Claims
- 1. A surface coating based on an alkyd, acrylic, melamine, polyurethane, epoxy or polyester resin, mixtures of such resins, vinyl resins, cellulose esters, chlorinated rubbers, phenolic resins, styrene/butadiene copolymers or drying oils, containing, as corrosion inhibitor, at least one compound of the formula I: ##STR18## in which R is hydrogen, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 halogenoalkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkoxy, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkylthio, phenylthio, benzylthio, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkylsulfonyl, phenyl, --NO.sub.2, --CN, --COOH, --COO(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl), --OH, --NH.sub.2, --NHR.sub.8, --N(R.sub.8).sub.2, --CONH.sub.2, --CONHR.sub.8 or --CON(R.sub.8).sub.2, R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, phenyl, phenyl substituted by halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy or --NO.sub.2, pyridyl, thienyl or furyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or phenyl, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 independently of the other are H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.20 alkoxy, --NO.sub.2, --CN, --COOH, --COO(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl), phenyl, halogen or a group of formula II: ##STR19## or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 together are a group --CH.dbd.CH--CH.dbd.CH--, R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are hydrogen or halogen and R.sub.8 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl, C.sub.3 -C.sub.12 alkyl interrupted by one or more --O--, C.sub.5 -C.sub.8 cycloalkyl, benzyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy or --NO.sub.2, or --N(R.sub.8).sub.2 is a pyrrolidino, piperidino or morpholino group.
- 2. A surface coating according to claim 1 containing at least one compound of formula I in which R is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, --CF.sub.3, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, halogen, --NO.sub.2, --COOH or --COO(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl), R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, phenyl or tolyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or phenyl, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 independently of the other are H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, --NO.sub.2, --CN, --COO(C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl), halogen or a group of formula II, or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 together are a group --CH.dbd.CH--CH.dbd.CH--, and R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are hydrogen or halogen.
- 3. A surface coating according to claim 1 containing at least one compound of formula I in which R is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy or halogen, R.sub.1 is hydrogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl or phenyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen or phenyl, R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 independently of the other are H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl, C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkoxy, halogen or a group of formula II, or R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 together are a group --CH.dbd.CH--CH.dbd.CH--, and R.sub.5, R.sub.6 and R.sub.7 are hydrogen or fluorine.
- 4. A surface coating according to claim 1 containing at least one compound of formula I in which R is hydrogen.
- 5. A surface coating according to claim 1 containing at least one compound of formula I in which R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl and R.sub.2 is hydrogen.
- 6. A surface coating according to claim 1 containing 0.5 to 5% by weight, based on the solids content of the surface coating, of at least one compound of formula I.
- 7. A surface coating according to claim 1 which is a primer for metallic substrates.
- 8. A surface coating according to claim 7 which is a primer for iron, steel, copper, zinc or aluminium.
- 9. A surface coating according to claim 1 which is water-based.
- 10. A surface coating according to claim 9 which can be deposited cathodically.
- 11. A surface coating according to claim 1 based on an alkyd, acrylic, melamine, polyurethane, epoxy or polyester resin or a mixture of such resins.
