Claims
- 1. A method for lubricating a molding cavity of a glassware molding machine having associated parts that combine to form said molding cavity, which method comprises:
- (a) providing lubricant directing apparatus that includes a directing head;
- (b) moving said directing head into said molding cavity with said directing head spaced from the molding surface of said molding cavity;
- (c) directing a lubricant onto said molding surface of said molding cavity; and
- (d) said directing step comprises selectively depositing different lubricants onto different portions of said molding cavity.
- 2. A method for lubricating a molding cavity of a glassware molding machine having associated parts that combine to form said molding cavity, which method comprises:
- (a) providing lubricant directing apparatus that includes a directing head;
- (b) moving said directing head into said molding cavity with said directing head spaced from the molding surface of said molding cavity;
- (c) directing a lubricant onto said molding surface of said molding cavity; and
- (d) said directing step comprises selectively depositing a predetermined quantity of said lubricant onto selectively predetermined portions of said molding surface of said molding cavity.
- 3. A method for lubricating a molding cavity of a glassware molding machine having associated parts that combine to form said molding cavity, which method comprises:
- (a) providing lubricant directing apparatus that includes a directing head;
- (b) moving said directing head into said molding cavity with said directing head spaced from the molding surface of said molding cavity;
- (c) directing a lubricant onto said molding surface of said molding cavity; and
- (d) said directing step comprises directing said lubricant at a first angle with respect to said moving of said directing head in said cavity, and selectively changing said directing angle to a second angle.
- 4. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said method further comprises rotating said directing head during said directing step.
- 5. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said molding machine includes a parison molding cavity and a parison plunger that cooperate to form a parison from a gob of molten glass, and said method further comprises diverting a gob of molten glass from said parison molding cavity during said directing step.
- 6. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said associated parts comprise a parison blank mold and a parison finish mold, and said method further comprises maintaining said parison blank mold and said parison finish mold in a combined position during said directing step.
- 7. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said molding cavity comprises a parison molding cavity, said glassware molding machine includes a parison plunger that cooperates with said parison molding cavity to form a parison from a gob of molten glass, and said method further comprises maintaining said parison plunger in a fixed position remote from said parison molding cavity during said directing step.
- 8. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said associated parts comprise a parison blank mold, said molding machine includes parison baffle mold means for making contact with said parison blank mold during molding of a parison, and said method comprises maintaining said parison baffle mold means in a fixed position remote from said parison blank mold during said directing step.
- 9. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said associated parts include a parison blank mold, said molding machine includes a gob loading funnel means for directing a gob of molten glass into said molding cavity, and said method comprises maintaining said gob loading funnel means in a fixed position remote from said parison blank mold during said directing step.
- 10. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said molding cavity comprises a container body molding cavity, said associated parts comprise a container body side mold and a container body bottom mold, and said method further comprises maintaining said container body side mold and said container body bottom mold in a combined position during said directing step.
- 11. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said molding cavity comprises a container body molding cavity, said associated parts comprise a container body side mold, said machine comprises container blowhead means for making contact with said container body side mold, and said method further comprises maintaining said container blowhead means in a fixed position remote from said container body side mold during said directing step.
- 12. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said molding cavity comprises a container body molding cavity wherein a finished container is formed around a mold axis, said machine comprises container take out means for making contact with said finished container while said finished container is disposed around said mold axis, and said method further comprises maintaining said take out means in a fixed position remote from said mold axis during said directing step.
- 13. A method for lubricating a parison molding cavity of a glassware molding machine in which said glassware molding machine includes a parison plunger that cooperates with said parison molding cavity to form a parison from a gob of molten glass, and said method comprises:
- (a) providing lubricant directing apparatus that includes a directing head;
- (b) moving said directing head into said molding cavity with said directing head spaced from the molding surface of said molding cavity;
- (c) directing a lubricant onto said molding surface of said molding cavity; and
- (d) providing a barrier between said lubricant and said parison plunger.
- 14. A method as claimed in claim 13 in which said step of providing a barrier comprises directing fluid between said lubricant and said parison plunger.
- 15. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said directing apparatus includes a spindle; said moving of said directing head into said molding cavity comprises moving said spindle into said cavity; said method comprises collecting excess lubricant from said molding cavity during said directing step; and said collecting step comprises drawing excess lubricant longitudinally along said spindle.
- 16. A method as claimed in claim 1 in which said molding cavity comprises a parison molding cavity; said glassware molding machine includes a parison plunger that cooperates with said molding cavity to form a parison from a gob of molten glass, and said method further comprises, directing a barrier of fluid between said lubricant and said parison plunger during said depositing step; and exhausting both fluid and excess lubricant from said molding cavity during said depositing step.
- 17. A method as claimed in claim 16 in which said directing apparatus includes a spindle; said moving of said directing head into said molding cavity comprises moving said spindle into said cavity; and said exhausting step comprises drawing both said fluid and said excess lubricant longitudinally along said spindle and removing said fluid and said excess lubricant remote from said parison plunger.
- 18. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said directing step comprises selectively depositing different lubricants onto different portions of said molding cavity.
- 19. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said directing step comprises directing said lubricant at a first angle with respect to said moving of said directing head in said cavity, and selectively changing said first angle to a second angle.
- 20. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said molding machine includes a parison plunger, and said method comprises providing a barrier between said directing head and said parison plunger.
- 21. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said molding machine includes a parison plunger, and said method comprises providing a barrier between said directing head and said parison plunger, and said step of providing a barrier comprises directing fluid between said lubricant and said parison plunger.
- 22. A method as claimed in claim 2 in which said method comprises collecting excess lubricant exhaust from said molding cavity during said directing step.
- 23. A method as claimed in claim 22 in which said directing apparatus includes a spindle:
- (a) said moving of said directing head into said molding cavity comprises moving said spindle into said molding cavity;
- (b) said method comprises collecting excess lubricant exhaust from said molding cavity during said directing step; and
- (c) said collecting step comprises drawing excess lubricant longitudinally along said spindle.
