Claims
- 1. A method for prophylaxis or treatment of a rhinovirus infection which comprises administering to a host susceptible to rhinovirus infection an antirhinovirus effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR8## wherein Y is a bond; R.sub.1 is hydrogen or straight or branched lower alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and R is straight or branched saturated hydrocarbon having from 6 to 20 carbon atoms or straight or branched unsaturated hydrocarbon having from 6 to 20 carbon atoms and from 1 to 4 double bonds when R has from 10 to 20 carbon atoms and 1 or 2 double bonds when R has from 6 to 9 carbon atoms.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the R-Y- group is attached at the meta or para positions of the phenyl ring.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the R-Y- group is attached at the para position of the phenyl ring.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein R.sub.1 is straight or branched lower alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
- 5. The method of claim 4 wherein R.sub.1 is straight chain alkyl.
