Claims
- 1. An apparatus comprising:
a repeater including a receiver and a transmitter; and a position location device for determining a location of the repeater.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the position location device is integrated with the repeater.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the position location device is coupled to the repeater.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the position location device is coupled to the repeater by an external connection.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the position location device is a GPS receiver.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the position location device is a mobile station.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the position location device determines the location of the repeater based on radio-location signals received by the receiver.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the position location device determines the location of the repeater based on radio-location signals received by the position location device.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the location of the repeater is used to update a base station almanac.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the transmitter transmits the location of the repeater.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the transmitter transmits the location of the repeater to an external device to update a base station almanac.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the external device is a base station.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 11, wherein the external device is connected to a base station.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a base station.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein the base station receives the location of the repeater from the repeater.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 15, wherein the base station updates a base station almanac with the location of the repeater.
- 17. The repeater of claim 1, wherein the receiver and the transmitter are also used to repeat signals.
- 18. A repeater comprising:
a receiver including a position location device, wherein the position location device determines a location of the repeater based on radio-location signals received by the receiver; and a transmitter for transmitting the location of the repeater.
- 19. The repeater of claim 18, wherein the receiver and the transmitter are also used to repeat signals.
- 20. The repeater of claim 18, wherein the transmitter transmits the location of the repeater to an external device to update a base station almanac.
- 21. The repeater of claim 20, wherein the external device is a base station.
- 22. A repeater comprising:
a receiver for receiving signals; a position location device for determining a location of the repeater based on radio-location signals received by the position location device; and a transmitter for transmitting the received signals and the location of the repeater.
- 23. The repeater of claim 22, wherein the receiver and the transmitter are used to repeat signals.
- 24. The repeater of claim 22, wherein the transmitter transmits the location of the repeater to an external device to update a base station almanac.
- 25. The repeater of claim 24, wherein the external device is a base station.
- 26. The repeater of claim 24, wherein the external device is a base station controller.
- 27. The repeater of claim 22, wherein the transmitter transmits the location of the repeater to an external device for storage.
- 28. A repeater comprising:
means for receiving radio-location signals; means for determining a location of the repeater based on the radio-location signals; and means for transmitting the location of the repeater.
- 29. A repeater comprising:
a receiver for receiving signals; a position location device for determining a location of the repeater based on radio-location signals received by the position location device; and at least one memory device for storing the location of the repeater; a processor configured to retrieve the location of the repeater from the at least one memory device; and a transmitter for transmitting the received signals and the location of the repeater retrieved by the processor.
- 30. The repeater of claim 29, wherein the location of the repeater is manually entered into the repeater.
- 31. The repeater of claim 29, wherein the location of the repeater is entered into the repeater via another device.
- 32. The repeater of claim 29, wherein the processor retrieves the location of the repeater from the at least one memory device in response to a query.
- 33. The repeater of claim 29, wherein the receiver and the transmitter are used to repeat signals.
- 34. A system comprising:
a repeater including a position location device for determining a location of the repeater and a transmitter for transmitting the location of the repeater; and a base station for receiving the location of the repeater.
- 35. The system of claim 34, wherein the base station updates a base station almanac with the location of the repeater.
- 36. The system of claim 34, wherein the base station routes the location of the repeater to another device.
- 37. The system of claim 34, wherein the base station queries the repeater for the location of the repeater.
- 38. A method for determining a location of a repeater comprising the steps of:
receiving radio-location signals within the repeater; and determining the location of the repeater based on the radio-location signals received within the repeater.
- 39. The method of claim 38, wherein the receiving and determining steps are performed by the repeater.
- 40. The method of claim 38, wherein the radio-location signals include assistance data.
- 41. The method of claim 38, further comprising the step of transmitting the location of the repeater.
- 42. The method of claim 41, wherein the location of the repeater is transmitted by the repeater.
- 43. The method of claim 41, wherein the location of the repeater is transmitted by the repeater in response to a query.
- 44. The method of claim 41, wherein the location of the repeater is transmitted by the repeater during a predetermined time interval.
- 45. The method of claim 41, wherein the location of the repeater is transmitted by the repeater during initial initialization.
- 46. The method of claim 41, wherein the location of the repeater is transmitted by the repeater on an automated basis.
- 47. The method of claim 41, wherein the location of the repeater is transmitted to a base station.
- 48. The method of claim 41, further comprising the step of updating a base station almanac with the location of the repeater.
- 49. A method for determining a location of a repeater comprising the steps of:
receiving radio-location signals; determining the location of the repeater based on the radio-location signals; transmitting the location of the repeater; and updating a base station almanac with the location of the repeater.
- 50. A method for updating a location of a repeater comprising the steps of:
receiving a query for the location of the repeater; determining-the location of the repeater; and transmitting the location of the repeater.
- 51. The method of claim 50, wherein the query is sent by a base station.
- 52. The method of claim 50, wherein the location of the repeater is manually entered into the repeater.
- 53. The method of claim 50, wherein the determining and transmitting steps are performed by the repeater.
- 54. The method of claim 50, further comprising the step of updating a base station almanac with the location of the repeater.
- 55. A method for querying the location of a repeater comprising the steps of:
sending a query for the location of the repeater; and receiving the location from the repeater.
- 56. The method of claim 55, wherein the query is sent by a base station.
- 57. The method of claim 55, wherein the query is sent by a mobile station.
- 58. The system of claim 55, wherein the query is based on a predetermined time interval.
- 59. The system of claim 55, wherein the query is based on a performance criteria.
- 60. The system of claim 55, wherein the query is based on the deployment of a new repeater.
- 61. A method for storing the location of a repeater comprising the steps of:
receiving the location of the repeater from the repeater; and storing the location of the repeater.
- 62. The method of claim 61, wherein the location of the repeater is sent by the repeater in response to a query.
- 63. The method of claim 61, wherein the location of the repeater is sent by the repeater during a predetermined time interval.
- 64. The method of claim 61, wherein the location of the repeater is sent by the repeater during initialization.
- 65. The method of claim 61, wherein the location of the repeater is sent by the repeater on an automated basis.
- 66. The method of claim 61, wherein the receiving step includes a base station receiving the location of the repeater.
- 67. The method of claim 61, wherein the storing the location step includes storing the location of the repeater in a base station.
- 68. The method of claim 61, wherein the storing the location step includes updating a base station almanac.
