Claims
- 1. A hose assembly for a pneumatically powered surgical instrument, the hose assembly comprising:
a first conduit having an inner wall portion concentrically arranged with an outer wall portion, the inner and outer wall portions being of dissimilar materials, the first conduit at least partially defining a fluid path for the transmission of a source of exhaust gases.
- 2. The hose assembly for a pneumatically powered instrument of claim 1, further comprising a second conduit arranged within the first conduit, the second conduit at least partially defining a fluid path for the transmission of a fluid from a source of pressurized fluid.
- 3. The hose assembly for a pneumatically powered instrument of claim 2, wherein the second conduit is concentrically disposed within the first conduit.
- 4. The hose assembly for a pneumatically powered instrument of claim 1, wherein the inner wall portion is less flexible than the outer wall portion.
- 5. The hose assembly for a pneumatically powered instrument of claim 1, wherein the inner wall portion has an inner diameter that is irregular.
- 6. The hose assembly for a pneumatically powered instrument of claim 1, wherein the inner wall portion comprises a corrugated tube having a plurality of radially extending ribs.
- 7. The hose assembly for a pneumatically powered instrument of claim 6, wherein the corrugated tub is constructed of PTFE.
- 8. The hose assembly for a pneumatically powered instrument of claim 1, wherein the inner wall portion is constructed of PTFE and the outer wall portion is constructed of silicone.
- 9. The hose assembly of claim 2, wherein the first conduit has a length and the second conduit is concentrically disposed within said first conduit over a substantial portion of said length.
- 10. The hose assembly of claim 1, wherein said first conduit has a proximal portion adapted for placement adjacent a powered surgical instrument, an opposite distal portion and a length between said proximal portion and said distal portion; wherein said outer wall portion and said inner wall portion extend substantially along the entire length.
- 11. The hose assembly of claim 1, wherein said first conduit has a proximal portion adapted for placement adjacent a powered surgical instrument, an opposite distal portion and a length between said proximal portion and said distal portion; wherein said inner wall portion extends along only a portion of the length.
- 12. A hose assembly for a pneumatically powered surgical instrument, the hose assembly comprising:
a hose assembly having a first conduit and a second conduit, the first conduit defining a fluid path between a motor of the surgical instrument and an exhaust opening, the second conduit arranged within the first conduit and at least partially defining a fluid path for transmitting a pressurized fluid to the motor, wherein the first conduit includes a proximal portion configured for placement adjacent the motor and an opposing distal portion adjacent the exhaust opening, the proximal portion having a first internal diameter and the distal portion having a second internal diameter, said second internal diameter larger than said first internal diameter.
- 13. The hose assembly of claim 12, wherein said first conduit further includes a transition portion between said proximal portion and said distal portion, said transition portion having a tapering internal diameter extending between said first internal diameter and said second internal diameter.
- 14. The hose assembly of claim 12, wherein said first conduit defines an outer diameter, said outer diameter substantially constant between said proximal portion and said distal portion.
- 15. A pneumatically powered instrument comprising:
a motor powered by a source of pressurized fluid to drive a working element; an exhaust opening; and a hose assembly having a first conduit and a second conduit, the first conduit including inner and outer wall portions of dissimilar materials and at least partially defining a fluid path between the motor and the exhaust opening for transmitting a source of exhaust gases from the motor to the exhaust opening, the second conduit disposed within the first conduit and at least partially defining a fluid path for transmitting fluid from the source of pressurized fluid to the motor.
- 16. The pneumatically powered instrument of claim 15, wherein the second conduit is concentrically disposed within the first conduit.
- 17. The pneumatically powered instrument of claim 15, wherein the inner wall portion is less flexible than the outer wall portion.
- 18. The pneumatically powered instrument of claim 15, wherein the inner wall portion has an inner diameter that is irregular.
- 19. The pneumatically powered instrument of claim 15, wherein the inner wall portion comprises a corrugated tube having a plurality of radially extending ribs.
- 20. The pneumatically powered instrument of claim 15, wherein the inner wall portion is constructed of PTFE and the outer wall portion is constructed of silicone.
