Claims
- 1. An apparatus for manufacturing a tire, comprising a central body having a generally cylindrical main receiving surface to receive the products to be assembled, said main receiving surface being radially expandable and retractable, said central body being mounted on a shaft, and said apparatus further comprising at least a side crown and an intermediate crown, both of said crowns mounted on said shaft, said intermediate crown interposed between said central body and said side crown, and wherein said intermediate crown and said side crown are integral in axial translation with said central body and are radially expandable individually and independently of said central body.
- 2. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said drum further comprises a shoulder axially to the side edges of said main receiving surface.
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said side crown and said intermediate crown, in their respective retracted positions, each have an outside diameter substantially equal to the outside diameter of said receiving surface of said central body in a retracted position thereof.
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said side crown and said intermediate crown, in their respective expanded positions, have outside diameters less than the outside diameter of said receiving surface of said central body in an expanded position thereof.
- 5. The apparatus according to claim 4, wherein said side crown and said intermediate crown, in their respective expanded positions have substantially equal outside diameters.
- 6. The apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said shoulder is inclined with respect to the radial direction, without having any portion contained in a plane perpendicular to the axis.
- 7. A process for manufacturing a tire, comprising the steps of:
providing an apparatus for manufacturing a tire comprising a generally cylindrical main receiving surface, a side crown having a first cylindrical support surface, and an intermediate crown having a second cylindrical support surface, positioning said main receiving surface at an initial diameter to receive the products to be assembled, positioning said first and said second cylindrical support surfaces at a diameter substantially equal to the diameter said main receiving surface, laying a casing carcass on said main receiving surface wherein at least one lateral extremity of said casing carcass is laid on said first and second support surfaces, expanding said main receiving surface and said first support surface wherein the outside diameter of said receiving surface is at least greater than the outside diameter of said second support surface, and the outside diameter of said second support surface is at least greater than the outside diameter of said first support surface, laying a rubber composition section on said extremity of said casing carcass and said rubber section being laid laterally at an axial position corresponding to said first support surface, folding said extremity of said casing carcass around said rubber composition section while keeping said rubber composition section substantially stationary, placing a bead wire complex on the fold thus made, said complex being laid laterally at the axial position corresponding to said second supporting surface, and being laid axially to the interior of said rubber composition section, expanding said side crown such that the outside diameter of said first support surface is at least about equal to the outside diameter of said second support surface.
