Claims
- 1. A therapeutic composition in dosage unit form comprising a solid or sterile liquid pharmaceutical carrier and from about 1 to 500 milligrams of a compound of the formula: ##STR3## wherein: Formula I includes individual geometrical isomers and mixtures thereof,
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen or alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms;
- and R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are each hydrogen or an alkanoyl group containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms with the proviso that one of R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is an alkanoyl group.
- 2. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein at least one of R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is acetyl.
- 3. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein at least one of R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is propionyl.
- 4. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein at least one of R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is pivalyl.
- 5. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein both R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are alkanoyl groups.
- 6. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein both R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are acetyl groups.
- 7. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein the compound is N-mono or N,N-di-acetylated 5-(3',4',5'-trimethoxybenzal) hydantoin.
- 8. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein the compound is N-mono or N,N-di-acetylated 5-(3',5'-dimethoxybenzal) hydantoin.
- 9. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein the compound is N-mono-acetylated 5-(3',4'-dimethoxybenzal) hydantoin.
- 10. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein the compound is N,N-diacetylated 5-(3',4'-dimethoxybenzal) hydantoin.
- 11. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein the compound is N-monoacetylated 5-(2',4',5'-trimethoxybenzal) hydantoin.
- 12. The therapeutic composition of claim 1 wherein the compound is N,N-diacetylated 5-(2',4',5'-trimethoxybenzal) hydantoin.
- 13. A therapeutic composition in dosage unit form for oral administration comprising tablets, pills, capsules, granules, powders or syrups containing a pharmaceutical carrier and from about 1 to 500 milligrams of a compound of the formula: ##STR4## wherein: Formula I includes individual geometrical isomers and mixtures thereof,
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen or alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms;
- and R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are each hydrogen or an alkanoyl group containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms with the proviso that one of R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is an alkanoyl group.
- 14. A therapeutic composition for parenteral administration comprising a sterile liquid pharmaceutical carrier containing from about 0.05 to 0.10% of a compound of the formula; ##STR5## wherein: Formula I includes individual geometrical isomers and mixtures thereof,
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen or alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms;
- and R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are each hydrogen or an alkanoyl group containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms with the proviso that one of R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is an alkanoyl group.
- 15. A therapeutic composition in dosage unit form comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable oil or water-oil emulsion containing from about 1 to 500 milligrams of a compound of the formula: ##STR6## wherein: Formula I includes individual geometrical isomers and mixtures thereof,
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen or alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms;
- and R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are each hydrogen or an alkanoyl group containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms with the proviso that one of R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is an alkanoyl group.
- 16. A therapeutic composition comprising a saline solution containing from about 0.05 to 0.10% of a compound of the formula: ##STR7## wherein: Formula I includes individual geometrical isomers and mixtures thereof,
- R.sub.1 is hydrogen or alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are each alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms;
- and R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 are each hydrogen or an alkanoyl group containing from 1 to 20 carbon atoms with the proviso that one of R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 is an alkanoyl group.
