Claims
- 1. In an apparatus for the continuous filtration of liquids, said apparatus having a central receiving area and an upstanding outer area of substantial height;
- means for introducing a liquid to be filtered into said central receiving area,
- an upstanding liquid-permeable wall having a microfilter arranged between said central area and said outer area to allow the liquid to pass through said microfilter from said central receiving area to said outer area,
- particulate filter-media particles arranged in said outer area adapted to receive liquid passing through said microfilter, said particles forming an upstanding filter bed,
- means for collecting said filter particles at the bottom of said filter bed,
- means for introducing during said collection a liquid into said filter particles at the bottom of said filter bed to produce a vortex action on the particles,
- means for transporting the particles inwardly through said central receiving area to the upper portion of said outer area for recirculation downwardly through said outer area, and
- means for applying a liquid to said microfilter during the filtration to cause a removal of the relatively heavy and flocculated impurity particles deposited on said microfilter in a manner to cause the removing liquid to carry said impurity particles to the bottom of said filter bed.
- 2. In an apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said means for applying liquid to said microfilter includes means for applying said liquid over substantially the entire inner filtering face of said microfilter in manner to cause a removal of the deposited particles.
- 3. In an apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said means for applying said liquid to said microfilter includes means for creating a spray.
- 4. In an apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said collecting means includes a conically shaped part and said transporting means includes a pump, said pump adapted to create said vortex as a pulsating bed by introduction of the liquid into said conical shaped part.
- 5. In an apparatus according to claim 4 wherein sid pump takes the form of a mammoth pump.
- 6. In an apparatus according 4, wherein said conically-shaped part has a sloped surface of at least 60 degrees when measured from a vertical plane passing through said central area.
- 7. In an apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said transporting means includes a compressed air lifting device.
- 8. In an apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said means in producing said vortex
- includes means for receiving a supply of water used for said removal of the impurity particles and for said transporting of the filter particles.
- 9. In an apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said microfilter comprises a filter having a mesh of 10 to 200 microns.
- 10. Apparatus for the continuous filtration of fluids comprising,
- an upstanding annular container having inner and outer annular spaced apart walls for receiving therebetween particulate filter particles, said the inner and outer walls characterized as being fluid-permeable,
- casing means closed at its upper and lower ends exteriorly surrounding said container, whereby at the upper end an exit for the clean fluid is provided and in which there is formed at the lower end of the container in the area of said spaced apart walls a conical-shaped withdrawal means made of inner and outer conical walls, said withdrawal means opening downwardly to create an outlet for filtered material,
- compressed-air suction lifting means including an outlet tube and arranged to project with its lower suction end into the lower part of said withdrawal means,
- ring means arranged between said outlet tube of said lifting means and said inner wall of said container,
- a plurality of radially spaced second tubes arranged parallel to the axis of said container and extending approximately the entire height of the interior space in the inner region of said container,
- a rotatable star shaped-fixture means affixed at the upper end of said container in said interior space,
- a number of spray nozzles carried by said second tubes throughout approximately their entire height and directed upon the inner surface of said inner wall of said container, and
- means for connecting said second tubes to said star fixture means.
