) dihydro-3-oxathiinyl, furanyl, dihydrofuranyl, thienyl, pyrrolyl, dihydro-2-dithiinyl, or dihydro-2-dioxinyl, which can be substituted by one to three C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxyalkyl groups;
- b) linear or branched C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.8 alkynyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8, alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 mono- or di-alkylamino, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkyl or C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 cycloalkenyl; or
- c) phenyl or phenyl substituted by one or more halo, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylthio, carboxyl, amino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkoxycarbonyl, hydroxyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylcarbonyl, phenyl or phenoxy.
- 4. A compound as recited in claim 3 wherein R.sup.6 is ##STR26## Z.sup.2 is O or S; R.sup.1 is hydrogen; fluoro; or methyl;
- R.sup.2 is hydrogen, chloro, fluoro, or methyl;
- R.sup.3 is hydrogen or methyl;
- R.sup.5 is hydrogen; and
- R.sup.15 is methyl, ethyl or propyl.
- 5. A compound as recited in claim 2 wherein R.sup.6 is: ##STR27## Z.sup.2 is O or S; X.sup.1 is O or S;
- R.sup.16 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, 1,1-dimethylethyl, fluoro, chloro, carboxyl, acetamido, cyano, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 haloalkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 acyloxy, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxy)carbonyl, or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl)carbonyl; and
- R.sup.17 and R.sup.18 are independently hydrogen or methyl.
- 6. A compound as recited in claim 5 wherein R.sup.1, R.sup.3 and R.sup.5 are hydrogen, R.sup.2 is halogen, and R.sup.16 is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or 1,1-dimethylethyl.
- 7. A compound as recited in claim 2 wherein R.sup.6 is: ##STR28## Z.sup.2 is O or S; R.sup.9, R.sup.20, and R.sup.22 are independently hydrogen or halogen; and
- R.sup.23 is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, mono, di- or tri-haloalkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkylthio, amino, C.sub.1 -C.sub.8 alkylcarbonylamino, hydroxyl, acetyl, acetyloxy, or acetylamino.
- 8. A compound as recited in claim 2 wherein R.sup.A is a linear or branched C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkenyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkynyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.6 alkoxy, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 mono- or di-alkylamino; phenyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.8 phenylalkyl, C.sub.7 -C.sub.8 phenoxyalkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, or C.sub.3 -C.sub.7 cycloalkenyl.
- 9. A compound as recited in claim 2 wherein Q is --CR.sup.3 .dbd.NOR.sup.4, R.sup.A is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, phenyl, or dihydro-3-oxathiinyl, furanyl, dihydrofuranyl or thienyl substituted by one to three methyl or ethyl groups, R.sup.1 is H, R.sup.2 is Cl, R.sup.3 is H or methyl, and R.sup.5 is H.
- 10. A compound as recited in claim 9 wherein R.sup.A is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, Z.sup.2 is S, and R.sup.3 is H.
- 11. A compound as recited in claim 9 wherein R.sup.A is 2-methyl-3-furanyl, Z.sup.2 is S, and R.sup.3 is H.
- 12. A compound as recited in claim 2 wherein Q is --XR', R.sup.A is furanyl, thienyl or dihydro-3-oxathiinyl substituted by one to three methyl or ethyl groups; R.sup.2 is Cl or methoxy; and R' is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 di-haloalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 di-haloalkenyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 mono-haloalkenyl, or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkoxyalkyl.
- 13. A compound as recited in claim 12 wherein R.sup.A is 2-methyl-3-thienyl or 2-methyl-3-furanyl and Z.sup.2 is S.
- 14. A method for treating HIV infection in a patient, which comprises administering to the patient an effective amount of a compound as recited in claim 1.
- 15. A method for treating a HIV infection in a patient, which comprises administering to the patient an effective amount of a compound as recited in claim 2.
- 16. A method for treating a HIV infection in a patient, which comprises administering to the patient an effective amount of a compound as recited in claim 12.
