Claims
- 1. An antiperch device for birds comprising a series of elongated wires, said wires being fixed at their opposite ends in relation to an object to be protected with each wire arranged in an arc over the object to be protected, said wires having sufficient stiffness to keep the birds from reaching the object to be protected but also being sufficiently flexible and having a small enough diameter that the birds cannot obtain a secure footing on the wires.
- 2. The antiperch device of claim 1 wherein the wires are spaced sufficiently close to one another so as to prevent the birds from perching between them.
- 3. The antiperch device of claim 1 wherein the wire is 0.062″ or {fraction (1/16)}″ diameter type 302 or 304 stainless steel spring wire.
- 4. The antiperch device of claim 1 wherein the wire is 0.063″ diameter type 316 stainless steel spring wire.
- 5. An antiperch device for birds for protecting the surface of an object comprising an elongated wire having a major portion of its length arranged parallel to said surface of the object and spaced above the object, said wire having sufficient stiffness to keep the birds from reaching the object but also being sufficiently flexible and having a small enough diameter that the bird cannot obtain a secure footing on the wires.
- 6. The antiperch device of claim 5 wherein the elongated wire includes a pair of mounting portions each extending perpendicularly from an opposite end of said major portion, said elongated wire further including a loop extending from the end of the mounting portion and a clamp securing the loop to the object for mounting the elongated wire on the object.
- 7. The antiperch device for birds of claim 5 wherein the elongated wire includes a mounting portion including first and second side-by-side wire sections, a loop on said mounting portion, said mounting portion extending perpendicularly from said major portion toward said loop which extends parallel to said major portion, said loop providing means for securing a mounting clamp to the antiperch device.
- 8. The antiperch device for birds of claim 7 wherein the first and second side-by-side wire sections are twisted together adjacent the major portions to provide strength and stiffness to the antiperch device.
- 9. The antiperch device for birds of claim 7 wherein the first and second side-by-side wire sections are welded together adjacent the major portion to provide strength and stiffness to the antiperch device.
- 10. The antiperch device for birds of claim 5 wherein the elongated wire includes a pair of mounting portions each extending perpendicularly from an opposite end of said major portion, said elongated wire further including a pair of L-shaped portions extending from the distal ends of said mounting portions, each L-shaped portion having one leg parallel to said major portion and its other leg perpendicular to said one leg.
- 11. An antiperch device for birds for mounting on an object to prevent birds from perching on the object comprising a first elongated wire having a major portion formed in an elongated snowshoe shape, said major portion being arranged in a plane which is adapted to be parallel to the surface of the object and spaced above the object, a second elongated wire having a second major portion located centrally of said snowshoe shape and extending longitudinally of said snowshoe shape, said second wire being welded to said first wire, at least one third elongated wire having a third major portion extending across said snowshoe shape and welded to said first and second wires, said wires having sufficient stiffness to keep the birds from reaching the object but also being sufficiently flexible and having a small enough diameter that the birds cannot obtain a secure footing on the wires.
- 12. The antiperch device of claim 11 wherein each elongated wire includes a pair of mounting portions each extending perpendicularly from an opposite end of said major portion, each elongated wire further including a loop extending from the end of the mounting portion, and screws received in said loops and securing the wires to said object.
- 13. The antiperch device of claim 11 wherein each elongated wire includes a pair of mounting portions each extending perpendicularly from an opposite end of said major portion and secured to said object.
- 14. The antiperch device of claim 12, wherein said wires are 0.062″ or {fraction (1/16)}″ diameter type 302 or 304 stainless steel spring wire.
- 15. The antiperch device of claim 12, wherein said wires are 0.063″ diameter type 316 stainless steel spring wire.
- 16. An antiperch device for birds for mounting on an object to prevent birds from perching on the object comprising a first elongated wire having a major portion formed in an elongated snowshoe shape, said major portion being arranged in a plane which is adapted to be parallel to the surface of the object and spaced above the object, a second elongated wire having a second major portion located centrally of said snowshoe shape and extending longitudinally of said snowshoe shape, said second wire being welded to said first wire, a third elongated wire, a fourth elongated wire, said third and fourth elongated wires each having a major portion, said major portions of third and fourth wires crossing each other and being welded to said first elongated wire, said wires having sufficient stiffness to keep the birds from reaching the object but also being sufficiently flexible and having a small enough diameter that the birds cannot obtain a secure footing on the wires.
- 17. The antiperch device of claim 16 wherein each elongated wire includes a pair of mounting portions each extending perpendicularly from an opposite end of said major portion of the respective elongated wire and adapted to mount the antiperch device on the object.
- 18. The antiperch device of claim 17, wherein said wires are 0.062″ or {fraction (1/16)}″ diameter type 302 or 304 stainless steel spring wire.
- 19. The antiperch device of claim 17, wherein said wires are 0.063″ diameter type 316 stainless steel spring wire.
- 20. An antiperch device for birds for mounting on an object to prevent birds from perching on the object comprising a first elongated wire which is curved into a circular shape, a second elongated wire, a third elongated wire, said second and third elongated wires each having a major portion which cross each other and are welded to said first elongated wire, each of said second and third elongated wires including a pair of mounting portions each extending perpendicularly from an opposite end of said major portion of said elongated wire and adapted to mount the antiperch device on the object with the circular shape located in a plane spaced above said object, said wires having sufficient stiffness to keep the birds from reaching the object but also being sufficiently flexible and having a small enough diameter that the birds cannot obtain a secure footing on the wires.
- 21. The antiperch device of claim 20 wherein said major portions of said second and third elongated wires are perpendicular to one another.
- 22. The antiperch device of claim 20 additionally comprising a fourth elongated wire having a major portion which crosses the major portions of said second and third elongated wires, said major portions of said second, third and fourth elongated wires being arranged at sixty degree angles to one another.
- 23. The antiperch device of claim 21 or 22 wherein the wires are spaced sufficiently close to one another so as to prevent the birds from perching between them.
- 24. The antiperch device of claim 23 wherein said wires are 0.062″ or {fraction (1/16)}″ diameter type 302 or 304 stainless steel spring wire.
- 25. The antiperch device of claim 23, wherein said wires are 0.063″ diameter type 316 stainless steel spring wire.
- 26. An antiperch device for birds for mounting on an object to prevent birds from perching on the object comprising a plurality of wires each having a straight major portion, each of said major portions being parallel to one another and arranged in an equally spaced series which defines a plane which is adapted to be parallel to the surface of the object and spaced above the object, each of said wires including a first mounting portion and a second mounting portion, each of said first mounting portions being parallel to one another and arranged in an equally spaced series which defines a plane, each of said second mounting portions being parallel to one another and arranged in an equally spaced series which defines a plane, a first wire adapted to be positioned at the surface of the object and welded to said first mounting portions and a second wire adapted to be positioned at the surface of the object and welded to said second mounting portions.
- 27. The antiperch device of claim 26 wherein said wires have sufficient stiffness to keep the birds from reaching the object but also are sufficiently flexible and have a small enough diameter that the birds cannot obtain a secure footing on the wires.
- 28. The antiperch device of claim 27 wherein the wires are spaced sufficiently close to one another so as to prevent the birds from perching between them.
- 29. The antiperch device of claim 28, wherein said wires are 0.062″ or {fraction (1/16)}″ diameter type 302 or 304 stainless steel spring wire.
- 30. The antiperch device of claim 28, wherein said wires are 0.063″ diameter type 316 stainless steel spring wire.
- 31. An antiperch device for birds for mounting on an object to prevent birds from perching on the object comprising a plurality of wires each having a straight major portion, a first mounting portion and a second mounting portion; each of said wires having its first mounting portion and second mounting portion parallel to one another located at the opposite ends of the major portion of the wire, at least one tube receiving therein the first mounting portions of two wires of said plurality of wires whereby said two wires are capable of pivoting relative to each other, said first mounting portions each having feet retaining said mounting portions within said tube, said feet being bendable so as to flatten against said tube to lock the major portions of said two wires at a desired pivoted angle relative to one another.
- 32. The antiperch device of claim 31 wherein said wires have sufficient stiffness to keep the birds from reaching the object but also are sufficiently flexible and have a small enough diameter that the birds cannot obtain a secure footing on the wires.
- 33. The antiperch device of claim 31 wherein the wires are spaced sufficiently close to one another so as to prevent the birds from perching between them.
- 34. The antiperch device of claim 31, wherein said wires are 0.062″ or {fraction (1/16)}″ diameter type 302 or 304 stainless steel spring wire.
- 35. The antiperch device of claim 31, wherein said wires are 0.063″ diameter type 316 stainless steel spring wire.
- 36. The antiperch device of claim 5 wherein the major portion is straight.
- 37. The antiperch device of claim 5 wherein the major portion is formed to the shape of the object to be protected.
- 38. The antiperch device of claim 5 wherein the elongated wire includes a pair of mounting portions each extending perpendicularly from an opposite end of said major portion, and plastic inserts adapted to receive said mounting portions for mounting on the object to be protected.
- 39. The antiperch device of claim 5 wherein the major portion is arranged so as to extend at an angle to the vertical.
- 40. The antiperch device of claim 5 wherein the wire is 0.062″ or {fraction (1/16)}″ diameter type 302 or 304 stainless steel spring wire.
- 41. The antiperch device of claim 5 wherein the wire is 0.063″ diameter type 316 stainless steel spring wire.
- 42. The antiperch device of claim 7 wherein the first and second side-by-side wire sections are clamped or clipped together adjacent the major portion to provide strength and stiffness to the antiperch device.
- 43. The antiperch device of claim 5 wherein the elongated wire includes a pair of mounting portions each extending perpendicularly from an opposite end of said major portion, each of said mounting portions having a foot extending therefrom.
- 44. An antiperch device comprising a pair of the antiperch devices as defined in claim 43 wherein said feet include legs that are spaced inwardly of the respective wires whereby a single screw and washer may be used to secure a pair of said legs to the object to be protected with respective mounting portions of the two devices parallel to and adjacent one another.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to apparatus for preventing, discouraging and/or deterring birds from landing on undesired perch locations and claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 60/190,694 filed Mar. 20, 2000.
