Claims
- 1. A compound of the following formula (I), a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:
- 2. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein X1 represents a group of formula —N(R4)—.
- 3. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein X1 represents a group of formula —N(R4)—, in which R4 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-C3 alkyl group.
- 4. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein X1 represents a group of formula —NH—.
- 5. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein X2 represents a group of formula —N(R5)—.
- 6. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein X2 represents a group of formula —N(R5)—, in which R5 represents a hydrogen atom or a C1-C3 alkyl group.
- 7. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein X2 represents a group of the formula —NH—.
- 8. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R1 represents a hydrogen atom.
- 9. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R1 represents a C6-C10 aryl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A.

A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 9, wherein R1 represents a phenyl, 1-naphthyl or 2-naphthyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A.
- 11. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 9, wherein R1 represents a phenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A.

A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R1 represents a heterocyclic group which has 1-4 ring nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen atoms and which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group B.

A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 12, wherein R1 represents a 5- or 6-membered aromatic heterocyclic group or a 5- or 6-membered aromatic heterocyclic group fused to a benzene ring, which has 1-4 ring nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen atoms and which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group B.
- 14. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R1 represents a C1-C14 alkyl group which is substituted with one to three C6-C10 aryl groups which are the same or different and which are unsubstituted or have one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A.
- 15. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 14, wherein the aryl moiety of R1 is a phenyl, 1-naphthyl or 2-naphthyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A.
- 16. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 14, wherein the aryl moiety of R1 is a phenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A.
- 17. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 14, wherein the alkyl moiety of R1 is a C1-C8 alkyl group.
- 18. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 14, wherein the alkyl moiety of R1 is a C1-C4 alkyl group.
- 19. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 14, wherein the alkyl moiety of R1 is a C2 alkyl group.
- 20. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R1 represents a C1-C14 alkyl group which is substituted with one to three heterocyclic groups which are the same or different and each have 1-4 ring nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen atoms and are unsubstituted or have one or more substituents from said Substituent Group B.

A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 20, wherein the heterocyclic moiety of R1 is a 5- or 6-membered aromatic heterocyclic group or a 5- or 6-membered aromatic heterocyclic group fused to a benzene ring, which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group B.
- 22. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 20, wherein the alkyl moiety of R1 is a C1-C8 alkyl group.
- 23. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 20, wherein the alkyl moiety of R1 is a C1-C4 alkyl group.
- 24. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 20, wherein the alkyl moiety of R1 is a C2 alkyl group.
- 25. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 21, wherein the alkyl moiety of R1 is a C1-C8 alkyl group.

- 28. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R1 represents a C1-C22 alkyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group C.
- 29. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 28, wherein R1 represents a C1-C18 alkyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group C.

A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R1 represents a C2-C22 alkenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents, said one or more substituents are selected from those listed in groups (2) or (3) in the definition of R1 in claim 1, or a substituent selected from said Substituent Group C.
- 31. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 30, wherein R1 represents a C2-C22 alkenyl group which has no substituent.
- 32. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 30, wherein R1 represents a C2-C18 alkenyl group which has no substituent.
- 33. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R1 is represented by the formula (a), in which n represents an integer from 1 to 20 and m represents 0 or 2.
- 34. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 33, wherein n represents an integer from 4 to 8.
- 35. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 33, wherein m represents 0 and n represents an integer from 4 to 8.

A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R2 represents a hydrogen atom, a C1-C22 alkyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group C or a C2-C22 alkenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group C.
- 37. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R2 represents a hydrogen atom, a C1-C22 alkyl group which has no substituent or a C2-C22 alkenyl group which has no substituent.
- 38. A compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R2 represents a hydrogen atom, a C6- C20 alkyl group which has no substituent or a C10-C20 alkenyl group which has no substituent.
- 39. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C6- C20 alkyl group which has no substituent.
- 40. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R2 represents a hydrogen atom.
- 41. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein R3 represents a hydroxyl group.
- 42. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein:
X1 is represented by the formula —N(R4)—; X2 is represented by the formula —N(R5)—; R1 represents (2) a C6-C10 aryl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A; a C1-C14 alkyl group which is substituted with one to three C6-C10 aryl groups which are the same or different and each is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents selected from said Substituent Group A; a C1-C14 alkyl group which is substituted with one to three heterocyclic groups which are the same or different and each have 1-4 ring nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen atoms and are unsubstituted or have one or more substituents selected from said Substituent Group B; a C1-C22 alkyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group C; a C2-C22alkenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents, said one or more substituents are selected from those listed in groups (2) or (3) in the definition of R1 in claim 1, or from said Substituent Group C, or a group of formula (a); R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C6-C20 alkyl group which has no substituent and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group.
- 43. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein:
X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH—; R1 represents a C6-C10 aryl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A; a C1-C14 alkyl group which is substituted with one to three C6-C10 aryl groups which are the same or different and each may have one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A; a C1-C14 alkyl group which is substituted with one to three heterocyclic groups which are the same or different and each have 1-4 ring nitrogen, sulfur or oxygen atoms and are unsubstituted or have one or more substituents from said Substituent Group B; a C1-C22alkyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents selected from said Substituent Group C; a C2-C22 alkenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents, said one or more substituents are selected from those listed in groups (2) or (3) in the definition of R1 in claim 1, or a substituent selected from said Substituent Group C, or a group of formula (a); R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C6-C20 alkyl group which has no substituent; and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group.
- 44. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein:
X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH—; R1 represents a C6-C10 aryl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A; a C1-C22 alkyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group C, or a C2-C22 alkenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group C; R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C6-C20 alkyl group which has no substituent; and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group.
- 45. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein:
X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH—; R1 represents a C6-C10 aryl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A or a C1-C22 alkyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group C; R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C6-C20 alkyl group which has no substituent; and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group.
- 46. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein:
X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH—; R1 represents a C6-C10 aryl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A; R2 represents a hydrogen atom or a C6-C20 alkyl group which has no substituent; and R3 represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxyl group.
- 47. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein:
X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH—; R1 represents a phenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A; R2 represents a hydrogen atom; and R3 represents a hydroxyl group.
- 48. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein:
X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH—; R1 represents a phenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A; R2 represents a C6-C20 alkyl group which has no substituent; and R3 represents a hydrogen atom.
- 49. A compound, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1, wherein:
X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH—; R1 represents a phenyl group which is unsubstituted or has one or more substituents from said Substituent Group A; and R2 and R3 represent hydrogen atoms.

A compound according to claim 50, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof, wherein R1 represents a 3-trifluoromethyl-4-fluorophenyl group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom, X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH— and R3 represents a hydroxyl group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

A compound according to claim 50, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof, wherein R1 represents a 3-trifluoromethyl4-fluorophenyl group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom, X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH— and R3 represents a decanoyloxy group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

A compound according to claim 50, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof, wherein R1 represents a 3-nitrophenyl group, R2 represents a hydrogen atom, X1 and X2 are represented by the formula —NH— and R3 represents a decanoyloxy group, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

A pharmaceutical composition for the prevention or treatment of a bacterial infection comprising as an active ingredient an antibacterially effective amount of a compound of the formula (I) according to claim 1, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

A pharmaceutical composition for the prevention or treatment of a bacterial infection comprising as an active ingredient an antibacterially effective amount of a compound of the formula (I′) according to claim 50, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

A method for the treatment or prevention of a bacterial infection which comprises administering to a warm-blooded animal an antibacterially effective amount of a compound of formula (I) according to claim 1, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 80. A method according to claim 79, wherein the warm-blooded animal is a human.
- 81. A method according to claim 80, wherein the bacterial infection is an acid-fast bacterial infection.
- 82. A method according to claim 80, wherein the bacterial infection is a Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.
- 83. A method according to claim 80, wherein the method is for the treatment of a bacterial infection.
- 84. A method for the treatment or prevention of a bacterial infection which comprises administering to a warm-blooded animal an antibacterially effective amount of a compound of formula (I′) according to claim 50, a pharmaceutically acceptable ester, ether or N-alkyl derivative thereof or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 85. A method according to claim 84, wherein the warm-blooded animal is a human.
- 86. A method according to claim 85, wherein the bacterial infection is an acid-fast bacterial infection.
- 87. A method according to claim 85, wherein the bacterial infection is a Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.
- 88. A method according to claim 85, wherein the method is for the treatment of a bacterial infection.
- 89. A method according to claim 85, wherein the compound is selected from the group consisting of
