Claims
- 1. A homopolymer or copolymer of acrylic or methacrylic acid esters which comprises acrylic or methacrylic acid ester monomer residues wherein the --O-- atom of the ester functional group is bonded to a moiety of the formula --R.sup.22 --O--CO--C.sub.m H.sub.n X.sub.o.sup.2 wherein m is a number from 1 to 12, n is 0 or a number from 1 to 24, o is a number from 1 to 25 and n+o=2m+1, X.sup.2 is Cl, Br or I and R.sup.22 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 alkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 cycloalkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 cycloalkylene--CH.sub.2 --, C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 cycloalkylene--(CH.sub.2).sub.2 --, benzylene or xylylene which are unsubstituted or substituted by OH, Cl, Br or phenyl.
- 2. A homopolymer or copolymer according to claim 1 which comprises
- a) 0.1 to 100 mol % of at least one structural unit of formula III ##STR34## and b) 0 to 99.9 mol % of at least one structural unit of formula IV ##STR35## based on the polymer, wherein R.sup.17 is H or methyl; R.sup.18 is a radical --R.sup.22 --O--CO.sub.2 C.sub.m H.sub.n X.sub.o.sup.2, wherein z is 1, m is a number from 1 to 12, n is 0 or a number from 1 to 24, o is a number from 1 to 25 and n+o=2m+1, X.sup.2 is Cl, Br or I and R.sup.22 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 alkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 cycloalkylene, C.sub.4 -C.sub.12 cycloalkylene--CH.sub.2 --, C.sub.2 -C.sub.12 cycloalkylene--CH.sub.2 --.sub.2, benzylene or xylylene which is unsubstituted or substituted by OH, Cl, Br or phenyl; R.sup.19 is H, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl or --COOR.sup.23 ; R.sup.20 is H, F, Cl, CN or C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl; and R.sup.21 is H, F, Cl, CN, R.sup.23 --O--, C.sub.1 - C.sub.12 alkyl, --COOR.sup.23, --O--CO--R.sup.23, --COOR.sup.22 --OH, ##STR36## or phenyl, R.sup.22 being as defined above and R.sup.23 being C.sub.1 -C.sub.18 alkyl, C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl)-C.sub.5 -C.sub.7 cycloalkyl, phenyl, (C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl)phenyl, benzyl or (C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 alkyl)benzyl.
- 3. A homopolymer or copolymer according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.17 is methyl; R.sup.18 is a radical --R.sup.22 --O--CO--C.sub.m H.sub.n X.sub.o.sup.2, wherein m is a number from 1 to 6, n is 0 or a number from 1 to 12, o is a number from 1 to 13 and n+o=2m+1, X.sup.2 is Cl and R.sup.22 is C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene, cyclopentylene, cyclohexylene, cyclopentylene--CH.sub.2 --, cyclohexylene--CH.sub.2 -- or cyclohexylene--CH.sub.2 --.sub.2 which is unsubstituted or substituted by OH or Cl; R.sup.19 is H; R.sup.20 is H, F, Cl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl; and R.sup.21 is H, F, Cl, CN, R.sup.23 --O--, C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, --COOR.sup.23, --O--CO--R.sup.23, --COOR.sup.22 --OH, ##STR37## or phenyl, R.sup.22 being as defined above and R.sup.23 being C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, C.sub.5 or C.sub.6 cycloalkyl, phenyl or benzyl.
- 4. A homopolymer or copolymer according to claim 1, wherein R.sup.22 is linear or ranched C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene, X.sup.2 is Cl, m is a number from 1 to 4, n is 0 or a number from 1 to 8, o is a number from 1 to 9 and n+o=2m+1.
- 5. A homopolymer or copolymer according to claim 4, wherein the group --C.sub.m H.sub.n X.sub.o.sup.2, in the radical --R.sup.22 --O--CO--C.sub.m H.sub.n X.sub.o.sup.2, is --CH.sub.2 Cl, --CHCl.sub.2, --CCl.sub.3, --CHClCH.sub.3, --CCl.sub.2 CH.sub.3 --CHCl--CH.sub.2 Cl, --CCl.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 Cl, --CHCl--CHCl.sub.2, --CCl.sub.2 --CHCl.sub.2, --CCl.sub.2 --CCl.sub.3, --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 Cl, --CH.sub.2 --CHCl.sub.2 or --CH.sub.2 --CCl.sub.3.
- 6. A homopolymer or copolymer of claim 2 wherein R.sup.22 is linear or branched alkylene containing 2 to 6 carbon atoms or cyclohexylene and R.sup.22 is unsubstituted or substituted by OH or Cl.
- 7. A homopolymer or copolymer of claim 2 wherein R.sup.17 is methyl, m is a number from 1 to 4, n is 0 or a number from 1 to 8, o is a number from 1 to 13, X.sup.2 is Cl and R.sup.22 is linear C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene or --CH.sub.2 CHOHCH.sub.2 --, R.sup.19 and R.sup.20 are H, R.sup.21 is --COOR.sup.22 OH or --COOR.sup.23 and R.sup.23 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl.
- 8. A homopolymer or copolymer of claim 2 wherein R.sup.22 is linear or branched C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene, cyclopentylene or cyclohexylene, R.sup.19 is H, R.sup.20 is H or methyl, R.sup.21 is --COOR.sup.23 or --COOR.sup.22 OH and R.sup.23 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl.
- 9. A homopolymer or copolymer of claim 2 which consists essentially 20 to 100 mol % of structural units of formula III and 0 to 80 mol % of structural units of formula IV.
- 10. A homopolymer or copolymer of claim 9 wherein R.sup.22 is a linear or branched alkylene containing 2 to 6 carbon atoms or cyclohexylene and R.sup.22 is unsubstituted or substituted by OH or Cl.
- 11. A homopolymer or copolymer of claim 9 wherein R.sup.17 is methyl, m is a number from 1 to 4, n is 0 or a number from 1 to 8, o is a number from 1 to 9, X.sup.2 is Cl and R.sup.22 is linear C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene or --CH.sub.2 CHOHCH.sub.2 --, R.sup.19 and R.sup.20 are H, R.sup.21 is --COOR.sup.22 OH or --COOR.sup.23 and R.sup.23 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl.
- 12. A homopolymer or copolymer of claim 9 wherein R.sup.22 is linear or branched C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkylene, cyclopentylene or cyclohexylene, R.sup.19 is H, R.sup.20 is H or methyl, R.sup.21 is --COOR.sup.23 or --COOR.sup.22 OH and R.sup.23 is C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkyl, cyclopentyl or cyclohexyl.
- 13. A homopolymer or copolymer of claim 9 which consists essentially of 30 to 100 mol % of structural units of formula III and 0 to 70 mol % of structural units of formula IV.
