A process for combatting microorganisms selected from the group consisting of gram-positive bacteria, gramnegative bacteria, fungi and algae which consists in contacting said microorganisms with a toxic amount of a .omega.-aminocarboxylic acid amide of the formula ##STR17## wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue having from 10 to 14 carbon atoms selected from the group consisting of alkyl and alkenyl, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are members selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, methyl, --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 OH, --CH.sub.2 --CHOH--CH.sub.3 and --CH.sub.2 --CHOH--CH.sub.2 OH, and n is an integer from 1 to 10, and their toxicologically-unobjectable acid addition salts.
- 2. The process of claim 1 wherein said microorganisms are algae.
- 3. The process of claim 1 wherein said microorganisms are in aqueous suspension and said .omega.-aminocarboxylic acid amide is employed in an amount of from 0.5 mgm to 50 mgm per liter of said aqueous suspension.
