- 3. Apparatus according to claim 2, wherein said alignment means includes first, second and third bearing means (2,3,4), said first and second bearing means bearing on an upper part of one of the two tubes to be welded, said third bearing means serving as an attitude corrector by bearing, on the other tube, said third bearing means lying in the plane of symmetry of said first and second bearing means, said first, second and third bearing means positioning the machine automatically.
- 4. Apparatus according to claim 1 or 3, wherein said bearing means each comprise a roller, said third bearing means roller having a rolling axis perpendicular to the axes of the said first and second bearing means rollers, said third bearing means roller being associated with a brake and drive means.
- 5. Apparatus according to claim 1 or 3, wherein said alignment means further comprises three locating rollers (5,6,7) which lie in a plane common to said welding means and are associated with rams for moving said rollers in said plane.
- 6. Apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said mounting means comprise a welding carriage movable parallel to the plane of said locating rollers, guide arms for mounting said welding means on said welding carriage, said guide arms being pivoted on spindles extending perpendicular to said plane, said frame being located by said first, second, and third bearing rollers and two pressure members for bearing on said tubes.
- 7. Apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said welding carriage is supported on three roller pairs, two of which run on an outer roller way and the third of which is offset radially from the other two and runs on a shorter inner roller way.
- 8. Apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said guide arms are associated with a guide roller for running in grooves defined by the tube bevels.
- 9. Apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said guide arms have means for adjusting the distance between said roller and said arm-carrying spindle.
- 10. Apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said guide arms have means for adjusting their distance from said carriage.
- 11. Apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said guide arms have means for adjusting the distance between said welding means and the bevels.
- 12. Apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said guide arms have means for adjusting the distance between said guide roller and said welding means and comprise a support for adjustment of the inclination of the axis of said welding means to the normal to the tubes.
- 13. Apparatus according to claim 8, including means for retaining said guide arm for maintaining said guide roller in engagement with the bevels.
- 14. Apparatus according to claim 8, wherein said guide roller has a shaped outer periphery, the edges of the V normally bearing on the bevels.
- 15. Apparatus according to claim 14, wherein said guide roller is mounted in a support having weld projection protection means and means for removing projections sticking to said guide roller.
- 16. Apparatus according to claim 15, wherein said guide roller is pivotable around an axis perpendicular to the rolling axis and is protected from the welding means by an asbestos-covered copper box.
- 17. Apparatus according to claim 16, wherein a welding gas bypass extends to said guide roller.
- 18. Apparatus according to claim 6, wherein said guide arms are pivoted to a hinge whose axis is perpendicular to said carrying spindle axis, so as to be laterally movable by the tube bevels, and have restoring means for restoring them to a normal position relatively to said spindle.
- 19. Apparatus according to claim 1 or 3, including lifting means associated with a running gear for bearing on the tubes.
- 20. Apparatus according to claim 19, wherein said lifting means comprise a ram secured at the back of said apparatus to a beam extending in a vertical plane passing through the axis of the tubes and a ram secured to said beam at the front of said apparatus, said rams being actuated to cause said running gear to bear on generatrices of the tubes and to raise said frame.
- 21. Apparatus according to claim 20, wherein said running gear comprises spaced pairs of axlo-mounted wheels, the front wheels being closer together than the back wheels.
- 22. Apparatus according to claim 21, wherein said rear wheels have running regions which adhere to the tube and said front wheels are made of steel.
