Claims
- 1. A display element comprising a substantially transparent substrate, a hardcoat layer comprising inorganic oxide particles dispersed in a binder matrix, and an antisoiling layer comprising a perfluoropolyether atop the hardcoat, the display element havinga) an ink repellency rating of at least 2 on a 6 point scale in which 0 corresponds to completely wettable, 2 corresponds to intermittently wettable and 6 corresponds to completely unwettable, b) at least a 2 rub cycle cheesecloth durability rating and c) at least a 7 rub cycle steel wool durability rating.
- 2. An element according to claim 1 wherein the hardcoat comprises colloidal inorganic oxide particles dispersed in a free-radically cured binder.
- 3. An element according to claim 2 wherein the colloidal inorganic oxide particles comprise colloidal silica particles.
- 4. An element according to claim 1 wherein the binder is derived from one or more copolymerizable free-radically curable monomers, oligomers, polymers or combinations thereof.
- 5. An element according to claim 1 wherein the binder comprises a conductive polymer.
- 6. An element according to claim 1 wherein the antisoiling layer is derived from a perfluoropolyether having the formula:Y—(CaF2aO)b—CaF2a—Y wherein each Y comprises a polymerizable group attached to a chain of randomly distributed, —CaF2aO—, repeating units, wherein each a is independently 1 to 7, b is the number of such repeating units, and b has a value from 1 to 300 such that the perfluoropolyether has a number average molecular weight of about 500 to about 20,000.
- 7. An clement according to claim 1 wherein the perfluoropolyether comprises at least one of:(C2H5O)2CH3SiC3H6NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHC3H6SiCH3(OC2H5)2, (C2H5O)3SiC3H6NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHC3H6Si(OC2H5)3, F(CF(CF3)CF2O)25CF2CF3, C4H9NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHC4H9, CH2═CHCOOC2H4NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHC2H4OOCCH═CH2, CH2═CHCOOCH2(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CH2OOCCH═CH2, (HOCH2)2CH2NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHCH2(CH2OH)2, (C2H5O)3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2CF2O)8CF2CONH(CH2)3Si(OC2H5)3, (C2H5O)2CH3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2CF2O)8CF2CONH(CH2)3SiCH3(OC2H5)2, (C2H5O)2CH3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2CF2O)14CF2CONH(CH2)3SiCH3(OC2H5)2, (C2H5O)3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2C(CF3)FO)12CF2CONH(CH2)3Si(OC2H5)3, (C2H5O)2CH3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2C(CF3)FO)12CF2CONH(CH2)3SiCH3(OC2H5)2, or
- 8. An element according to claim 1 wherein the hardcoat layer has a thickness of from about 1 micrometer to about 100 micrometers and the antisoiling layer has a thickness of about 0.005 to about 2 micrometers.
- 9. An element according to claim 1 further comprising a substantially transparent adhesive layer.
- 10. An element according to claim 9 wherein the adhesive is non-tacky with respect to skin.
- 11. An element according to claim 1 wherein the substrate has two major sides wit the hardcoat and the antisoiling layer on one such side and an adhesive layer on the other such side.
- 12. An element according to claim 1 further comprising a personal digital assistant, cell phone, touch-sensitive screen, wrist watch, car navigation system, global positioning system, depth finder, calculator, electronic book, CD player, DVD player, projection television screen, computer monitor, notebook computer display or instrument gauge.
- 13. A screen protector for an information display, comprising a flexible substantially transparent generally planar substrate having on one side thereof an adhesive layer and having on the other side thereof a hardcoat layer comprising inorganic oxide particles dispersed in a binder matrix and an antisoiling layer comprising a perfluoropolyether atop the hardcoat, the screen protector havinga) an ink repellency rating of at least 2 on a 6 point scale in which 0 corresponds to completely wettable, 2 corresponds to intermittently wettable and 6 corresponds to completely unwettable, b) at least a 2 rub cycle cheesecloth durability rating and c) at least a 7 rub cycle steel wool durability rating.
- 14. A screen protector according to claim 13 wherein the antisoiling layer is derived from a perfluoropolyether having the formula:Y—(CaF2aO)b—CaF2a—Y wherein each Y comprises a polymerizable group attached to a chain of randomly distributed, —CaF2aO—, repeating units, wherein each a is independently 1 to 7, b is the number of such repeating units, and b has a value from 1 to 300 such that the perfluoropolyether has a number average molecular weight of about 500 to about 20,000.
- 15. A screen protector according to claim 13 having a roughened surface on the hardcoat side of the screen protector.
- 16. Screen protectors for a portable electronic device having a display screen, comprising a stack of flexible substantially transparent sheets, the sheets having on one side thereof an adhesive layer and having on the other side thereof a hardcoat layer comprising inorganic oxide particles dispersed in a binder matrix and an antisoiling layer comprising a perfluoropolyether atop the hardcoat, the stack being cut so that the sheets will fit the display screen.
- 17. Screen protectors according to claim 16 wherein the stack is adhered to a personal digital assistant or to a personal digital assistant cover or case.
- 18. Screen protectors according to claim 16 wherein the adhesive is non-tacky with respect to skin and the screen protector has a roughened surface on the hardcoat side of the screen protector.
- 19. An antisoiling hardcoated film, comprising a flexible generally planar substrate having on at least one side thereof a hardcoat layer comprising inorganic oxide particles dispersed in a binder matrix and an antisoiling layer comprising a perfluoropolyether atop the hardcoat.
- 20. A film according to claim 19 wherein the perfluoropolyether comprises at least one of:(C2H5O)2CH3SiC3H6NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHC3H6SiCH3(OC2H5)2, (C2H5O)3SiC3H6NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHC3H6Si(OC2H5)3, F(CF(CF3)CF2O)25CF2CF3, C4H9NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHC4H9, CH2═CHCOOC2H4NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHC2H4OOCCH═CH2, CH2═CHCOOCH2(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CH2OOCCH═CH2, (HOCH2)2CH2NHCO(CF2O)15(C2F4O)13CF2CONHCH2(CH2OH)2, (C2H5O)3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2CF2O)8CF2CONH(CH2)3Si(OC2H5)3, (C2H5O)2CH3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2CF2O)8CF2CONH(CH2)3SiCH3(OC2H5)2, (C2H5O)2CH3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2CF2O)14CF2CONH(CH2)3SiCH3(OC2H5)2, (C2H5O)3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2C(CF3)FO)12CF2CONH(CH2)3Si(OC2H5)3, (C2H5O)2CH3Si(CH2)3NHCO(CF2C(CF3)FO)12CF2CONH(CH2)3SiCH3(OC2H5)2, or
