Claims
- 1. The antibiotic Compound 48,926 which is soluble in chloroform, ethyl acetate and methylisobutyl ketone; insoluble in heptane, hexane and water; has an optical rotation of [.alpha.].sub.D =+413.degree. at a concentration of 0.097% in chloroform; an average composition by weight of 55.76% carbon, 5.39% hydrogen, 5.36% nitrogen and 33.49% oxygen (by difference); absorption maxima in methanol in the ultraviolet light region of the spectrum at 211, 218.sub.sh, 240.sub.sh, 295.sub.sh, 304 and 500 nm with E.sub.1 cm.sup.1% values of 615, 543, 313, 322, 339 and 17, respectively; and when pelleted in KBr, exhibits characteristic absorption in the infrared region at the following wavelengths in microns: 2.93, 3.38, 5.74, 5.87, 5.95, 6.03, 6.23, 6.42, 6.82, 7.50 and 8.40.
- 2. The antibiotic Compound 48,927 which is soluble in chloroform, ethyl acetate and methylisobutyl ketone; insoluble in heptane, hexane and water; has an optical rotation of [.alpha.].sub.D =+513.degree. at a concentration of 0.101% in chloroform; an average composition by weight of 55.03% carbon, 4.95% hydrogen, 5.06% nitrogen and 34.96% oxygen (by difference); absorption maxima in methanol in the ultraviolet light region of the spectrum at 240.sub.sh, 296.sub.sh, 303 and 500 nm with E.sub.1 cm.sup.1% values of 338, 358, 367 and 20, respectively; and when pelleted in KBr, exhibits characteristic absorption in the infrared region at the following wavelengths in microns: 2.94, 3.39, 5.74, 5.90, 6.04, 6.12, 6.24, 6.80, 7.50, 8.40 and 10.20.
- 3. A process for producing an antibiotic complex which comprises cultivating the microorganism A. deccanensis ATCC 31355 in aqueous culture media containing an assimilable source of carbon, nitrogen and inorganic salts until substantial antibiotic activity is obtained.
- 4. The antibiotic complex produced by the process of claim 3.
- 5. A process according to claim 3 wherein said antibiotic complex is separated from the fermentation medium.
