Claims
- 1. Apparatus for providing compound movement to an aeration unit that distributes gas into a basin of a treatment facility having a work area adjacent to said basin, said apparatus comprising:
- means for lifting said aeration unit in a substantially vertical path out of said basin to a predetermined vertical position over said basin, said lifting means comprising a platform carrying said aeration unit, said platform locating said aeration unit at said vertical position out of said basin; and
- means for guiding said aeration unit in a substantially horizontal path in said predetermined vertical position away from said basin to a second position over said work area, said guiding means comprising a drawer guide secured to said platform and a drawer follower connected to said aeration unit and riding in said drawer guide to permit movement of said aeration unit relative to said platform.
- 2. Apparatus according to claim 1, further comprising:
- said drawer guide comprising channels secured to said platform in spaced relation on opposite sides of said aeration unit, each of said channels receiving one of said drawer followers; and
- each of said drawer follower received in said respective channels being slidable in said channel to permit movement of said aeration unit relative to said platform to said second position over said work area.
- 3. Apparatus for providing compound movement to an aeration unit that distributes gas into a basin of a treatment facility having a work area adjacent to said basin, said apparatus comprising:
- means for lifting said aeration unit in a substantially vertical path out of said basin to a predetermined vertical position over said basin, said lifting means comprising a platform carrying said aeration unit and a plurality of winches provided with cables connected to said platform for lifting said platform to said vertical position out of said basin; and
- means for guiding said aeration unit in a substantially horizontal path in said predetermined vertical position away from said basin to a second position over said work area, said guiding means comprising at least one guide mounted on said platform and extending along a guiding horizontal path parallel to said substantially horizontal path, said guiding means further comprising at least one guide member mounted on said aeration unit and cooperating with said guide to guide said aeration unit across said platform in said predetermined vertical position away from said basin to said second position over said work area.
- 4. Apparatus for providing compound movement to an aeration unit that distributes gas into a basin of a treatment facility having a work area adjacent to said basin, said apparatus comprising:
- said aeration unit comprising at least one conduit for supplying said gas to said basin;
- means for lifting said aeration unit in a substantially vertical path out of said basin to a predetermined vertical position over said basin, said lifting means comprising a platform; and
- means for guiding said aeration unit in a substantially horizontal path in said predetermined vertical position away from said basin to a second position over said work area, said guiding means comprising a saddle mounted on said platform, said saddle having a guide surface shaped to engage and cooperate with said at least one conduit to guide said conduit in said substantially horizontal path in said predetermined vertical position away from said basin to said second position.
- 5. Apparatus for providing compound movement to an aeration unit that distributes gas into a basin of a treatment facility having a work area adjacent to said basin, said apparatus comprising:
- means for lifting said aeration unit in a substantially vertical path out of said basin to a predetermined vertical position over said basin, said lifting means comprising a platform having a first end near said work area and a second end remote from said work area, said lifting means further comprising a vector force transfer drive for applying a substantially vertical force to said first end and transferring vector components of said force to said second end to move said platform in said substantially vertical path out of said basin to said predetermined vertical position over said basin; and
- means for guiding said aeration unit in a substantially horizontal path in said predetermined vertical position away from said basin to a second position over said work area.
- 6. Apparatus for moving an aeration unit in a compound movement path, said unit normally being in a horizontal position in a basin of a treatment facility having a service area adjacent to said basin, said unit being removable from said basin for servicing, said apparatus comprising:
- means for providing first movement of the compound movement of said aeration unit in a substantially vertical path to move said unit out of said basin to a selected vertical position over said basin, said means for providing first movement comprising a platform having at least one track extending perpendicular to said substantially vertical path and toward said service area; and
- means for providing second movement of the compound movement to guide said aeration unit in a substantially horizontal path in said selected vertical position away from said basin to a second position over said service area, said means for providing second movement comprising a track follower secured to said aeration unit for riding on said track to allow said aeration unit to move in said selected vertical position away from said basin to said second position over said service area.
- 7. Apparatus for moving an aeration unit in a compound movement path, said unit normally being in a horizontal position in a basin of a treatment facility having a service area adjacent to said basin, said unit being removable from said basin for servicing, said apparatus comprising:
- means for providing first movement of the compound movement of said aeration unit in a substantially vertical path to move said unit out of said basin to a selected vertical position over said basin, said means for providing first movement comprising a platform and a plurality of winches provided with cables connected to said platform for lifting said platform to said vertical position out of said basin; and
- means for providing second movement of the compound movement to guide said aeration unit in a substantially horizontal path in said selected vertical position away from said basin to a second position over said service area, said means for providing second movement comprising first and second drawer members cooperative for movement relative each other, one of said drawer members being secured to said platform and a second one of said drawer members being secured to said aeration unit to permit said aeration unit to move relative to said platform in said second movement of the compound movement toward said service area.
- 8. Apparatus for moving an aeration unit in a compound movement path, said unit normally being in a horizontal position in a basin of a treatment facility having a service area adjacent to said basin, said unit being removable from said basin for servicing, said apparatus comprising:
- means for providing first movement of the compound movement of said aeration unit in a substantially vertical path to move said unit out of said basin to a selected vertical position over said basin, said means for providing first movement comprising a platform having at least one cylindrical member extending horizontally toward said service area; and
- means for providing second movement of the compound movement to guide said aeration unit in a substantially horizontal path in said selected vertical position away from said basin to a second position over said service area, said means for providing second movement comprising a rider having a cylindrical surface riding on said cylindrical member, said rider being connected to said aeration unit to guide said aeration unit in said substantially horizontal path in said selected vertical position away from said basin to said second position over said service area.
- 9. Apparatus for moving an aeration unit relative to a basin of a liquid processing facility, said facility having a service area spaced horizontally from said basin, said unit having an aeration position inside said basin for distributing gas into said basin, said apparatus comprising:
- a platform for moving said aeration unit in a substantially vertical path into and out of said basin relative to said aeration position, said moving of said aeration unit out of said basin being to a predetermined vertical position over said basin and spaced from said service area; and
- at least one guide mounted on said platform for keeping said aeration unit in said predetermined vertical position and permitting said aeration unit to move horizontally away from said basin toward a second position over said service area.
- 10. Apparatus according to claim a further comprising:
- said platform having a pair of said guides, said guides being spaced apart horizontally and each said guide extending horizontally from said vertical position over said basin toward said service area;
- said aeration unit extending across and engaging said guides for said movement horizontally away from said basin toward said second position over said service area.
- 11. Apparatus according to claim 9, further comprising:
- said platform having a plurality of said guides in the form of parallel channels, one said channel having a first open slot facing a second open slot of another of said channels, said channels extending horizontally from said vertical position over said basin toward said service area;
- said aeration unit having a drawer extending between said channels and into said first and second open slots, said slots supporting said aeration unit for said movement horizontally and relative to basin toward and said second position over said service area.
- 12. Apparatus according to claim 9, further comprising:
- said platform being provided with said at least one guide in the form of an elongated hollow arcuate member having an arcuate length exceeding one hundred eighty degrees and an axial length extending horizontally from said vertical position over said basin toward said service area; and
- said aeration unit being received in said arcuate member for said movement horizontally and relative to said basin toward said second position over said service area.
- 13. Apparatus according to claim 12, further comprising:
- said hollow arcuate member having an open top defining a slot extending horizontally across said basin toward said second position over said service area; and
- said aeration unit having at least one gas discharge outlet extending through said slot;
- said slot permitting said aeration unit to move horizontally and relative to said basin toward said second position over said service area without said discharge outlet interfering with said arcuate member.
- 14. Apparatus for moving an aeration unit that distributes gas into a basin of a waste treatment facility, said facility having a service area spaced horizontally from said basin, said apparatus comprising:
- a platform for moving said aeration unit in a substantially vertical path into and out of said basin, said moving out of said basin being to a first vertical position over said basin and spaced from said service area; and
- at least one guide mounted on said platform for holding said aeration unit in said first vertical position and guiding said aeration unit away from said basin to a second position over said service area.
- 15. Apparatus for moving an aeration unit in a compound movement path, said unit having gas conduits normally positioned horizontally in a basin of a treatment facility having a service area adjacent to said basin, said unit being removable from said basin for servicing, said apparatus comprising:
- platform means for providing a first movement in the compound movement path of said gas conduits, said first movement being in a substantially vertical path to move said conduits out of said basin to a first position at a vertical location over said basin; and
- means for providing a second movement in the compound movement path to guide said conduits in a substantially horizontal path along said vertical location away from said basin to a second position at a horizontal location over said service area.
- 16. Apparatus for moving separate sections of an aeration unit in separate compound movement paths, each said section having at least one gas conduit normally in a level position in a basin of a treatment facility having a service area adjacent to said basin, via one of said separate compound movement paths each said section being removable from said basin for servicing, said apparatus comprising:
- a platform carrying all of said sections for first movement in a respective vertical movement path, each said first movement being in a substantially separate one of said vertical movement paths to move said conduits of said sections out of said basin to a first position at a vertical location over said basin; and
- guides for each said section for separately providing to each said section a second movement in a respective horizontal path along said vertical location substantially away from said basin to a second position at a horizontal location over said service area.
- 17. Apparatus according to claim 16, further comprising:
- said guides for each of said separate aeration sections being a first pair of slotted beams secured to said platform and a drawer member received in said slotted beams for sliding movement relative to said slots, each of said drawer members carrying at least one of said aeration sections, said slotted beams being aligned with said horizontal path so that said drawer member is guided along said vertical location to move said at least one respective aeration section substantially away from said basin to said second position at said horizontal location over said service area.
- 18. Apparatus according to claim 16, further comprising:
- said guides for each of said separate aeration sections being an elongated pipe mounted to said platform and at least one inverted U-shaped member positioned over and contacting said pipe for sliding movement relative to said pipe, each of said inverted U-shaped members carrying at least one of said aeration sections, said pipes being aligned with said horizontal path so that said inverted U-shaped members are guided along said vertical location to move said at least one respective aeration section relative to said basin and said second position at said horizontal location over said service area.
- 19. Apparatus for moving separate sections of an aeration unit in separate compound movement paths, each said section having at least one gas conduit normally in a level position in a basin of a treatment facility having a service area adjacent to said basin, via one of said separate compound movement paths each said section being removable from said basin for servicing, said apparatus comprising:
- a platform carrying all of said sections for first movement in a respective vertical movement path, each said first movement of one of said sections being in a substantially separate one of said vertical movement paths to move said conduits of said one section out of said basin to a first position at a vertical location over said basin;
- at least one guide on said platform for each said section for separately defining for each said section a second movement in a respective horizontal path along said vertical location; and
- a follower connected to each of said sections and riding on a respective one of said guides to support said respective section for said second movement substantially away from said basin to a second position at a horizontal location over said service area.
- 20. Apparatus according to claim 19, further comprising:
- each said aeration section comprising a U-shaped conduit having two legs positioned horizontally, each said leg having an outside surface;
- each said guide comprising at least one hollow member for receiving each said leg, each of said hollow members being aligned with said horizontal path along said vertical location; and
- each said follower being said outside surface of said leg received in said respective hollow member.
- 21. Apparatus according to claim 19, further comprising:
- each said aeration section comprising a support carrying a plurality of aeration conduits, said support having an inverted U-shaped member depending therefrom;
- each said guide comprising at least one elongated arcuate beam aligned with said horizontal path along said vertical location; and
- each said follower being said inverted U-shaped member engaging a corresponding one of said elongated arcuate beams.
- 22. Apparatus according to claim 19, further comprising:
- each said aeration section comprising at least one conduit and at least one thin beam carrying said at least one conduit and having opposite follower ends;
- each said guide comprising opposed channels having grooves, each of said grooves of said channels being aligned with said horizontal path along said vertical location; and
- each said followers being one of said follower ends of said at least one thin beam sheet received in said grooves.
- 23. Apparatus for transferring separate sections of an aeration unit along separate compound movement paths, each said section having at least one gas conduit normally in a level gas-discharge position in a basin of a treatment facility having a service area adjacent to said basin, via said separate compound movement paths each said section being movable from said gas-discharge position out of said basin and to said service area to permit servicing of said section, said apparatus comprising:
- a platform mounting all of said sections for first movement in a respective vertical movement path, each said first movement of one of said sections being in a substantially separate one of said vertical movement paths to move said at least one conduit of said one section out of said basin to an intermediate position at a vertical location over said basin;
- at least one guide on said platform for each said section, each said guide defining for each said section a separate second movement in a respective horizontal path along said vertical location; and
- at least one follower connected to each of said sections and riding on a respective one of said guides to support said respective section for said second movement in said respective horizontal path and along said vertical location and from said intermediate position substantially away from said basin to a second position at a horizontal location positioned over said service area.
- 24. Apparatus for positioning separate sections of an aeration unit along separate compound movement paths, each said section having at least one pipe normally in a level gas-discharge position in a basin of a waste treatment facility having a service area adjacent to said basin, via one of said separate compound movement paths each said section being separately movable from said respective gas-discharge position out of said basin and over said service area to permit servicing of said section, said apparatus comprising:
- a platform mounting all of said sections for first movement in a respective vertical movement path, each said first movement of one of said sections being in a substantially separate one of said vertical movement paths to position said at least one pipe of said one section out of said basin to an intermediate position at a vertical location over said basin;
- a plurality of guides on said platform, one of said guides being for each said section to define for each said section a separate second movement in a respective horizontal path along said vertical location; and
- at least one follower connected to each of said sections and directed by a respective one of said guides to guide said respective section for said second movement in said respective horizontal path and along said vertical location from said intermediate position;
- said horizontal path extending in a direction away from said basin toward a second position at a horizontal location positioned over said service area.
- 25. In an apparatus for moving first and second ends of an aeration unit generally at the same time by applying an external force in a given direction only to one of said ends, wherein said aeration unit is provided with a gas supply system, a drive for applying the external force to said first end of said unit to move said first end, and a device responsive to said movement of said first end of said unit to place the unit in compression and transfer some of the external force to said second end of said unit to move said second end as said first end moves; the improvement in said apparatus comprising:
- means for mounting said gas supply system on said device for movement relative to said device independently of the movement of said first and second ends of said aeration unit.
- 26. Apparatus according to claim 25, wherein said aeration unit is provided for a waste treatment basin having a service side, and wherein said device moves said first and second ends out of said basin for servicing, and wherein said first end is adjacent to the service side, and wherein said gas supply system is provided with a near side normally adjacent to said first end and with a far side normally adjacent to said second end, said means for mounting further comprising:
- a drawer secured to said gas supply system; and
- a guide mounted on said device for guiding movement of said drawer and of said gas supply system relative to said device and across said service side to permit said far side to move adjacent to said first end for servicing said gas supply system.
- 27. Apparatus according to claim 25, wherein said aeration unit has at least one gas supply pipe and is provided for a waste treatment basin having a service side, and wherein said device moves said first and second ends and said gas supply system out of said basin for servicing, and wherein said first end is adjacent to the service side, and wherein said gas supply system is provided with a near side normally adjacent to said first end and to said service side and with a far side normally adjacent to said second end, said means for mounting further comprising:
- said device further comprising at least one beam adjacent to said service side, and
- a pipe support secured to said at least one beam, said pipe support having a guide surface slidably engaging said at least one gas supply pipe to guide movement of said at least one gas supply pipe relative to said device and permit said far side of said gas supply system to move adjacent to said first end for servicing said gas supply system.
- 28. Apparatus according to claim 25, wherein said aeration unit is provided in a waste treatment basin having a service side, and wherein said drive applies the external force in the given direction only to one of said ends and said device moves said aeration unit out of said waste treatment basin, and wherein said drive also applies the external force in a direction opposite to the given direction only to the one of said ends and said device moves said aeration unit into said waste treatment basin whereupon said gas supply system is subject to buoyant forces, and wherein said gas supply system is provided with a near side normally adjacent to said first end and with a far side normally adjacent to said second end, said means for mounting further comprising:
- a drawer secured to said gas supply system; and
- means mounted on said device for guiding movement of said drawer and said gas supply system relative to said device to permit said far side to move adjacent to said first end for servicing said gas supply system, said guiding means being effective when said aeration unit is in said waste treatment basin for holding said drawer and said gas supply system in said basin against the buoyant forces.
- 29. Apparatus according to claim 25, wherein said gas supply system is provided with spaced ends and is normally operable to discharge gas into a waste treatment basin having liquid therein, said mounting means further comprising:
- means for adjustably spacing said spaced ends of said gas supply system relative to said device to level said spaced ends in said basin.
- 30. Apparatus according to claim 25, wherein said gas supply system is provided with spaced ends and is normally operable to discharge gas into a waste treatment basin having liquid therein, said mounting means further comprising:
- said mounting means mounts said gas supply system for movement toward said first end to provide access to said gas supply system from adjacent to said first end.
- 31. In an apparatus for lifting or lowering first, second, third and fourth corners of an aeration unit generally at the same time by applying external force in a given vertical direction only to two of said corners; wherein said apparatus includes a plurality of compression members, a first of said compression members having a first end at a first of said corners and extending to a third of said corners, a second of said compression members having a second end at a second of said corners and extending to a fourth of said corners; a first drive for applying a first external force to said first corner to move said first end of said first member; a first device responsive to said movement of said first end to place said first member in compression and transfer some of the first external force to said third corner to move said third corner as said first end moves; a second drive for applying a second external force to said second corner to move said second end of said second member; and a second device responsive to said movement of said second end to place said second member in compression and transfer some of the second external force to said fourth corner to move said fourth corner as said second end moves, the improvement in said apparatus comprising:
- means extending between said first and third corners, and between said second and fourth corners, for supporting said aeration unit; and
- means carried by said supporting means for permitting said aeration unit to move away from said third corner and said fourth corner and to pass said first corner and said second corner.
- 32. Apparatus according to claim 31, wherein said device includes at least one beam adjacent to said service side, and wherein said gas supply system includes at least one gas supply pipe, further comprising:
- said drawer being secured to said at least one gas supply pipe; and
- said guide being mounted on said at least one beam and comprising spaced supports extending perpendicular to said service side.
- 33. In an apparatus for lifting or lowering an aeration unit provided with an elongated structure having two opposite, first and second ends and opposite sides; the lifting or lowering being relative to a basin of a liquid treatment facility; said aeration unit having a series of gas discharge outlets extending from said first end to said second end, and at least one conduit for supplying gas to said gas discharge outlets; wherein said apparatus is provided with first and second clips, said first clip being at a fixed location relative to said basin on one of said sides of said member; said second clip being at a fixed location relative to said basin on the other of said sides of said member; a guide at each of said first and second ends of said member; a force applicator for moving said first end of said member relative to said basin in a first direction; and an elongated flexible force transfer strand connected to each of said first and second clips and extending over said guides so that as said applicator moves said first end relative to said basin of said liquid treatment facility, said guide at said first end forces said strand against said guide at said second end to move said second end of said member relative to said basin of said liquid treatment facility in the first direction, the improvement in said apparatus comprising:
- a slide mounted on said elongated structure, said slide having a slide surface permitting said conduit to slide relative to said elongated structure and move said gas discharge outlets from said second end toward said first end.
- 34. In an apparatus for retrieving a water treatment device from a basin having first and second opposite sides to permit servicing said device adjacent to said first side of said basin; said device including a support member having a first end adjacent to said first side of said basin, said support member having a dimension extending across said basin toward said second side to a second end; said basin having a support provided with a top at a height equal to about an upper position to which said device may be moved relative to said basin; said first side having a bottom at a depth equal to about a lower position to which said device may be moved relative to said basin; wherein said apparatus is provided with a flexible tension member having a total length equal to the value of the dimension of said support member plus the value of the depth of said basin from said top to said bottom of said basin, said total length being between a first terminus of said tension member and a second terminus of said tension member; a first catch at said bottom secured to said first terminus of said tension member; a second catch at said top secured to said second terminus of said tension member; a first guide at said first end of said support member; a second guide at said second end of said support member; said tension member extending from said first terminus secured to said first catch along a first distance around said first guide, then from said first guide to said second guide, and then around said second guide along a second distance to said second terminus secured to said second catch; said first distance being less than said second distance when said support member is adjacent to said bottom; and a drive for moving said first end of said support member away from said first catch to increase the first distance and decrease the second distance and thereby render said tension member effective to move said second end of said support member toward said second catch as said first end of said support member moves away from said first catch, the improvement in said apparatus comprising:
- said water treatment device comprising a gas conduit for discharging gas into said basin;
- said support member comprising a guideway extending parallel to said dimension and a follower received in said guideway for movement parallel to said dimension; and
- said water treatment device being mounted on said follower for movement relative to said support member and said basin.
- 35. Apparatus according to claim 34, further comprising:
- said guideway further comprising an arcuate surface; and
- said gas conduit further comprising an outer surface engaging said arcuate surface to define said follower.
- 36. In a force transfer apparatus for moving opposite first and second ends of a liquid treatment unit to a top of a liquid treatment basin at the same time in response to an downward external force applied to only said first end of said unit, said basin having a second fixed point in said basin above said second end of said unit and a first fixed point in said basin below said first end of said unit; said liquid treatment unit including an aeration system for supplying gas to said liquid treatment basin, said aeration system including at least one pipe, wherein said apparatus includes a drive for applying the downward external force to said first end of said unit to move said first end into said basin; a first guide mounted on said first end for movement with said first end; a second guide mounted on said second end for movement with said second end; and a first tension member secured to and extending from said first fixed point and around said first guide and along said unit to said second end of said unit and around said second guide and into said basin to and secured to said second fixed point, the improvement in said apparatus comprising:
- said aeration system comprising a third guide for supporting said at least one pipe for movement to and from said second end and respectively from and to said first end.
- 37. Apparatus according to claim 36, wherein when said drive applies the downward external force said at least one pipe moves into said liquid treatment basin whereupon said aeration system is subject to buoyant forces, said apparatus further comprising:
- said third guide extending around at least a portion of said at least one pipe to hold said at least one pipe against the buoyant forces when said at least one pipe is in said basin.
- 38. Apparatus for providing compound movement to an aeration unit that distributes gas into a basin of a treatment facility having a work area adjacent to said basin, said apparatus comprising:
- a platform having a guideway connected to said aeration unit to permit relative movement between said platform and said aeration unit in a service path, said service path extending in a given direction, said platform having opposite first and second ends;
- a force applicator connected to said platform to apply a first force only to said first end of said platform, said first force being in a first direction perpendicular to said given direction; and
- a vector force transfer device for transferring said first force from said only first end to said second end of said platform so that both said first and second ends lift said aeration unit in a lift path having the direction of the first force to move said aeration unit out of said basin to a predetermined vertical position over said basin in preparation for said relative movement between said platform and said aeration unit in said service path to move said aeration unit from said vertical position toward said work area.
- 39. Apparatus for moving an aeration unit relative to a basin of a liquid processing facility, said facility having a service area spaced horizontally from said basin, said unit having an aeration position inside said basin for distributing gas into said basin, said apparatus comprising:
- a platform carrying said aeration unit, said platform having a first end near said service area and a second end remote from said service area;
- a vector force transfer device for applying a substantially vertical force to said first end and transferring vector components of said force to said second end to move said platform into and out of said basin relative to said aeration position, said moving of said aeration unit out of said basin being to a predetermined vertical position over said basin and spaced from said service area; and
- at least one guide mounted on said platform for holding said aeration unit in said predetermined vertical position and permitting said aeration unit to move horizontally away from said basin and away from said remote second end toward a second position over said service area.
