Claims
- 1. A method of dispensing gas containing liquid from a plurality of interconnected liquid containers coupled to a faucet wherein the faucet and containers form a part of a pressurized gas containing liquid dispensing system having a specified pressure input from a gas pressure source and a variable pressure drop across the containers during dispensing operations wherein said containers are connected in parallel with said faucet with discrete liquid lines connecting said containers with said faucet comprising the step of: automatically maintaining a specified constant gas containing liquid flow rate at the faucet at a predetermined foam rate while flowing liquid from each of said containers and thoughout the entire dispensing operation and maintaining a predetermined constant gas containing liquid flow rate in each discrete liquid flow line while flowing liquid at a rate from each of said containers substantially equal to said specified constant flow rate divided by the number of parallel connections.
- 2. A gas containing liquid dispensing system comprising a plurality of liquid containers, liquid dispensing means disposed in each container, a liquid outlet, a source of gas under pressure, means coupling said containers in parallel with said liquid outlet, means coupling said gas pressure source to said parallel coupled containers providing for communication of gas from said source to said parallel coupled containers, and means automatically providing a predetermined gas containing liquid constant flow rate at said liquid outlet at a predetermined foam rate while flowing liquid from each said container throughout the entirety of the dispensing operation.
- 3. A gas containing dispensing system according to claim 2 wherein said parallel connected containers comprise sets of at least two serially connected containers each, means coupling the two containers of each set in series with one another with one of the two containers being coupled to said gas pressure source and comprising the first of the serially connected containers of each set and the other of the two serially connected containers being coupled to said liquid outlet.
- 4. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure of approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure when the beer to be dispensed is at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure means being adjustable to provide gas at a pressure varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means for coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means for coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- beer dispensing faucet means, with variable restrictor means coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in series which is nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- said system being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in series plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included between said gas pressure means, and faucet means plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation between the faucet means and beer containers in such that said total summation is equal to or less than approximately 15 pounds per square inch;
- said variable restrictor means comprising a housing defining a chamber and having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having a plurality of apertures establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about one gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said first-mentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and such valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about one gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve portion by said valve biasing means so as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation of the sum of pressure drops in all the beer containers plus the sum of pressure drops in all said fluid coupling means plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift;
- said beer dispensing system being such that said faucet means dispense beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer.
- 5. A system for dispensing beer according to claim 4, wherein said variable restrictor means comprises:
- said first valve portion being carried by said housing and including a valve seat defining a valve opening associated with said conduit means connected to said fluid outlet;
- said additional valve element spaced from said valve seat and carried by said diaphragm for movement toward and away from said valve seat;
- spring means within said housing for biasing said valve element carried by said diaphragm in a direction away from said valve seat.
- 6. A system according to claim 5, wherein said variable restrictor means further comprises:
- means carried by said housing for adjusting the spacing between said valve seat and said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm.
- 7. A system according to claim 5, wherein said variable restrictor means comprises:
- spring means within said housing disposed between said diaphragm and an element carried by said housing, said element being mounted so that it can be axially moved toward and away from said diaphragm and providing a seat for one end of said spring means; and means carried by said huusing for axially positioning said last mentioned element and axially changing said spring means and its resultant biasing force.
- 8. A system with variable restrictor means according to claim 4, wherein said variable restrictor means includes means for adjusting the size of the aperture beer passage area through said diaphragm.
- 9. A system with variable restrictor means according to claim 4, wherein:
- said diaphragm includes a flexible member connected to said housing about its margins; plus means for adjusting the size of aperture beer passage area through said diaphragm, including a disc carried by the diaphragm and rotatable relative to said diaphragm, said disc having a portion thereof for covering at least part of at least one diaphragm aperture due to rotation of said disc.
- 10. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure of approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure when the beer to be dispensed is at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure means being adjustable to provide gas at a pressure varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- a first group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- a second series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- said first and second series groups being connected in parallel to each other with means connecting the last beer container of each series group to common beer dispensing faucet means included in the system;
- variable restrictor means in each of said first and second series groups coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in the respective series group, such last beer container being nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- each series group being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in that respective series group plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included in that respective series group plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation with respect to the faucet means and beer containers of that particular series group is such that said total summation is equal to or less than approximately 15 pounds per square inch;
- each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups comprising a housing defining a chamber and having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about one-half gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said firstmentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and said valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about one-half gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve portion by said valve biasing means to as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation for the respective series group of the pressure drops for all beer containers and fluid coupling means plus any drop due to lift;
- said beer dispensing system being such that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer.
- 11. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure of approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure when the beer to be dispensed is at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure means being adjustable to provide gas at a pressure varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- a first series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- a second series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- a third series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- said first, second and third series group being connected in parallel to each other with means connecting the last beer container of each series group to common beer dispensing faucet means included in the system;
- variable restrictor means in each of said first, second and third series groups coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in the respective series group, such last beer container being nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- each series group being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in that respective series group plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included in that respective series group plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation with respect to the faucet means and beer containers of that particular series group is such that said total summation is equal to or less than approximately 15 pounds per square inch;
- each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups comprising a housing defining a chamber and having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about one-third gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said first-mentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and said valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about one-third gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve portion by said valve biasing means so as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation for the respective series group of the pressure drops for all kegs and fluid coupling means plus any drop due to lift;
- said beer dispensing system being such that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer.
- 12. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure of approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure when the beer to be dispensed is at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure means being adjustable to provide gas at a pressure varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- a first series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- at least one additional series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- said first and additional series groups constituting a total number of n series groups, each of said series groups being connected in parallel to each other with means connecting the last beer container of each series group to common beer dispensing faucet means included in the system;
- variable restrictor means in each of said series groups coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in the respective series group, such last beer container being nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- each series group being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in that respective series group plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included in that respective series group plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation with respect to the faucet means and beer containers of that particular series group is such that said total summation is equal to or less than approximately 15 pounds per square inch;
- each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups comprising a housing defining a chamber and having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about 1/n gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said first-mentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and said valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about 1/n gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve portion by said valve biasing means so as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation for the respective series group of the pressure drops for all kegs and fluid coupling means plus any drop due to lift;
- said beer dispensing system being such that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer.
- 13. A system according to claim 12, wherein the number of series groups n is at least 2.
- 14. A system according to claim 12, wherein the number of series groups n is at least 3.
- 15. A system according to claim 12, wherein n is greater than 3 while the total number of n series groups are limited to a number so that each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups has a diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and measuring rate of flow of beer at about 1/n gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through each variable restrictor means housing via the inlet and outlet thereof with the variable restrictor means providing in its respective series group a pressure drop which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation for that respective series group of the pressure drops for the beer containers and fluid coupling means plus any drop due to lift, and so that said beer dispensing system is such that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer.
- 16. A method for dispensing beer comprising:
- providing a gas pressure source for supplying gas under pressure of approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure when the beer to be dispensed is at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., and providing for adjusting said gas pressure to vary the pressure suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- connecting in a first series group at least two beer containers in series with said gas pressure source and with each other, coupling said gas pressure source to one of the beer containers and coupling the plural beer containers for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- connecting at least one additional series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure source and with each other, coupling said gas pressure source to one of the beer containers and coupling the plural beer containers for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers, so that said first and additional series groups constitute a total number of n series groups; and connecting each of said n series groups in parallel to each other;
- providing a common beer faucet means in said system and connecting the last beer container of each said series group to such common beer dispensing faucet means;
- providing variable restrictor means in each of said series groups coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in the respective series group, such last beer container being nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- establishing and operating said beer dispensing system in such manner that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in each said series group plus the sum of pressure drops in all components included in that respective series group plus the sum of all pressure drop due to any lift difference is such that said total summation is maintained equal to or less than approximately 15 pounds per square inch;
- arranging each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups to establish and monitor rate of flow of beer at about 1/n gallon per minute through each said variable restrictor means, and providing variable valving means within each said variable restrictor means so that when the rate of beer flow through such variable restrictor means should exceed about 1/n gallon per minute said variable valve means operates to vary the passage through same and provide a pressure drop at such variable restrictor means which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation of the sum of pressure drops in all beer containers plus the sum of other pressure drops in other parts of said respective series group;
- arranging and operating said beer dispensing system so that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. and providing suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer.
- 17. A method according to claim 16, wherein the number of series groups n is at least 2.
- 18. A method according to claim 16, wherein the number of series groups n is at least 3.
- 19. A method according to claim 16, wherein the number of series groups n is greater than 3 while the total number of n series groups are limited to a number so that each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups is operated to establish and measure rate of flow of beer at about 1/n gallon per minute through each such variable restrictor means and to provide in its respective series group a pressure drop which is equal approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation for that respective series group of the pressure drops for all beer containers and other components plus any lift drop for that respective series group, and also so that said beer dispensing system is operated so that said common faucet means dispenses beer from the overall system at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. while providing suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer.
- 20. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure P.sub.gm in requisite pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure for dispensing beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure P.sub.gm varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- a first series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- at least one additional series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- said first and additional series groups constituting a total number of n series groups, each of said series groups being connected in parallel to each other with means connecting the last beer container of each series group to common beer dispensing faucet means included in the system;
- variable restrictor means in each of said series groups coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in the respective series group, such last beer container being nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- said faucet means being capable of dispensing beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with effective gas pressure P.sub.fm at said faucet means in requisite pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure P.sub.fm acording to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer;
- each series group being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in that respective series group plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included in that respective series group plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation with respect to the faucet means and beer containers of that particular series group is such that said total summation in pounds per square inch pressure drop P.sub.sd is equal to or less than approximately the difference between said first mentioned pressure P.sub.gm minus said second-mentioned pressure P.sub.fm ("P.sub.gm - P.sub.fm ");
- each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups comprising a housing defining a chamber and having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about 1/n gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said first-mentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and said valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about 1/n gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve portion by said valve biasing means so as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal in pounds per square inch approximately to said value of P.sub.gm - P.sub.fm minus said total summation P.sub.sd for the respective series group of the pressure drops for all kegs and fluid coupling means plus any drop due to lift.
- 21. A system according to claim 20, wherein:
- said gas pressure P.sub.gm is approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure;
- said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means P.sub.fm being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure; and
- the value of said total pressure drop summation P.sub.sd is approximately 15 pounds per square inch.
- 22. A system according to claim 20, wherein the number of series groups n is at least 2.
- 23. A system according to claim 20, wherein the number of series groups n is at least 3.
- 24. A system according to claim 20, wherein n is greater than 3 while the total number of n series groups are limited to a number so that each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups has a diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and measuring rate of flow of beer at about 1/n gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through each variable restrictor means housing via the inlet and outlet thereof with the variable restrictor means providing in its respective series group a pressure drop which is equal in pounds per square inch approximately to said value of P.sub.gm - P.sub.fm minus said total summation P.sub.sd for that respective series group of the pressure drops for the beer containers and fluid coupling means plus any drop due to lift, and so that said beer dispensing system is such that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately P.sub.fm pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure P.sub.fm according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer.
- 25. A system for dispensing beer according to claim 20, wherein said variable restrictor means comprises:
- said first valve portion being carried by said housing and including a valve seat defining a valve opening associated with said conduit means connected to said fluid outlet;
- said additional valve element spaced from said valve seat and carried by said diaphragm for movement toward and away from said valve seat;
- spring means within said housing for biasing said valve element carried by said diaphragm in a direction away from said valve seat.
- 26. A system according to claim 25, wherein said variable restrictor means further comprises:
- means carried by said housing for adjusting the spacing between said valve seat and said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm.
- 27. A system with variable restrictor means according to claim 20, wherein the beer passage area through said diaphragm is provided by a plurality of aperatures in said diaphragm.
- 28. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure of approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure when the beer to be dispensed is at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure means being adjustable to provide gas at a pressure varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means for coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means for coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- beer dispensing faucet means, with variable restrictor means coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in series which is nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- said system being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in series plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included between said gas pressure means, and faucet means plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation between the faucet means and beer containers is such that said total summation is equal to or less than approximately 15 pounds per square inch;
- said variable restrictor means comprising a housing defining a chamber and having fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about one gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said first-mentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and such valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about one gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve portion by said valve biasing means so as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation of the sum of pressure drops in all the beer containers plus the sum of pressure drops in all said fluid coupling means plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift;
- said beer dispensing system being such that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer;
- said first valve portion being carried by said housing and including a valve seat defining a valve opening associated with said conduit means connected to said fluid outlet;
- said additional valve element spaced from said vlave seat and carried by said diaphragm for movement toward and away from said valve seat;
- spring means within said housing for biasing said valve element carried by said diaphragm in a direction away from said valve seat;
- means carried by said housing for adjusting the spacing between said valve seat and said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm; and
- said spring means within said housing disposed between said diaphragm and an element carried by said housing, said element being mounted so that it can be axially moved toward and away from said diaphragm and providing a seat for one end of said spring means; and means carried by said housing for axially positioning said last mentioned element and axially changing said spring means and its resultant biasing force.
- 29. A system with variable restrictor means according to claim 28, wherein:
- said first valve portion conduit means includes an annular member which is externally threaded; said axially movable element having an internally threaded portion in threaded engagement with said annular member, with means disposed between said housing and said axially movable member for preventing rotational movement of said member when it is axially displaced with respect to said housing.
- 30. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure of approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure when the beer to be dispensed is at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure means being adjustable to provide gas at a pressure varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means for coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means for coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- beer dispensing faucet means, with variable restrictor means coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in series which is nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- said system being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in series plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included between said gas pressure means, and faucet means plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation between the faucet means and beer containers is such that said total summation is equal to or less than approximately 15 pounds per square inch;
- said variable restrictor means comprising a housing defining a chamber and having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about one gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said first-mentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and such valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about one gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve portion by said valve biasing means so as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation of the sum of pressure drops in all the beer containers plus the sum of pressure drops in all said fluid coupling means plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift;
- said beer dispensing system being such that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer;
- wherein said variable restrictor means includes means for adjusting the size of the aperture beer passage area through said diaphragm.
- 31. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure of approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure when the beer to be dispensed is at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure means being adjustable to provide gas at a pressure varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means for coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means for coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- beer dispensing faucet means, with variable restrictor means coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in series which is nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- said system being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in series plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included between said gas pressure means, and faucet means plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation between the faucet means and beer containers is such that said total summation is equal to or less than approximately 15 pounds per square inch;
- said variable restrictor means comprising a housing defining a chamber and having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about one gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said first-mentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and such valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about one gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve portion by said valve biasing means so as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation of the sum of pressure drops in all the beer containers plus the sum of pressure drops in all said fluid coupling means plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift;
- said beer dispensing system being such that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer;
- said diaphragm includes a flexible member connected to said housing about its margins; plus means for adjusting the size of aperture beer passage area through said diaphragm, including a disc carried by the diaphragm and rotatable relative to said diaphragm, said disc having a portion thereof for covering at least part of at least one diaphragm aperture due to rotation of said disc.
- 32. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure P.sub.gm in requisite pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure for dispensing beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure P.sub.gm varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- a first series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- at least one additional series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- said first and additional series groups constituting a total number of n series groups, each of said series groups being connected in parallel to each other with means connecting the last beer container of each series group to common beer dispensing faucet means included in the system;
- variable restrictor means in each of said series groups coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in the respective series group, such last beer container being nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- said faucet means being capable of dispensing beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with effective gas pressure P.sub.fm at said faucet means in requisite pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure P.sub.fm according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer;
- each series group being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in that respective series group plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included in that respective series group plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation with respect to the faucet means and beer containers of that particular series group is such that said total summation in pounds per square inch pressure drop P.sub.sd is equal to or less than approximately the difference between said first mentioned pressure P.sub.gm minus said second mentioned pressure P.sub.fm ("P.sub.gm - P.sub.fm ");
- each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups comprising a housing defining a chamber and having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about 1/n gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said first-mentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and said valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about 1/n gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve portion by said valve biasing means so as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal in pounds per square inch approximately in said value of P.sub.gm - P.sub.fm minus said total summation P.sub.sd for the respective series group of the pressure drops for all kegs and fluid coupling means plus any drop due to lift;
- said gas pressure P.sub.gm is approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure;
- said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means P.sub.fm being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure;
- the valve of said total pressure drop summation P.sub.sd is approximately 15 pounds per square inch; and
- spring means within said housing disposed between said diaphragm and an element carried by said housing, said element being mounted so that it can be axially moved toward and away from said diaphragm and providing a seat for one end of said spring means; and means carried by said housing for axially positioning said last mentioned element and axially changing said spring means and its resultant biasing force.
- 33. A system for dispensing beer comprising:
- gas pressure means for providing gas under pressure of approximately 15.6 pounds per square inch above atmospheric pressure when the beer to be dispensed is at a temperature of about 38.degree. F., with said gas pressure means being adjustable to provide gas at a pressure varying suitably according to the number of degrees Fahrenheit variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer to be dispensed;
- a first series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- at least one additional series group including at least two beer containers connected in series with said gas pressure means and with each other, with means coupling said gas pressure means to one of the beer containers plus means coupling the plural beer containers in series for passage of beer between serially connected beer containers;
- said first and additional series groups constituting a total number of n series groups, each of said series groups being connected in parallel to each other with means connecting the last beer container of each series group to common beer dispensing faucet means included in the system;
- variable restrictor means in each of said series groups coupled to fluid outlet means of the last beer container in the respective series group, such last beer container being nearest to said dispensing faucet means;
- each series group being such that total summation of the sum of pressure drops in the plurality of beer containers in that respective series group plus the sum of pressure drops in all fluid coupling means included in that respective series group plus the sum of all pressure drop due to lift because of any difference in elevation with respect to the faucet means and beer containers of that particular series group is such that said total summation is equal to or less than approximately 15 pounds per square inch;
- each of said variable restrictor means in each of said respective series groups comprising a housing defining a chamber and having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet in communication with said chamber, with a diaphragm within said housing segregating said chamber so that said fluid inlet and said fluid outlet are on respective opposite sides of said diaphragm; said diaphragm having at least one aperture establishing and monitoring rate of flow of beer at about 1/n gallon per minute past the diaphragm and through said housing via said inlet and outlet; valve means disposed within said housing including a valve portion associated with conduit means connected to said fluid outlet, with additional valve means carried by said diaphragm movable toward and away from said valve portion; means for biasing said additional valve means in a direction away from said first-mentioned valve portion; said variable restrictor means including said diaphragm with such aperture area and said valve biasing means providing a force of such magnitude so that when the rate of beer flow through the chamber of the variable restrictor means should exceed about 1/n gallon per minute said additional valve element carried by said diaphragm is caused to be displaced toward said valve poriton by said valve biasing means so as to vary the passage through said valve means to provide a pressure drop which is equal to approximately 15 pounds per square inch minus said total summation for the respective series group of the pressure drops for all kegs and said fluid coupling means plus any drop due to lift;
- said beer dispensing system being such that said faucet means dispenses beer at a rate of approximately one gallon per minute with the effective gas pressure at the faucet means being approximately 0.6 pounds above atmospheric pressure for beer at a temperature of about 38.degree. F. with suitable variation in such effective gas pressure according to variation from 38.degree. F. of the temperature of the beer; and
- said variable restrictor means includes means for adjusting the size of the aperture beer passage area through said diaphragm.
