Claims
- 1. An apparatus to bend plastic pipe by first heating the pipe, placing it into a bending-path-determining apparatus and thereafter cooling the pipe comprising:
- heating, bending and cooling stations arranged in series lengthwise of a pipe to be bent so that the pipe can be shoved lengthwise from the heating station to the bending station;
- wherein the bending station has two selectively separable bending dies having respective adjacent surfaces, each adjacent surface having a groove therein, with the grooves forming a bending pipe-shaped channel when the adjacent die surfaces are together, said channel having a lengthwise pattern corresponding to a desired lengthwise pattern of the pipe after it is bent, with cross sections of the grooves being substantially the same as an outer surface of the pipe;
- wherein the cooling station has a coupling joint for being connected to the pipe for causing a cooling medium to flow through the pipe;
- wherein the heating station comprises two separable heating fixtures having grooves therein which together complete a heating pipe-shaped channel whose cross-sectional size approximately corresponds to that of an outer surface of the pipe, with a length axis of the heating pipe-shaped channel being approximately serially aligned with a length axis of the bending pipe-shaped channel, said heating station including means for closing said heating fixtures on a portion of the pipe so that said portion of said pipe is held in said pipe-shaped channel until said portion of said pipe is heated for bending, and for thereafter separating said heating fixtures to release said portion of said pipe and said portion of said pipe can be moved longitudinally in said groove, with said groove providing guidance, whereby said pipe, before it is bent, can be heated in said heating pipe-shaped channel of said heating station and then shoved longitudinally from said heating pipe-shaped channel into said bending pipe-shaped channel of said bending station with said heating pipe-shaped channel helping to guide said pipe.
- 2. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein at least one of the two dies of the bending station along the length of the bending pipe-shaped channel is divided into a plurality of parts, with each part being independently linearly movable relative to the other parts, with all of the parts being movable along substantially parallel directional lines.
- 3. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the heating fixtures of the heating station are electrically heated.
- 4. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein a length of the heating pipe-shaped channel is approximately the same as that of a pipe portion to be bent.
- 5. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the two dies of the bending station and the two heating fixtures of the heating station are respectively separable for being opened and closed.
- 6. An apparatus as in claim 5 wherein there is a stop, arranged at an end of the bending station opposite to an end thereof at the heating station, for contacting the pipe when the pipe is shoved into the bending pipe-shaped channel of the bending station.
- 7. An apparatus as in claim 6 wherein is further included a sensor adjacent the stop for sensing that the pipe is at the stop and activating the bending station in response thereto.
- 8. An apparatus as in claim 6 wherein there is a light gate arranged immediately adjacent to the stop which is broken by a leading end of the pipe for activating a closing of the dies of the bending station.
- 9. An apparatus as in claim 1 wherein the coupling joint is coupled to a cooling-liquid supply line for coupling the cooling-liquid supply line to a following end of the pipe, and wherein the coupling joint is coupled to a pressurized-gas supply line for coupling the pressurized-gas supply line to the following end of the pipe for drying the interior of the pipe.
- 10. An apparatus in accordance with claim 9 wherein the cooling station further comprises a further coupling joint arranged at an end of the bending station, opposite to the end of the bending station adjacent to the heating station, for coupling with a leading end of the pipe for evacuating cooling liquid and pressurized gas from the pipe.
- 11. An apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the dies of the bending station are separable from one another along a line of travel of the dies and wherein each die of the bending station has a dimension of length along a length of the groove, a dimension of height along the line of travel of the dies, and a dimension of width in a direction orthogonal to the length and height dimensions, the width dimension defining a narrow edge, with respect to the length and height dimensions, extending along a length of the die, the groove for forming the bending pipe-shaped channel being defined in the narrow edge.
- 12. An apparatus as in claim 11 wherein the dimension of length and dimension of height define two opposite sides of each die and wherein side plates are arranged on said sides of one die of the bending station for extending towards and along opposite sides of the other die to thereby prevent the pipe from exiting from the bending pipe-shaped channel when it is shoved lengthwise thereinto and the dies are separated.
- 13. An apparatus as in claim 12 wherein the side plates are formed of strips of sheet metal attached to opposite sides of said one die.
- 14. An apparatus as in claim 11 wherein an edge of each of the said sides of the dies, which borders the bending pipe-shaped channel, defines a bend path of the pipe.
