Claims
- 1. A system for deodorizing air and/or emitting one or more substances into the air comprising:
a first deodorizing and/or emitting device comprising an air moving member and a first passive deodorizing and/or emitting member configured for use with said air moving member, said first passive deodorizing and/or emitting member comprising a first medium, at least a portion of which comprises a first substance that serves to deodorize the air and/or is to be emitted into the air; one or more additional deodorizing and/or emitting members comprising passive deodorizing and/or emitting members comprising a medium, at least a portion of which comprises a second substance that serves to deodorize the air and/or is to be emitted into the air,
wherein said one or more additional deodorizing and/or emitting members can be used with said air moving member.
- 2. The system of claim 1 wherein said first and second substances are the same.
- 3. The system of claim 1 wherein said first and second substances comprise deodorizing substances comprising a first deodorizing substance and a second deodorizing substance, and said first and second deodorizing substances are different.
- 4. The system of claim 1 wherein said first and second substances comprise substances that are emitted into the air comprising a first emitting substance and a second emitting substance, and said first and second emitting substances are different.
- 5. The system of claim 1 wherein said first deodorizing and/or emitting device is battery powered.
- 6. A method for emitting one or more substances into the air comprising the steps of:
(a) providing a device comprising an air moving member and a first passive emitting member associated with said air moving member, said first passive emitting member comprising a substance to be emitted into the air; (b) providing a second passive emitting member comprising a substance to be emitted into the air, wherein said second passive emitting member is configured for use as a stand-alone emitting member and for use with said air moving member; (c) positioning said device in a first location to emit the substance therein into the air at said first location; and (d) positioning said second passive emitting member in a second location independent from the position of said first emitting member to emit the substance in said second emitting member into the air at said second location.
- 7. The method of claim 6 wherein said second passive emitting member can be used interchangeably with said first passive member.
- 8. The method of claim 6 wherein the substance in said first passive emitting member and the substance in the second passive emitting member are the same.
- 9. The method of claim 6 wherein the substance in said first passive emitting member and the substance in the second passive emitting member are different.
- 10. A kit comprising a self-contained, passive scent-emitting member which can be used on its own as a scent-emitting member and with an air moving member wherein said passive scent-emitting member has a stand-alone configuration and said kit further comprises instructions that instruct a user to use the passive scent-emitting member either on its own or with an air moving member.
- 11. A kit for deodorizing air and/or emitting one or more substances into the air, said kit comprising:
(a) an air moving member; (b) one or more passive deodorizing members configured for use as a stand-alone deodorizing member and for use with said air moving member; and (c) one or more passive substance emitting members configured for use as a stand-alone substance emitting member and for use with said air moving member.
- 12. The kit of claim 11 further comprising instructions for using said air moving member and said one or more passive deodorizing members, wherein said instructions advise a user to use either one of said one or more passive deodorizing members, or one of said one or more passive substance emitting members with said air moving member in a first location.
- 13. The kit of claim 12 wherein said instructions further instruct a user to use one or more passive deodorizing members, or one of said one or more passive substance emitting members in a second location independently of said air moving member.
- 14. An article for emitting a substance into the air, said article having an air flow path from an air inlet to an air outlet, said article comprising an emitting medium having an exposed surface area, said article having an air flow path through said emitting medium, around said emitting medium, or both, wherein said air flow path has a maximum cross-sectional area and said exposed surface area of said emitting medium is greater than or equal to about five times the maximum cross-sectional area of said air flow path.
- 15. The article of claim 14 further comprising a corrugated structure wherein said emitting medium is on said corrugated structure.
- 16. The article of claim 14 further comprising a honeycomb structure wherein said emitting medium is on said honeycomb structure.
- 17. An article for emitting a substance into the air, said article having an air flow path from an air inlet to an air outlet, said article comprising an emitting medium comprising a mass of gel comprised of one or more pieces of gel configured to fit together to form said mass of gel, wherein said mass of gel has at least one passageway therein to allow air to flow through said medium from said air inlet to said air outlet.
- 18. An article for emitting a substance into the air, said article having an air flow path from an air inlet to an air outlet, said article comprising an emitting medium in the configuration of a tube to allow air to flow through said medium from said air inlet to said air outlet.
- 19. The article of claim 18 wherein said emitting media comprises a gel.
- 20. The article of claim 18 wherein said emitting media comprises a helically-coiled structure.
- 21. An article for emitting a substance into the air, said article comprising:
a tube-shaped covering, said tube-shaped covering having an interior and an exterior, and at least one rupturable zone; and an emitting media disposed inside said tube-shaped covering.
- 22. The article of claim 21 wherein said rupturable zone is ruptured by twisting said tube-shaped covering.
- 23. The article of claim 21 wherein the emitting media comprises a gel.
- 24. The article of claim 21 wherein said tube-shaped covering is configured in the form of a helical coil.
- 25. A device for emitting one or more substances into the air, said device having an air flow path from an air inlet to an air outlet, said device comprising:
a passive member comprising a substance to be emitted arranged in interaction with the air flowing along said air flow path; an air moving member for moving air along said air flow path, wherein said passive member is associated with and detachable from said air moving member; and an intensity controlling mechanism comprising a part of at least one of said passive member and said air moving member.
- 26. The device of claim 25 wherein said intensity controlling mechanism comprises a mechanism for moving said passive emitting member apart from at least a portion of said air moving member.
- 27. The device of claim 25 wherein said intensity controlling mechanism comprises a mechanism for adjusting the volume of air that can flow through said air flow path.
- 28. The device of claim 27 wherein said mechanism for adjusting said air flow path comprises one or more elements that can be manipulated to restrict the flow of air through said air flow path.
- 29. The device of claim 25 wherein said intensity controlling mechanism comprises a component that covers a portion of the surface area of the scent-emitting media.
- 30. An article of manufacture for deodorizing air and emitting one or more substances into the air, said article of manufacture comprising a first medium and a second medium, said first medium comprising an air deodorizing medium and said second medium comprising a substance for emission into the air, wherein said first medium and said second medium are arranged so that only one of said first medium and said second medium is operative during a given time period.
- 31. The article of manufacture of claim 30 which is a passive member.
- 32. The article of manufacture of claim 30 which comprises a part of a device that comprises an air moving member.
- 33. A device for deodorizing air and emitting one or more substances into the air, said device having an air flow path from an air inlet to an air outlet, said device comprising:
a passive member comprising a first medium and a second medium, said first medium comprising an air deodorizing medium and said second medium comprising a substance for emission into the air, said passive member being arranged so that at least one of said first medium and said second medium can be positioned in interaction with the air flowing along said air flow path at any given time; and an air moving member for moving air along said air flow path, wherein said passive member is associated with and detachable from said air moving member that moves air through passive member and discharges such air.
- 34. The device of claim 33 wherein said passive member is configured so that said first medium and said second medium are in interaction with the air flowing along said air flow path at different times.
- 35. The device of claim 34 wherein said passive member comprises two or more compartments, and said first medium and said second medium are disposed in different compartments.
- 36. The device of claim 35 wherein said passive member is configured relative to the air flow so that at a given time, the air flow only passes through compartments containing air deodorizing media, or substances for emission into the air.
- 37. The device of claim 36 wherein the configuration is controlled manually.
- 38. The device of claim 36 wherein the configuration is controlled by a timer.
