- 8. The instrument as defined in claim 1 wherein said positioning bar is operable to engage a medial cortex of the tibia at two points to provide a predetermined insertion length of said elongated body into the tibial tunnel.
- 9. An instrument for use in fixation of a soft tissue graft, said instrument comprising:a first portion having a handle and a first threaded sidewall; and a second portion defining a bore passing through said second portion, said second portion including a second threaded sidewall that is operable to threadably engage said first threaded sidewall and an impact head that is operable to engage a fixation apparatus, wherein said second portion is operable to seat the fixation apparatus and operable to guide a drill bit through said bore; wherein said first portion includes an awl axially extending from said handle having a distal point.
- 10. The instrument as defined in claim 9 wherein said awl axially extends within said bore in said second portion.
- 11. The instrument as defined in claim 10 wherein a distal end of said handle includes said first threaded sidewall and a proximal end of said second portion includes said second threaded sidewall, wherein when said first and second threaded sidewalls are threadably engaged, said awl distally extends out beyond said impact head.
- 12. An instrument for use in fixation of a soft tissue graft, said instrument comprising:a first portion having a handle and a first threaded sidewall; and a second portion defining a bore passing through said second portion, said second portion including a second threaded sidewall that is operable to threadably engage said first threaded sidewall and an impact head that is operable to engage a fixation apparatus, wherein said second portion is operable to seat the fixation apparatus and operable to guide a drill bit through said bore; wherein said impact head nestingly mates with the fixation apparatus.
- 13. The instrument as defined in claim 12 wherein said impact head includes a spherical impact face having a threaded connection member which is operable to threadably engage the fixation apparatus.
- 14. A set of instruments for use in the fixation of a soft tissue graft, said set of instruments comprising:a counterbore guide having an elongated body operable to be inserted into a tibial tunnel preformed in a tibia, said counterbore guide having first and second positioning members extending from said elongated body which are operable to provide a substantially stable three point contact within an entrance opening to the tibial tunnel; and a combination implant and guide instrument having a first handle portion and a second guide portion, said first handle portion and said second guide portion operable to be threadably secured together and further operable to seat a fixation apparatus and operable to guide a drill bit.
- 15. The set of instruments as defined in claim 14 wherein said counterbore guide defines a first bore passing through said counterbore guide.
- 16. The set of instruments as defined in claim 15 wherein said positioning members includes a positioning bar extending substantially perpendicular from said elongated body and a guide bushing extending substantially perpendicular from said elongated body, said guide bushing defining a second bore passing through said guide bushing.
