Claims
- 1. A sealing assembly, which secures a first enclosure sheet to a second enclosure sheet when an adhesive material is interposed therebetween comprising:
- a first roller having a sealing ridge attached thereto; and
- a second roller, wherein (1) said sealing ridge is positioned in operative contact with said second roller during a first mode of operation, (2) said sealing ridge is positioned out of operative contact with said second roller during a second mode of operation, (3) said first roller rotates during said first mode operation, and (4) said second roller is held stationary during said first mode of operation wherein positioning said first enclosure sheet and said second enclosure sheet at a location between said first roller and second roller during said first mode of operation causes said adhesive material to be compressed between said first enclosure sheet and said second enclosure sheet thereby securing said first enclosure sheet to said second enclosure sheet.
- 2. The sealing assembly of claim 1, further comprising a sheet advancing system for advancing a first enclosure sheet and a second enclosure sheet to location between said first roller and said second roller.
- 3. The sealing assembly of claim 2, wherein:
- said first roller and said sealing ridge are configured to define a sheet advancement gap, said sheet advancement gap is (1) positioned between an upper ridge point and a lower ridge point, and (2) juxtaposed to said first roller, and
- said sheet advancing system advances an envelope through said advancement gap during said second mode of operation.
- 4. The sealing assembly of claim 3, wherein:
- said first roller is substantially D-shaped,
- said advancement gap is located adjacent to a substantially flat side of said D-shaped roller, and
- said sealing ridge is located adjacent to a substantially curved side of said D-shaped roller.
- 5. The sealing assembly of claim 3, wherein:
- said first enclosure sheet includes a first pressure sensitive adhesive thereon,
- said second enclosure sheet includes a second pressure sensitive adhesive thereon, and
- said first pressure sensitive adhesive is urged into contact with said second pressure sensitive adhesive by interaction between said sealing ridge and said second roller during said first mode of operation.
- 6. The sealing assembly of claim 1, wherein:
- said sealing ridge continuously extends from a first end of said first roller to a second end of said first roller.
- 7. The sealing assembly of claim 1, wherein said sealing ridge is substantially V-shaped.
- 8. A method of sealing an envelope in a document security apparatus, comprising the steps of:
- advancing a first enclosure sheet and a second enclosure sheet to a location between a first roller and a second roller, wherein (1) the first enclosure sheet includes a first pressure sensitive adhesive thereon, (2) the second enclosure sheet includes a second pressure sensitive adhesive thereon, and (3) the first roller has a sealing ridge attached thereto; and
- rotating the first roller during a first mode of operation while maintaining the second roller stationary during the first mode of operation so that the first pressure sensitive adhesive is urged into contact with the second pressure sensitive adhesive.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein:
- the document security apparatus includes a sheet advancing system, and
- the advancing step includes the step of moving the first enclosure sheet and the second enclosure sheet to the location between the first roller and the second roller with the sheet advancing system.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein:
- the first roller and the sealing ridge are configured to define a sheet advancement gap,
- the sheet advancement gap is (1) positioned between an upper ridge point and a lower ridge point, and (2) juxtaposed to the first roller, and the moving step includes the step of advancing the first enclosure sheet and the second enclosure sheet through the advancement gap.
- 11. The method of claim 10, wherein:
- the first roller is substantially D-shaped,
- the advancement gap is located adjacent to a substantially flat side of the D-shaped roller, and
- the sealing ridge is located adjacent to a substantially curved side of the D-shaped roller.
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein:
- the sealing ridge continuously extends from a first end of the first roller to a second end of the first roller.
- 13. The method of claim 8, wherein the sealing ridge is substantially V-shaped.
- 14. A sealing assembly which secures a first enclosed sheet to a second enclosure sheet when an adhesive material is interposed therebetween, comprising:
- a first roller having a sealing ridge attached thereto; and
- a support surface, wherein (1) said sealing ridge is positioned in operative contact with said support surface during a first mode of operation, (2) said sealing ridge is positioned out of operative contact with said support surface during a second mode of operation, and (3) relative slip occurs between said first roller and said support surface during said first mode of operation wherein positioning said first enclosure sheet and said second enclosure sheet at a location between said first roller and second roller during said first mode of operation causes said adhesive material to be compressed between said first enclosure sheet and said second enclosure sheet thereby securing said first enclosure sheet to said second enclosure sheet.
- 15. The sealing assembly of claim 14, wherein:
- said support surface includes a second roller, and
- relative slip occurs between said first roller and said second roller during said first mode of operation.
- 16. The sealing assembly of claim 15, wherein second roller is held stationary during said first mode of operation.
- 17. The sealing assembly of claim 15, further comprising a sheet advancing system for advancing a first enclosure sheet and a second enclosure sheet to location between said first roller and said second roller.
- 18. The sealing assembly of claim 17, wherein:
- said first roller and said sealing ridge are configured to define a sheet advancement gap,
- said sheet advancement gap is (1) positioned between an upper ridge point and a lower ridge point, and (2) juxtaposed to said first roller, and
- said sheet advancing system advances an envelope through said advancement gap during said second mode of operation.
- 19. The sealing assembly of claim 18, wherein:
- said first roller is substantially D-shaped,
- said advancement gap is located adjacent to a substantially flat side of said D-shaped roller, and
- said sealing ridge is located adjacent to a substantially curved side of said D-shaped roller.
- 20. The sealing assembly of claim 18, wherein:
- said first enclosure sheet includes a first pressure sensitive adhesive thereon,
- said second enclosure sheet includes a second pressure sensitive adhesive thereon, and
- said first pressure sensitive adhesive is urged into contact with said second pressure sensitive adhesive by interaction between said sealing ridge and said second roller during said first mode of operation.
