Claims
- 1. Process for the production of daunorubicin, which comprises cultivating aerobically by the submerged culture technique a microorganism selected from the class consisting of Streptomyces coeruleorubidus, NRRL 3045 and 3046, in a liquid nutrient medium, of initial pH 6.0 to 7.8 and at 23.degree. to 35.degree. C., containing assimilable sources of carbon, nitrogen, and mineral salts with an aeration rate of 0.3 to 2 liters of sterile air per minute per liter of medium until substantial antibiotic activity is produced by the said microorganism in the said medium, recovering an orange-red antibiotic mixture containing daunorubicin from the medium, and isolating daunorubicin from the said orange-red antibiotic mixture.
- 2. Process as claimed in claim 1 in which the pH of the nutrient medium at the beginning of culture is between 6.5 and 7.5.
- 3. Process as claimed in claim 1 in which the temperature of the culture is 25.degree.-28.degree. C.
- 4. Process according to claim 1 in which daunorubicin is isolated from the antibiotic mixture by a distribution process.
- 5. Process according to claim 4 in which the daunorubicin is isolated by countercurrent distribution.
