Claims
- 1. An antibacterial composition which comprises an antibacterially effective amount of a compound of the formula ##SPC8##
- wherein
- R is hydrogen, straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 5 to 7 carbon atoms or said alkyl or said cycloalkyl substituted by one or more identical or different moieties selected from the group consisting of hydroxy and alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
- 2. A composition according to claim 1 wherein said alkyl is of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and said cycloalkyl is of 5 or 6 carbon atoms.
- 3. A composition according to claim 1, wherein R is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, iso-propyl, butyl, cyclohexyl or .beta.-hydroxy-ethyl.
- 4. A composition according to claim 1, wherein R is hydrogen, straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, hydroxyl substituted straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or cyclohexyl.
- 5. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said compound is ##SPC9##
- 6. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said compound is ##SPC10##
- 7. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said compound is ##SPC11##
- 8. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said compound is ##SPC12##
- 9. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said compound is ##SPC13##
- 10. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said compound is ##SPC14##
- 11. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said compound is ##SPC15##
- 12. The composition according to claim 1, wherein said compound is ##SPC16##
- 13. A method of preventing bacterial infections in humans and animals and treating bacterial infections in humans and animals which comprises administering to a human or animal in need thereof an antibacterially effective amount of a compound of the formula: ##SPC17##
- wherein
- R is hydrogen, straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 5 to 7 carbon atoms or said alkyl or said cycloalkyl substituted by one or more identical or different moieties selected from the group consisting of hydroxy and alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
- 14. A method according to claim 13 wherein said alkyl is of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and said cycloalkyl is of 5 or 6 carbon atoms.
- 15. A method according to claim 13 wherein R is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, n-propyl, iso-propyl, butyl, cyclohexyl or .beta.-hydroxy-ethyl.
- 16. A method according to claim 13, wherein R is hydrogen, straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, hydroxyl substituted straight or branched chain alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms, or cyclohexyl.
- 17. A method according to claim 13, wherein said compound is ##SPC18##
- 18. A method according to claim 13, wherein said compound is ##SPC19##
- 19. A method according to claim 13, wherein said compound is ##SPC20##
- 20. A method according to claim 13, wherein said compound is ##SPC21##
- 21. A method according to claim 13, wherein said compound is ##SPC22##
- 22. A method according to claim 13, wherein said compound is ##SPC23##
- 23. A method according to claim 13, wherein said compound is ##SPC24##
- 24. A method according to claim 13, wherein said compound is ##SPC25##
