- 10. The method of claim 9, further comprising:decreasing the speed of the conveyor section prior to moving the gate to the closed position.
- 11. The method of claim 8, further comprising:positioning the sensor adjacent the conveyor top surface where it will sense bottoms of objects conveyed by the conveyor section past the sensor.
- 12. The method of claim 8, further comprising:positioning a first sender and a first receiver of the sensor on opposite sides of the conveyor section and positioning a second sender and a second receiver of the sensor on opposite sides of the conveyor section.
- 13. The method of claim 12, further comprising:positioning the first sender adjacent the second receiver on one side of the conveyor section and positioning the second sender adjacent the first receiver on the opposite side of the conveyor section.
- 14. An apparatus for avoiding falling over of objects conveyed on a conveyor system, the apparatus comprising:a conveyor section having a length with opposite upstream and downstream ends; a motive source driving the conveyor section; a gate positioned adjacent the downstream end of the conveyor section, the gate being moveable between open and closed positions relative to the conveyor section where in the closed position the gate momentarily stops objects conveyed on the conveyor section and in the open position the gate allows objects to be conveyed past the gate by the conveyor section; and a sensor positioned at a location along the conveyor section length upstream from the gate and being operable to sense a presence or absence of an object on the conveyor section at the location and to emit a signal indicative of the sensed presence or absence of the object, the sensor communicating with the motive source and the gate to cause the motive source to decrease a speed of the conveyor section in response to the sensor sensing the presence of an object at the location of the conveyor section.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 14, wherein:the sensor communicates with the gate to cause the gate to open in response to the sensor sensing the presence of an object at the location of the conveyor section and the motive source decreasing the speed of the conveyor section.
- 16. An apparatus for avoiding falling over of objects conveyed on a conveyor system, the apparatus comprising:a conveyor section having a length with opposite upstream and downstream ends; a motive source driving the conveyor section; a gate positioned adjacent the downstream end of the conveyor section, the gate being moveable between open and closed positions relative to the conveyor section where in the closed position the gates holds back objects conveyed on the conveyor section and in the open position the gate allows objects to be conveyed past the gate by the conveyor section; a sensor positioned at a location along the conveyor section length upstream from the gate and being operable to sense a presence or absence of an object on the conveyor section at the location and to emit a signal indicative of the sensed presence or absence of the object, the sensor communicating with the motive source and the gate to cause the motive source to decrease a speed of the conveyor section in response to the sensor sensing the presence of an object at the location of the conveyor section; a vacuum source communicates with the conveyor section and draws air downwardly through the conveyor section to hold objects down on the conveyor section; and the sensor communicates with the vacuum source to cause the vacuum source to decrease a vacuum on objects conveyed by the conveyor section in response to the sensor sensing the presence of an object at the conveyor section location.
